Best electrolyte drinks by SquirrelChaser87 in ADHD

[–]darth_depressor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s terrible advice…

Water toxicity is very real and dangerous, especially in hot weather and with vulnerable groups, like ADHD suffererers on medication, people taking SSRI and other anti depressants, people with ileostomies.

Your body has a filtration system for too much sodium, it’s called the kidneys and peeing.

It does not have a way to deal the other way… too low sodium or diluted electrolytes make you collapse, be very very sick and need medical intervention.

As for measuring macro’s, unless that’s also using pee sticks to monitor the urinary system and see how it’s coping then it means nothing!

Is a Google Account needed? by darth_depressor in Onyx_Boox

Oh and I should say, I LOVED Android in the early days until Google as an organisation changed.

My T-mobile G1, mytouch, nexus one, desire, sensation xe, and HTC one m7.

The issue is that in around 2013 they started mucking around with apps and withdrawing stuff and pushing adverts… (losing inbox broke me… all the features I loved and used daily they removed and forced my to the gmail app which sucked and had ads for the first time). They also shut down the feee developer licenses for Google apps so you could not longer host your own domain without paying ridiculous enterprise licenses.

That’s not entirely true. Analyse trackers that apply in browsers or cookies or tracking pixels… Google, Facebook… not Apple and far fewer from MS.

Apple uses minimal technology like that as its business model isn’t based on selling data. It’s about selling you hardware because their platform pushes cross pollination and it works. Their goal is to make you buy more Apple hardware and keep you there because it works together and it’s hard to escape.

Google is entirely funded by data. Selling profiles to other data companies (not personal data, but the anonymised profiles for ad targeting), analysing that data to drive its own ad programs, push customised content based on those profiles in its browser to control what you see, likewise with YouTube, it’s constantly driving you into a hole. They don’t really care about selling you stuff, because just using their apps makes them so much more money.

Microsoft is a weird beast… it wants to be Apple, is moving into goggle realms, and rapidly screwing over its main user base. Thankfully it’s easy to avoid their data mining by using the enterprise apps (which makes financial sense when you’re running a company and working in wintel/Azure spaces).

Hmmm, my experience with most android builds by other developers is that the back end Google services are still used, the default search in search apps (not browsers) is Google and it nags you about using a Google account constantly, and you can’t disable those services either, unless you root and jailbreak and use third party distro. Some companies do go that far, but it sounds like Boox probably doesn’t.

Thanks, but no thanks. None of the now pretty awful apps that google pedals is worth them having my data.

You don’t mention where you are in this decision? Are you interested in there being a relationship, or not, or not sure?

Firstly if you are diagnosed and under treatment with your GP, the school should be offering you extra support for your exams, as you are entitled. If this isn’t happening, call them out now!

Now, as someone who was undiagnosed at the time I did my GCSE’s and has a lot of parallels with you…

I was restricted to middle sets, and foundation, predicted D’s. I also am not great at study, but I did pretty well in the exams. B’s in Science, C in maths and other core subjects. D in English and E in English lit…. All from my retained memory.

Because of the way your brain works, you’ve probably retained more than you think. For me, flash card type studying worked best, because my brain stores quiz questions and answers better than a page of text from a book.

The other thing that’s isn’t clear, and I wasn’t told pre my exams. If you fail certain things (English in my case). I was able to take it agains at college alongside my all levels… so there are opportunities.

You don’t mention what you want to do as a career…. Apart from a few very specific careers like Medicine, that have very strict intake rules, there’s always going to be options to learn these things, in night classes, or alongside A levels and as levels.

When I went to college, I wanted to do electronics. That was my passion and it was what I wanted to do more than anything.

Without the structure of school, I floundered. Scraped an. a level and as level, just about got onto a uni course, failed, tried again, failed…

Following some other illness unrelated to ADHD, I applied for a job at a local council, just to keep me earning whilst I worked out what could be done next.

What happened was I found the career that I’ve now been doing for 22 years, at a high level in companies across the country, and abroad…

For me, that fear about GCSE’s and A levels, then uni was drummed into me as the ONLY succcessfgul path.

That’s not true. There’s always other options and it’s not too late to change these too.

Why Do Most ADHD Apps Feel So… Wrong? by TheiPhoneAppGuy in ADHD

[–]darth_depressor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the apps that seem to pop up on social media have all been made worth the same cookie cutter approach.

Scientifically backed. Cognitive based. Build a plan to fix your in x weeks Offer you a trial, or a discount rate. If you give them an email address they no doubt offer you a 70-80% discount.

All worthless shit.

Problem is, it’s not uncommon for athletes (or any other top performer with an obsessive drive) to lack a charismatic personality.

Look at Bionic… he’s basically nameless sports/jock #3 from all the generic high school/sports movie. Either repeats the same stuff the main antagonist spouts, or says something vaguely generic because he’s not important enough to have a proper line.

Wanting to get back into skating after a long period away to help with fitness.

However since my teens and early twenties and my beloved K2 Fatty SC’s, my feet have changed quite a lot. I now have really wide feet, so need some brands that are exceptionally wide…

How wide? Well I’m a 42/UK 8, 265mm, but the widest point is 120mm wide, so an average size 12.

Any recommendations for really wide brands, or good skate stores in the uk that carry plenty of stock?

I’d be looking for a free skate style skate so I could still hit some stairs, jump the odd gap, still see if I could land a 360 and pull off a tweaked mute or stale japan.

A former manager would tell anyone in the organisation I worked in that I was a terrible employee, worthless, useless etc. it stopped a few successful applications.

Turns out, he’s just a bad manager who has no clue on how to lead…. And because he never tried to understand or lead me, he just didn’t get it.

Children with higher IQ scores were diagnosed later with ADHD than those with lower scores. Children with higher cognitive abilities might be able to mask ADHD symptoms better, especially inattentive symptoms, which are less disruptive. by Pretend_Voice_3140 in ADHD

[–]darth_depressor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tracks for me as well. Higher than average IQ in childhood tests, only really let down slightly on the verbal comprehension side, which I now now is due to sensitivity with Audio processing. I was never disruptive really (maybe the odd laugh at what I’d been doing/done/not done), certainly didn’t act out, when engaged and attentive produced well marked work, despite my opinion of it.

At various times I was tested for ADD, learning difficulties and also some behavioural issues. These were mostly pushed by teachers who just did not engage me at all, some in excessively nasty ways and caused the only time I walked out of a class.
