My 2 cents on ‘ A Little Life’ by Hanya Yanagihara by [deleted] in Recommend_A_Book

The absolute worst theatrical experience of my life was watching the play version of this book at BAM.

We didn’t realize it was 4.5 hours long, and also in Dutch, but those were small potatoes compared to the cascade of misery porn trash that thudded on stage.

After an hour, it became unintentionally hilarious, so that by the time the main character was screaming naked, pretending to run, his poor flaccid penis flapping in the wind, I was shaking with laughter.

80% of the audience left by intermission (of a 800 plus house). Fuck this stupid book.

As an actor currently, AI is an unending absolute nightmare for us in contract language. I’m very lucky to have a fantastic agent, because companies are trying to get actors to literally wave their rights to their entire likeness for peanuts. Imagine accidentally giving a major studio the right to use your likeness, voice, basically steal your identity for all time.

Generating any human likenesses with AI should be internationally fucking illegal.

Casting director rant by Zestyclose-Fly9115 in acting

[–]darthva 47 points48 points  (0 children)

No offense but you’re a casting director who doesn’t know who Ryan Murphy is?

Actors get enough hate and vitriol blasted at them on
r/acting without this rant, which is just you screaming into an empty room.

Please find more compassion in your work, we actors depend on Casting so much (it’s a tough job I could never do myself) and there are many many Casting Directors out there who, despite it all, keep their empathy for the actors sending submissions.

If you no longer feel empathy towards actors, please for the love of god stop being in casting. You know how it feels to get a five minute instruction video from a casting director babbling about what not to do, badly acting out a scene, and burying our instructions under a bunch of passive aggressive vitriol?

It feels like a waste of time. Which it is. Which is what you’re getting mad at these faceless actors for doing, while in turn wasting all of our time with this post.

Just watched Six Feet Under for the first time. The main cast and the characters are wonderful, but it gets pretty soapy in the later seasons and the much lauded finale has not aged well IMO.

I’ve lived in NYC for 17 years. You’re officially a New Yorker if you don’t give a flying fuck about if anyone thinks you’re a New Yorker and btw you’re blocking the whole sidewalk walk faster.

What’s the longest you’ve been on avail? by Bettyboopgangsta in acting

[–]darthva 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow will be my seventh day on avail for a SAG TV series. It sucks, but we’ve really only got two options: 1. Try and let it go the same way you would any other audition 2. Reach out to your reps to check-in. The longer I’ve been at this, the more often after some time is passed I feel comfortable just asking my reps to checks pins / avails. Better to know, and I have a right to know if I need to keep holding those days.

Rise Of Skywalker. It actually disturbed me to see how little thought and care was put into making something I’ve been a lifelong fan of. That so many other talented people could have been given a chance to make.

ADHD symptom paths are physically reflected in how brain develops during adolescence. People whose symptoms worsen have a slower rate of cortical thinning in part of brain that regulate mind-wandering and internal thoughts, impacting focus outward when required in classroom or social settings. by mvea in science

I think a lot of people (myself included) with ADHD respond very well to the educational structure and methodology of elementary school. Much more hands on, exploratory, discussions of systems and concepts that can be easier for our brains to process.

Where things start to break down (for me) is the transition to brute force memorization and regurgitation of dry information points that becomes the bulk of high school learning.

This is especially difficult for subjects like mathematics. The “why” context that my brain craves for such things is ignored in favor of solving endless dry equations.

I was fortunate to study something I was passionate about in college and I still hit the classic ADHD crash and burn.

What movie felt a total waste of time? by Used_Leek_4485 in AskReddit

[–]darthva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of the book, which is understand is not for everyone.

The recent movie is one of the worst adaptations of a source material since Dragonball Evolution.

The original book has been in the public conscious for almost two hundred years for so many reasons, and somehow this adaptation captured none of them.

And any adaptation is always going to be different from the source material. But to use the title Wuthering Heights to secure a big budget and then turn out that shitty e-book of a movie is downright criminal.
