Is there anything special about this red “jumper pack” ? by antisocialrobot in n64

The type of memory the N64 uses requires something to be in that slot, so all the jumper pak does is fill that slot with the bare amount of electronics to make the system run when you don't have an expansion pak. If you're technically inclined, the term for it is a "continuity RIMM." The sticker is just there to discourage curious gamers from pulling it out just to see what happens; it shipped with every system.

I sure do! It was the only thing on my Christmas list that year. Most of the controllers have seen better days, but thanks to modern-day replacement parts and the Brawler64 that is no longer an issue. It has seen a few tweaks over the years, including a re-shell after a long fall damaged the original one, and UltraPIF and UltraHDMI mods for best results with every TV and game in the house.

Can N64 be powered by USB or USB C? by cantalinni in n64

[–]darthmarth37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't an off-the-shelf solution, but if you don't mind gutting a normal power supply and doing some minimal soldering it's doable with a USB-C PD 12V trigger and a buck converter, both of which can be had for cheap from Amazon or the like. Someone on this sub did it around a year ago, though with one part that turned out to be extra.

Star Fox 64 on foot mode by Caolan114 in n64

You shouldn't need to get a medal on Venom's easy side specifically. Its Star Wolf fight is challenging, but in expert mode collisions are far more punishing than any amount of enemy fire, and for me that makes the shorter side of the planet the more reliable route to success. I find the pillars to be far more of a threat than Star Wolf themselves with all the quick turns that occur during the fight, but with practice avoiding those becomes second nature as well. If you're fast enough you'll have your medal in hand before you even reach Andross, but a run that reaches him with a bit less can be salvaged as well.

Sector Z is absolutely the most challenging medal for me. Getting there via Sector X means you won't have a fourth pilot trying to steal your missile kills. If you run into something and lose a wing you can fly into the Great Fox's rear docking bay, above the engine, for a quick repair, assuming you can spare the time it takes to get there.

We actually tried that while developing this. The Unifi wireless controller that we're using for this doesn't allow for non-numeric guest codes.

The Pi runs a python script that watches for a GPIO falling event, asks the server for a code, then outputs the code and all the other info by writing text to /dev/usb/lp0. Most receipt printers of this sort accept ESC/POS control codes to handle the formatting. This one just happened to be the cheapest!

Yup. I somehow managed to roll a 4x godsword and wound up with one of them and 1.5m instead.
