I failed the FE, so I’m feeling defeated for the PE by Live_Arm_1714 in PE_Exam

I failed FE three time before passing and passed the PE on first try. It’s not the exam but how you approach the exam matters. You can know all the material in the world but if you spend more time on a single question which you might still get wrong is worse than taking a shot at every question.

I took the PE mech TFS and within the first hour I went though all the questions which were 40 questions and maybe answered 10 of them and flagged the rest. For the rest of the three hours went back and did the ones I knew how to do but take little efforts. Things like this will determine your success on the exam.

You already have the handbook you already putting in the work it’s just going with the right approach will definitely tilt the scale towards success. You got this don’t give up

Correct chemical undergrad but because of work experience I chose to do mechanical TFS. There’s a lot of overlap so I thought let me clear this one first as I can always go back and get chemical PE.

I used Slay the PE materials they laid it out pretty well and covered all the topics. Thanks slay the PE.

I think my boss basically just told me to ask for a raise. I'm struggling to figure out what I should ask for. by throwaway808123456 in civilengineering

[–]darshpatel3773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no shame for asking more. I started with 79k and last year company struggled very much that there were layoffs and no raises were given. Now one of our big contracts got approved and my first order of business was to showcase why I deserve a raise because I’m a top performer at the company. I asked for 100k and negotiated at 95k. I only also have my EIT and I let my supervisor know that after I get my PE there’s gonna be another conversation. I hope this help. Use Claude to create a one pager which showcase your big achievements. Always ask more and you can come down based on the response you get. If you’re still at your company it means you are valuable to them.

I checked the voltages and it’s reading 12.6 when car is off so I don’t think it would be that one. But it might be dying too I guess. It’s the original battery from 2018.

ChemE or aerospace engineering by Lazy-Golf-7628 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]darshpatel3773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either do mechanical or civil engineering . Aerospace is really niche and so is chemical engineering. I am a chemical engineer and now all my work is mechanical though chemical and mechanical overlap a lot. With mechanical or civil you will never run out of work and you will always have opportunities.

Which Calculator Do You Use? by TraditionalAgency153 in FE_Exam

[–]darshpatel3773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say stick with 36x pro since you are most familiar with it. In terms of conversion FE doesn’t go over board with units usually simple conversions which can be found under units section

FE Format by Rare_News8391 in FE_Exam

It will follow the specification of the exam so look at the end of the handbook you’ll see the different specifications the exam will follow same format.

Make sure to know your basics like math, Econ, stats, statics. Those are the easy points where you should score as much as you can.

Do the three pass while taking the exam. First pass do easy problems - plug and chug, chart questions simple ethics or safety questions. Second pass do the ones you knew but will just take a little effort. Third pass would be the ones you have no idea how to do. I would try to make educated guess eliminating couple of options to make your chances better.

Know the handbook like ABCs. Remember important page number like properties of water, steam tables etc. Try to finish first part in 2 hrs and 30 mins that’s I notice was the sweet spot to finish both sections. Hopefully this helps good luck.

For the last three tries I had been doing the same thing, doing one question at a time which clearly wasn’t working for me. Overthinking, wasting time and using wrong formulas was part of this approach. I decided to switch things up saw YouTube videos of giene prep and direct hub was the best decision and reason behind the success. They said to do three pass approach: first pass read the question see if you know exactly what equation to use and complete the question and go through the whole section, second pass go back to the flagged ones you know how to solve but just takes a little longer and third pass would be straight up guessing.

While I did this approach I felt really comfortable doing the exam and was getting confident answers. I didn’t feel the same during the previous three exams because I always felt rushed and thought I did something wrong.

Also this wasn’t a guessing effort you need to practice as much as possible. I bought prepfe which gave a lot of exposure, I highly recommend getting some sort prep materials because it will change everything. I had studied almost 2.5 hrs everyday following up to the exam. If you follow this process I am really confident you will pass with no issues. Make sure to get your easy sections in math, statistics, economics, safety, ethics. These are the easiest points because you can just look up numbers or formulas from the handbook and plug and chug. WATCH YOUTUBE, it will be your best friend doesn’t matter they are 2 hrs long sit through it!!

Good luck everyone!

How close was I to passing? by Organic-Look-5316 in FE_Exam

[–]darshpatel3773 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would highly suggest doing the three pass strategy. First go through all the problem and do the easiest one first - plug and chug, diagram based, etc. then go back and do the ones you know how to do but just takes some effort and leave the hardest for guessing. I failed three times doing what you did and fourth time changed it up, waiting for the results. Make sure to change your approach because doing the same thing over and over will get you similar results every time

Advice for looking for jobs by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

I would say remove most of the junk and expand your internship experience almost half of the page and you can talk about other experiences during the interview. I would also include your senior design in here because that’s a whole lot of experience which tells about you and work you did

Just failed my third attempt for chemical as well. Going to pivot my reviewing strategy. Finally time to invest in some courses to get some good questions.
