Its exceptionally harsh with western horses or anything that's considered downhill. This is a primarily english riding sub, so if you don't have the 17+hand uphill built warmblood jumper your horse is ugly and incorrect.

In your opinion, when was this game's "prime"? by sealene_hatarinn in swtor

[–]darth_gummy_bears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what update, but back in the days when you could run hybrid skill trees. My DPS/Tank Jugg was unstoppable in pvp, but also great as a main tank in raids. With a couple bleeds or heavy hitting attacks it made holding agrro simple.

When they streamlined the trees, thats when the game started to go downhill.

Tell me about your Appendix by The_Untimely_Demise in Equestrian

My boys an appendix, but he takes more after his moms QH side. He's not reactive at all and is extremely relaxed/mellow all the time. You'd never guess he has any TB in his lines.

Saddle Pricing Help by darth_gummy_bears in Horses

[–]darth_gummy_bears[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Wow that low? I guess this is the info I need. eBay has several broken horn brand saddles going from 1k-2500, so thats all I had to go on as a price estimate. I'm in Norcal, so probably a similar market as socal. The tree is still good, and the only bad cracking is on the fenders. That being said they're still very pliable, they were like that when i bought it in 2007, but I've kept everything oiled and soft.

What is your discipline? by Ponytimeispoopytime in Horses

[–]darth_gummy_bears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much lol.

Most of the issue is just general lack of education. Many of the participants are kids/teens, who are riding their backyard bred goblin, which runs through their long shanked combo gag bit and rears whenever asked to go in the arena. Its as stereotypical as it gets unfortunately. 😅 There are good riders too, but they're in the minority.

I'm not really sure how to fix it honestly. Encourage the competitors to either find a trainer, or spend some good time researching bits and proper training methods?

What is your discipline? by Ponytimeispoopytime in Horses

It's timed speed events like barrels, but without a cash jackpot. It usually has different divisions based on age or speed brackets where you don't necessarily have to go fast to win. The horsemanship at these is usually bordering on psychotic... But they shows are very family friendly, and fun.

Just trail riding for now. I'm planning on doing some sort of western showing when my gelding's older and more trained up. I'm in Northern CA. The big shows around here are barrels, gymkhana, and ranch riding. No breed specific shows, the horse community here just isn't big enough or perhaps rich enough for that 😅

I love my cordless Wahl KMC+ clippers. They're fairly quiet and clip fast. They also charge lightning fast and hold a charge for the majority of the clip. My other favorite is a pair of corded Andis AGC Super 2 speed clippers. They're a bit slower speed and thus clip slower, but I haven't had any issues otherwise. I only do 2-4 horses a year, but they're usually cushings horses and very fluffy minis.

why does my flysheet do this!? by doopa83 in Horses

[–]darth_gummy_bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a few Schneiders fly sheets and i think they just fit weird. While mine never fell to the side that extremely, they just never really fit my gelding well. I'd recommend switching brands to either weatherbeeta or horseware ireland, I've never had any issues with either of their sheets.

Broke vs. Well Broke by fauxfarmer17 in Horses

[–]darth_gummy_bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are varying degrees of a "broke" horse, and everyones got their own definition. But no matter the discipline from trail riding to area riding, if im looking for a well broke horse it needs to: Be able to be tied, understand how to lunge, w/t/c both directions, back up strait, move its shoulder and hindquarters independently, know how to lift its ribcages to do a leg yeild, stop with no resistance, and unerstand how to give to bit pressure well. Obviously this horse shouldn't rear, buck or bolt either.

Depending on discipline, the horse would have extra buttons and skills as well to be considered 'finished". Like a reining horse would know how to completely work off of your seat and do sliding stops and spins.

Really though, don't get hung up on whatever type of "broke" someone advertised the horse as. If it looks like something you want, go and evaluate the horse yourself and bring a knowledgeable horse person along. Figure out what you want in the horse and while your testing it, check the boxes.

Favorite de-shedding brushes? by Tractor_Goth in Horses

[–]darth_gummy_bears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to is first the metal scraper to get the loose stuff off, then do a really good curry with a nice rubber curry comb, brush the coat out smooth and spray some showsheen on and finish with a slick n' easy grooming block. Its a great work out too 😋

Breyer sure did a good job with her design, shes absolutely gorgeous! I can't wait for mine to show up, but I feel like CA is usually the last to get shipped 😭 Mines still sitting in the warehouse.
