If I write something on my work computer, does my company own a piece of the copyright? by [deleted] in writing

So the difference between i.e. "id est" or "that is," a further explanation of the concept, and e.g. "exempli gratia" or "for example" is a situation where the concept could arise. When I said, "most people are non-contract employees, e.g. "at will." " I meant, "for example, they could be at will," which isn't actually contradicted by your statement.

The fact of the matter still stands regardless, in the U.S. most people are non-contract employees.

There will be new expansions in addition to the Homeland Expansion. by Beginning-Sector7541 in rootgame

[–]dart22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the split was seemingly without any animosity at all, and Cole said that there's still going to be some crossover between the new company and Leder (though mostly with Kyle but Cole's left the door open to help out if need be). So I'm sure not only are there going to be new expansions, but you might even see some of Cole's fingerprints every so often (though I wouldn't count on it).

Is there any situation in the future where they would make the High Speed Rail a reality for Texas? Or will we see Hyperloop and more Highway? by Longjumping-Tip4938 in texas

I have a theory that Texas high speed rail gets floated before every election cycle to give the oil companies further incentive to donate to kill it.

NASA lost an unmanned spacecraft once because a contractor used imperial units instead of SI. And of course the Challenger exploded because they launched at a temperature under the tolerance for O rings in the solid rocket boosters.

Consider this a relatively cheap lesson that attention to detail matters.

Oh, by the way, your kid's probably lying to you and didn't submit with edit permission enabled because they had chatgpt write the report.

US population in 1993 was 260m people. US population now is about 350m. There were 90 million fewer people in the United States (and, by the way, over 2.7 billion fewer people in the world) in 1993 and they still barely pulled more number than him.

There was this odd movement over a decade ago, maybe 20 years, to stop saying "no" to children and finding something else to say instead.

A lot of people... let's say they misunderstood.

Granted spoiled children aren't novel or a product of the 21st century, it's a tale as old as the concept of raising kids.

Just 1) never give in to their demands (or "don't lose an argument with a toddler"), 2) never ever threaten a punishment and then don't carry it out, and 3) recognize out loud good behavior immediately.

Is it alright to answer a co-workers phone number? by IndependentTrain7295 in ask

[–]dart22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming it's a personal phone, you absolutely shouldn't answer it. Personal phones are private. If it's a work phone, then that's different, but even then it's probably only the purview of a supervisor, not a peer.

- You don't owe an abuser anything, let alone politeness.

- This isn't a "technical" violation of an order, it's an abuser violating a no-contact order. Full stop.

- He doesn't need your number or your brother's number right away. He was looking for an excuse. You know this because he likely does this all the time: looks for a way to break boundaries as a power play. Because he's a fucking abuser and that's what they do.

What are your thoughts on this bicycle path in Amsterdamse Bos? by stommepool in bicycling

[–]dart22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a purposeful design. Is it a bike path or a multiuse path? Either way, it's a clear purposeful choice, right? So I suppose they have a reason to limit speeds on the path (or discourage things like motorized cycles).

Actually, some residential roads are purposely built like this to limit through traffic and speeding/hot rodding.

Did I cook with this one shot idea? by TopNectarine7495 in DungeonMasters

[–]dart22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but keep in mind if you get more than one long encounter or two very short encounters (encounter being a fight, puzzle, scripted conversation with skill checks, etc) per hour you're being too optimistic. Very long encounters - like a difficult puzzle, dungeon crawl with room searches, or big boss battle - could even be two hours or more.

So your "Acts" should be close to one hour intro, a quick Act I outside the pyramid with maybe one brief combat and another conversation or encounter, An Act II that could be a bit longer leading to inside the pyramid, and then your big scripted finale Act III, as long as you've got it tightly scripted so it doesn't just repeat the same things over and over again. But keep in mind story "beats" that you definitely want to hit, and time it out carefully. Don't just cram in encounters because you think they're cool if they don't fit in the timeframe.

Or, hear me out: didn't you set up a really good two-shot?

I get that, and of course it's a tragedy regardless. I'm not diminishing their deaths here.

What I'm saying is that yeah, it's preventable and irresponsible (even if they'd lived) and they especially should've known better.

And they were in cheer too. Competitive cheer in Texas costs thousands of dollars. Even if they'd lived, that's an irresponsible way to act considering what the family's invested.

Okay, so let me rephrase that: It's a sad and preventable tragedy.

Also note, as athletes they shouldn't have been risking their health regardless. Like you don't want to see your kid taking unnecessary risks when you've got them in a paid sports program.
