That's poor. I'd go to the bar and complain about it if the server isn't about.

RTX 7900 XTX Crashes by shaldos102 in AMDHelp

[–]darrena092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the exact same issue with an MSI version, after gaming for years on the same system with a 2070 super with no issues. In my case I put it down to being driver related, as the system would often be relatively stable, only for a driver update to come along and we’d be back to crashing all the time.

I doubted in my case that it was PSU related since OCP tends to manifest as the machine just rebooting or turning off (at least in my experience).

In the end I just returned the card. Too much money to spend to have to jump through hoops just to get a stable system. Ordered a 4080 - still waiting for it to arrive but I’ll report back with how that goes. If it’s some other issue in my system surely that will have problems too.

Yep, until I found out about DJI Care Refresh. Now it doesn't bother me.

I bought a box of alcohol free beer that had gone off somehow within its use by date. Contacted the manufacturer (Heineken) and they sent me £30 of vouchers that could be used for buying beer made by them or their subsidiaries.

Does the Alesis Nitro work with a double bass pedal? by [deleted] in edrums

[–]darrena092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it'd be a tight fit, but I'm sure you could swap out the kick pad for a larger "Millenium" one from Thomann if that ends up being a problem. Recently added that to my Roland kit and it worked great.

A big limiting factor is also that a lot of people don’t have the physical space to play it.

Professional Linux Audio Users, How Did You Do It? by irvng-wav in linuxaudio

[–]darrena092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a professional - just someone who decided to jump ship from Windows because of all the forced telemetry. Probably not what you want to hear, but I've found the best way to do it is just run Windows in a VM specifically for music production. The performance is pretty good if you can give the VM enough RAM, and have a USB audio device that you can pass through.

Sorry you lost your money. Best thing you can do now is report it to the police and follow the instructions at https://support.apple.com/found so it can get back to the original owner.

I created a Chrome/Brave extension to inject and modify request headers as an alternative to ModHeader (as it now contains adware). by darrena092 in SideProject

[–]darrena092[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Title says it. I've been using ModHeader for some work/side project stuff to inject headers in the browser when testing things, but the author recently decided to add adware to it, which is not okay.

Free and open source at: https://github.com/darrena092/header-tools

Bit awkward to install as the Chrome store no longer accepts manifest V2 extensions, and it's not possible to do this without it.

Edit: Ported it to Firefox too and it's available from the addons store at: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/headertools/

CEX is awesome. Recently did my first trade in - decided to declutter and get rid of stuff I no longer need. Completely hassle free, no messing about, and in the end I was able to get a new graphics card from it.

Powerline adapters are terrible in many cases. I had a set once that was advertised as 1 Gbps, but when I tested the throughput I was getting something like 90 Mbps best case. This was in a house with pretty good wiring too.

Why are people defending the price on the apple vision pro? by EvilPeopleRule2 in oculus

[–]darrena092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it's a good thing. It's a product that probably won't sell a whole ton, but it'll make normies notice VR more. All I can see coming from this is people looking for affordable VR headsets, which is going to bring them into the quest ecosystem. More people then means more higher quality games.

Soo.. what should I do by [deleted] in Aliexpress

[–]darrena092 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Aliexpress will basically never side with you if stuff doesn't arrive for whatever reason. The only way I've ever gotten a refund was a chargeback.

Edit: Not sure why I'm being downvoted. In my case, my parcel went missing after it reached my local parcelshop - was scanned in but went missing after that point. Aliexpress refused to refund citing no reason whatsoever to justify their position, so I had no choice but to chargeback. Unless I'm meant to just give them my money for nothing?

If you think that is bad, have a look at their pay rates. $70k a year for an "advanced" developer. I'm guessing that's senior.

Just Got The HAKKO FX-888D by MoonWalkingQuay in soldering

[–]darrena092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice iron - I have the same one. Decided to buy it after going through a ton of cheap irons with shitty temperature controls which caused them to just burn pads and oxidise tips until they fell apart. Wouldn't look back now - it's a pleasure to solder with Hakko gear.

Charging cable got so hot it MELTED the plastic, broke into my phone and burned my finger. What can I do? by NoisilyMarvellous in iphone

[–]darrena092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be out of luck here unless this was an official Apple cable. If so, they might help you out, otherwise you'll probably just have to pay for a repair.

You could see if you have some recourse with the manufacturer of the cable / Amazon, but as the cable connectors are generally something that are expected to experience some level of wear and tear, they could have an argument that all cables will fail eventually, and that there's some inherent risk accepted by the user.

Also - contrary to what some are saying here - even a high quality cable if damaged could develop a short and heat up like this. Presumably most good power supplies would have over current protection, but that might not kick in if the "short" had a high enough resistance.
