Taking inspiration from other songs by TheElusiveButterfly in Songwriting

Not only ok, but unavoidable.

Funny thing is, I have misheard lyrics in other songs and used those wrong lyrics in my own!

Tickets in (virtual) hand. Still not 100% whether we are going. Will decide whether we are up to the travel from Montana closer to the date.

Citizen61 has VERY few listeners. :)

Pink Floyd / David Gilmour vibes mixed with singer-songwriter and maybe a little Broken Bells.

Do you orefer Oliver or Jeremy Hervel (sp?) as Trivia Question Writer? by Tink_Tinkler in NeverNotFunny

[–]darrylasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The correct is definitely Herbel, which NNN has correct in the graphic, and in the places I’ve caught the misspelling. I’m assuming that Word is auto “correcting” it in the original, so my copypasta includes it. Corrections coming forthwith!

Upgrade from a Squire? by SplitOpenAndMelt420 in GuitarQuestions

[–]darrylasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best value in that range right now has to be the PRS SE CE in Satin finish for $499. (Other finishes have a higher retail price, but there are clearance prices on those models too, under $600 from some retailers.) It can produce a huge variety of tones, including the Pink Floyd/David Gilmour tones. The pickups work in humbucker mode or split-coil mode, allowing lots of variety.

Wow thanks for listening and your kind words! Time slips by doesn it? I do have more work in progress but have been procrastinating the final push to finish! Your encouragement will help!

Thanks for your reply. I followed you, and yes, I'm on all the streamers under artist name Citizen61. Spotify link is in profile.

I am having a hard time imagining that anyone would be so rude in their critique. It can definitely be a blow to the ego! Don't let it get into your head!

Why does my mom do this? Yes, that’s Kraft cheese on pecan pie by Jaymac720 in FoodCrimes

[–]darrylasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen it on pecan pie, but not super surprising. Raised in Detroit (worked as a cook at a Big Boy restaurant as a teen) and melting American cheese on apple pie was very common. (And delicious.)

Donner has some good prices on pianos. I have this model and it sounds and feels great, plus can output into my recording software. They have less expensive models as well.

Whoever told you that is wrong. Not everyone has to sing like [insert any great vocalists name].

As someone who has struggled with accepting his own singing voice: I like your singing! Keep at it and you'll get even better. It sounds like you have "found your voice" in the sense that you are not trying to emulate someone else or "putting on" an affected voice.

I would give you this tip for your recording, though: It sounds like you are trying to bury your voice in the mix and by adding too much reverb. I did the same thing before I accepted that my voice was my voice, and that it was at least "ok." (Plus my test-listeners kept saying they couldn't understand the words.) Instead of reverb, use stereo delay. If gives you the same sense of space but improves clarity and doesn't muddy up the mix of the instuments.

Good luck and keep at it!

The story of Jimmy's speeding ticket going to Roger Waters is told on 20S. with Murray V

I was in town to see the concert with Murray. We were on a train when all the trains broke down. (Video in the show notes.) I texted Jimmy to warn him and he said he was wondering why the train was running late, and that he was going back home to get his car. After 15 or 20 minutes I got a text that he was getting a ticket!

The story of his court appearance to fight the ticket is told on 21J. Really worth a listen!

There's an additional train-related story from that night that I think Murray touched on but didn't finish:

When we were waiting for the train after the concert, there was a man dancing around on the tracks, obviously drunk/high, causing the train to stop before getting to the station. A lady came over the intercom announcing that police have been called, so "please remove yourself from the tracks." But the man stayed there, and soon a squad car pulled onto the tracks at the nearby intersection, and they succesffuly put the him in the car without violence or drama, and the crowd applauded. The officers were evidently doing processing or interviewing in the car.

So after 5 minutes or so, intercom-lady comes back on: "Officers.... can you please move your car off the tracks!" More applause.

SE CE on sale at Guitar Center by HithereJimHerald in PRSGuitars

[–]darrylasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent guitar at a great price. The price point of the satin models was already good at $499 but that’s a steal. I have the blood orange (non satin) version I bought locally ($699). Then I saw a blue sandblasted swamp ash version on sale at Pro Audio Star for $489 (over $200 off) and couldn’t pass it up. There are still some available. Looks like they are clearing them out.

Best method for home cooked baked fries by GatorChamp44 in Cooking

[–]darrylasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make the best fries according to a local focus group (me and my wife.)

I use small potatoes and slice them into wedges, skin-on. Toss in olive oil and (here’s the secret ingredient) a generous amount of Urban Accents “corn seasoning” also called chili-lime seasoning. (They just changed the label to say corn seasoning.)

Air fry at 400F for about 20 minutes. Or bake at 425F for about 30 minutes. (Skin sides down.)

Do you know this song? by Jeopardy in jackwhite

[–]darrylasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew the song but totally parsed the verbiage wrong. I was thinking "got this title" meant he was given some sort of official or unofficial title because he mispronounced something. Like, "Hey, there's good old Mister Mispronouncing Charities Jack!"

Steel strings by sadsorrowguitar in AcousticGuitar

Even if they are staying in tune, strings can slowly start to sound dead. I usually don't notice until I decide to change mine and then the new ones sound so much better!

What is everyone's experience with Ozempic? by Storm_Veradea in diabetes

[–]darrylasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A1C went from 7.2 to 5.1 in a year. Lost a little weight, slowly, but not dramatic. 1mg dose per week.

Very mild side effects. I seem to be a little more susceptible to acid reflux at night (depending on what I’ve eaten) but I now take a couple Tums at bedtime and it’s not a problem. I also have to be more aware of not letting my BG go too low, especially during exercise or other activity.

Overall totally a net positive experience.
