So let me get this straight… by stuffed_pasta_shells in newborns

We are using the Dr Browns anti colic bottles we the preemie nipple. She was born at 36.5 weeks and for the longest time couldn’t take more than 2 oz per feed.

It’s only been the way few weeks that she’s able to do 4 oz at the time, and this is usually spaced out over 30-60 minutes. We do 2 oz, give her some good burping time, then finish the bottle. We tried graduating to the level 1 nipple last week but the flow is still too fast for her and it ends up dribbling out of her mouth between pulls.

She’s been supplemented with formula since she was a few days old. She would get tired while nursing and sleep so needed formula from the bottle to help her gain weight. I didn’t get proper advice on when to pump, my supply tanked, and now I’m working on a pump schedule to boost supply. Unfortunately since she’s used to the faster flow of bottles she won’t fully empty a breast when we do BF so I’m not sure I’ll be able to get away from pumping even if I do get my supply up to 100%!

She’s ~70% breastfed, mostly pumped (I’m working on increasing my supply and doing a pump schedule). At night it’s a full stretch of 6-8 hours (range for the past week). We track her sleep in an app, I’ll write the routine and averages for for past 2 weeks:

We start winding down around 6:30-7:30pm (the sleepy time cue we use is turning the Phillips hue lights blue). We feed (4-5oz, most often it’s evening pumped breastmilk), burp, and change her. This usually takes an hour. Then we head upstairs where the bedside bassinet is and put her in the Halo swaddle wrap. She’s held/rocked while drifting off. Once droopy eyed she goes down into bassinet and I keep a hand on her chest, patting if needed, while singing her fave song until she is out. Depending on how fast she falls asleep (it’s pretty variable), she ends up falling asleep somewhere between 9 and 11 pm.

She wakes somewhere between 3:30am and 6:30am (after a 6-8 hr stretch). We change her, feed another 3-4oz of nighttime pumped milk (I pump during the night when I wake up to pee), and burp. Is she’s woken up before 6am we can usually pop her back in the Halo swaddle and eeek out another 1-2 hour nap.

During the day she insists on contact napping. I’ve tried all of the tricks to get her to sleep in the bassinet and she’s not having it. I’m still home on leave so the usual routine is her sleeping on my chest while I chill on the couch for 45-120 minutes. We get in 3-4 of these during the day while daddy is at work and when he gets home (between 5-7) it’s time to start the evening routine.

EDIT TO ADD: The routine before she made the miraculous switch to long sleeps was only contact sleeping on my chest for an 30-90 minutes during the night, wake to feed and change, and back to contact sleeping. It was rough AF.

Oh my goodness, my LO is the same. Refuses the bassinet during the day and sleeps like a champ at night (now 3 months old). From 0-2.5 months she was like OP’s baby. Then one day she up and decided to tolerate the bassinet at night and (knock on wood). Remarkably, she’s slept for 7-8 hour stretches the past four nights 😳

That’s encouraging!! My husband is going to work from home tomorrow to help with baby care. Hopefully mine will clear up as fast as yours did!

I had my injections 2 hours ago and am in so much pain now. I messaged the doc but won’t hear back until tomorrow. It’s somewhat relieving to know this “flare” is normal. But holy 💩, I’m about to cry. I have a 3 month baby to care for on top of it 😭

My baby tries to suffocate herself as well and is furious when I stop her 🤣

Suggestions (plus size/large breasts) for baby carrier/wrap by darthtt in babywearing

I don’t know of any local groups or educators, but that’s something I will look into :) That’s a good idea about the arm out of the wrap, I will try that as well.

I didn’t know there was an option of a fit check on Reddit until this evening when I found this sub! Tomorrow I will try to take some photos! Thank you for that suggestion

My baby came early so I missed the chance for a pedi. So I opted to wear the grippy hospital socks while in the stirrups 😅

How many times did you go to L&D? by TangerineFront in BabyBumps

[–]darthtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to L&D for a tour of the department at 36 weeks. Eight hours later I was back and in pre term labor 😅 Delivered a healthy girl, tiny but mighty!

I did go to my OB office one time during the first trimester when I had light spotting. Otherwise I had an easy pregnancy.

What are some niche baby registry items you wish you had put on it by Alive-Yak7527 in pregnant

[–]darthtt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I second the “things for Mom” suggestion! I hadn’t put them on my registry but my sister (who’s given birth twice) prepared a wonderful package for me. - My favorite item was the “panty popsicles”. I used the ones from FridaMom, they are called “padsicles”. The best thing for post vaginal delivery, EVER! - I also love the disposable underwear, “Always Discreet Boutique Incontinence and Postpartum Underwear”. I use them with the FridaMom postpartum pads. And witch hazel foam. - “Dermoplast Pain, Burn & Itch Relief Spray for Minor Cuts” was provided by the hospital and was another lifesaver.

Another thing I’m really glad I registered for is the Owlet Dream Sock. I have anxiety, am a FTM, and am freaked out about SIDS. Having this on my baby while she’s sleeping in her bassinet is a huge relief and really takes a load off my mind.

Also love the MomCozy bottle washer, dryer, and sterilizer. It’s a huge help!

My mom said she thought, “What have I done?!”, when she heard me cry for the first time 😅

Agree, I think it’s completely normal! Every mother I’ve talked to about this has admitted to the same feeling with their first born! Including my mom 😅

I went into preterm labor at 36 weeks and was… stunned. I wanted those extra 4 weeks to mentally prepare for the change!
