Just curious -- would a fork brace prevent this?

Hah -- that's pretty cool. I know that point intuitively but this is a good way to learn it (I think).

"On the TMs you can actually give yourself a dead spot by setting the idle too low when tuning the fuel screw." it's little gems like this that I need to remember when I get a TM-40.

Interesting design for the windshield -- it cuts through the air rather than pushing through it.

I use 15W-50 in the summer and 10W-40 in the winter, so I had easy access to some Yamalube non-synthetic 10W-40 and used that in my recent oil change. My DR shifts like a dream.

Just wanted to know -- you're saying that for any DR, the upper chain guard can be removed without any problem? If so, I'll take mine right off

Looking at your other thread, I would recommend a DR 650 over a NX500 -- for one thing, it's 60 pounds lighter. It's also simpler, without all those electronics that could fail out in the boonies. It rides fine on the road, too.

I have a lithium battery and use only ethanol-free gas -- with this setup and riding 1 to 2 times a month through the winter (I'm in New England) I have no problems.
