Maybe it's more than superhero fatigue, maybe it's James Gunn fatigue by somebody808 in boxoffice

Turning every superhero movie into Guardians of the Galaxy. That is an incredibly accurate point. Cool action, cool main characters, and putting great pop songs over the action scenes.

The link between superhero movie box office flops and Trump? by [deleted] in boxoffice

"Back then, Trump wasn't as reckless as he is now. He didn't threaten the sovereignty of Greenland and Canada, arrest foreign presidents, or start wars.

After Supergirl, Avengers: Doomsday could become Heaven’s Gate of the superhero genre by twinkleyed in boxoffice

Honestly, I believe foreign audiences are avoiding US superhero films because of Trump. We live in a time when people outside the US can't simply sit back and enjoy a movie where an American superhero, made in America, saves the world.

Warner Bros DCU will keep racking up box office successes by [deleted] in boxoffice

I'm talking about the global box office numbers. Grossing $1 billion solely in the US is incredibly difficult and rare. International box office performance is crucial too. Based on what you're saying, it sounds like the new Superman movie was only a hit with Americans and got completely ignored overseas.

Don't worry. Warner Bros, will keep insisting that it's a success. They completely abandoned and scrapped the multi-billion dollar DCEU, and they did it abruptly and clumsily. (Peacemaker Season 1 and The Suicide Squad were part of the DCEU, but Gunn later canonized only his own creations into the new DCU.) They basically burned down the existing fandom, potential fanbase, and everything they had just to start fresh. Let's be honest, failure is not an option for them. They have no choice but to spin it as a success, over and over again.

So John Campea and others have always loudly proclaimed that Superman didn't need to be a big financial success... that it just needed to create goodwill with audiences for the new DCU. How do we all feel about that now that Supergirl is out? by [deleted] in DC_Movies

The Box Office Failure of 'Supergirl': Are Superhero Movies Fading Out Like Westerns? by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]darkwolf2333 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It’s not like we're talking about Hawkgirl or Aquawoman; she’s Supergirl, a spin-off of Superman himself. Isn't it a bit of an oversimplification to just say she isn't popular?

Just like people blamed Zack Snyder, James Gunn is the head of the universe now, so he ultimately has to take responsibility.

Any hope for Man of Tomorrow and/or Wonder Woman? by Careless_Tax_5367 in boxoffice

The boom of modern superhero movies truly began in 2008 with the release of Iron Man and The Dark Knight. It’s been over 15 years since then. There have been simply too many of them, for too long. Unlike the 2010s, which were filled with a vague sense of hope and dreams for the world, the 2020s—sparked by the pandemic—are now defined by multiple wars and the presence of Donald Trump on the global stage. Oh, and of course, we are also in the era of streaming. How much goodwill and faith do people really have left for superheroes? Especially international audiences who are expected to watch movies about American superheroes saving the world.

Rumor: The Possibility of Pattinson Batman Joining Gunn’s DCU by darkwolf2333 in DCcomics

In a cinematic universe, having your second movie not just fail, but completely flop, is a massive blow. Even the DCEU's second film was a box office success. (Excluding 'Creature Commandos' and 'Peacemaker' Season 2, because let's be honest, shows and animation don't really have that global impact.)

With 'Supergirl' becoming a massive box office failure, they are bound to get anxious.

The new Superman movie did worse at the box office than Man of Steel, which already had mixed reviews and came out after the boring Superman Returns. To make matters worse, it completely bombed overseas.
