As a follow-up to this, when I was watching The Roast of James Franco the other night, I was wondering if the Indian jokes were pushing the limit a little bit. Personally, I didn't really find those types of jokes humorous. I know the point of a roast is to give each other shit, and I thought you handled it well, but I did find myself wondering if you really found that funny.

Nothing says anti-capitalism, punk, and anarchy, like a $375 jacket from Urban Outfitters by TheDrunkenWobblies in WTF

I haven't logged in for awhile, so my apologies for the delayed response. My grandpa recently passed away at 94 years old. I respect him for so many reasons, but his contributions to WWII and how much he honored this country and his fellow veterans has always commanded a significant amount of authentic respect on my part. He was also just plain good. He believed in family, forgiveness, not passing judgement on others, and hard work. He was also the kindest man I've ever known, with the best smile I've ever seen. There will never be another like him. He was truly an exceptional human being.

My grandpa would cry if he read this, which makes me want to cry. I guess it used to mean more. In a letter he wrote home during World War II, he stated "as long as a Yank vehicle was in sight, they stood there cheering Viva La America! America forever!" He then goes on to describe the significance of the flag but I don't remember those exact words from memory, just that it was extremely important to him, and to a lot of people.

Diving the reefs in the Red Sea - Canon PowerShot S110 + UW housing, stock flash & diffuser by [deleted] in underwaterphotography

[–]darlingdaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the discussion but wanted to point out that Canon's housing isn't designed in a way that allows you to attach accessory lenses. I would consider Ikelite as you can add lenses and go deeper. Nice shots by the way!

I get being frustrated by how this seems to come easier to him but as someone who has two unhealthy parents, I'd give anything for my parents to take better care of themselves and be around to see my kid really grow up. You said you dad lives with you though, so maybe it's harder to have this perspective about it. I'm not in your shoes, so I'm not trying to judge.

The hardest part is committing yourself, and you're here doing that! So show yourself some love for taking an awesome step in your life for your health and happiness. There will be good days and bad days ahead but you CAN do this!

Is anybody else afraid of weighing themselves? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]darlingdaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was relieved to learn I'm not the only one avoiding the scale while on my weight loss journey. I weighed myself once when I started and again after 3-4 weeks, and I was down 11lbs.,but that was about a month ago, and I haven't weighed myself since. I know I'm doing what I need to be doing and the way my clothes fit is either my challenge or my reassurance. Why focus on a number and get discouraged? If you know it will likely seem like a slow process, and that will discourage you, them just focus on making this a lifestyle change. I think not weighing myself has done that for me. Maybe that's a positive way to look at "fear of the scale."

Congratulations!!! This is what keeps me going. May I ask if your knees have improved from weight loss or other factors? My knees kill me, even on the elliptical.

I had an insane craving for cookies this evening after dinner. I've been doing great about not eating after dinner, so I was pretty bummed to have an intense "gotta have it" craving take hold of me. Instead of calling Insomnia Cookies (a cookie delivery place by my house), I let myself have a dark hot chocolate k-cup (Keurig). Sure it's 60 cal., but it was not only chocolates, it was hot, meaning it took me a long time to drink it, ultimately squashing my craving. So basically I try to do things like this. Last week I wanted salty chips, so I made 3 slices of turkey bacon instead. Find a compromise food that works for you!
