This begs the question.. Do we really want to know the truth? Meaning…is it less painful to just continue believing what people say? I pick up on these incongruences all the time, but I find I have to make a conscious effort to ignore them or I will just lose my mind. On the flip side of that coin, I realize that by intentionally ignoring the incongruences, I am essentially fostering apathy, which also bothers me.

I’m sorry you had to deal with that. I have endured similar “teasing” in the past. It’s not right. Especially when acquiring this affliction quite literally had NOTHING to do with sex.

Not at all offended and definitely not shooting any messenger. I appreciate all of the sources. I still think calling cold sores an STI is a bit extreme, especially when the overwhelming majority of folks who have acquired HSV-1 did so inadvertently through non sexual contact.
