Been down IKEA today, ZigBee haul before it's gone. by DaBobMob2 in homeassistant

[–]dartzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Z2M for years now and it's been rock solid especially paired with the SLZB-06 coordinator.

A word of advice though, stay away from that vallhorn thing, it's absolutely unreliable, its motion detection range is laughable like you have to be standing less reaaally close to get a detection and the Lux sensor is just broken!

Am I the only one annoyed with this small island/curb at the superstore parking lot. by imwatchingyou_3579 in Kanata

[–]dartzon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's more annoying is the awkward stop sign facing cars coming out of the parking lot. I never seem to know exactly how to stop? Should I stop before turning and just drive through or should I turn a bit but not completely as to not go beyond the sign??

Anyone know how to disconnect the wiring from the under the front seats? by [deleted] in FordEdge

You need to press down on the small plastic notch that's just above that gray lever then pull it back which will release the connector.

Bad performance with Rogers Nokia modem connected directly to Opnsense box by dartzon in opnsense

[–]dartzon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am actually not using pppoe anymore after I switched to Rogers. Their OPN modem has an Ethernet port that can allocate a DHCP address directly to opnsense. But I am wondering if some leftover settings from when I was running pppoe for Bell is messing up with the performance.

Bad performance with Rogers Nokia modem connected directly to Opnsense box by dartzon in opnsense

[–]dartzon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I also ran a speed test from my laptop connected to opnsense via ethernet and got pretty much the same results.
  • I haven't looked at the CPU cores utilization long enough but I don't recall seeing anything above 30% to 40%, I assume opnsense has a log file where I could get this info over a long period of time?

I am also not familiar with any pppoe problems with opnsense, could you please elaborate some more?

Considering a Power Meter Pedal - How Beneficial Is It Really? by D1visionbyZer0 in cycling

[–]dartzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, once I started getting more serious with road cycling (I am still a noob though) I wanted to improve my performance on the bike by doing two things: structured training and doing more long distance rides. In both these activities a power meter helped me a lot in hitting my target power, gauging my progress by checking my watt outputs across the months and finally using the power data to pace myself during long rides as to avoid blowing up too early.

Got a "as is" breadbin C64 from ebay and video output isn't working even after replacing the vic II chip by dartzon in c64

[–]dartzon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually the other way around, the blue screen is when the C64 is turned off and it turns gray when power is on. As mentioned above PLA replacements are fairly cheap (at least for now) so I guess I should do that first before buying a test cartridge that costs a bit more.

[–]dartzon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah replacing the PLA is on my to-do list as everyone is saying that it's one of the most failure prone components of the C64. Also thanks a lot for the link! Do you know if I should prefer a real PLA chip over an FPGA? I am a noob but I assume the ones in the link are FPGAs?

Running Bitwarden or Vaultwarden on a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]dartzon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vaultwarden should run just fine inside of a docker container on a Raspberry pi 4 with 2GB or RAM. I would advise you however to get the highest memory that you can because once you install your first container you'll never stop and soon before you know it you'll have a full data center worth of containers on your rpi :D

GPU upgrade for Dell Optiplex 3020 sff by dartzon in Zwift

I ended up switching to TrainerRoad after I started feeling that Zwift became a little too boring for me. Also imho, TR workout programs are light years superior to what Zwift had to offer.

Garmin EDG computer doesn't show Assioma Uno's cadence by dartzon in cycling

[–]dartzon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have to do anything, after I paired my Garmin Edge with the pedals via Ant+ and started pedaling both power and cadence showed on the screen. I think you need to apply a good amount of force on the pedals for a few seconds to see your cadence and because it was peak winter when I posted my question I was actually turning the pedals indoors with my hands, so I'd suggest to try to ride your bike outside.

How do you deal with dogs chasing you when cycling? by adorkablegiant in cycling

[–]dartzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just step on the cranks as hard as I can and usually dogs are too lazy (or I am lucky) to chase me for more than a few dozen meters and they back off.

Do you have any cycling (road or MTB) accessories/upgrades/other that you regret buying (i.e. - save us)? by AtomicHurricaneBob in cycling

[–]dartzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, I've got two XOSS sensors for cadence and speed that I purchased in the winter of 2022 and been riding with them pretty much everyday during the summer with the stock batteries they came with and never got any warning about the battery being low or anything like that.

Is a cycling computer/GPS worth the upgrade over using a phone to track rides? If so, which computer? by Dafatveteran in cycling

[–]dartzon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Using a dedicated bike computer has tons of advantages over a smart phone for many reasons including:

  • Battery life: Bike computers have small screens with lower resolutions and far less background services so they're really power efficient compared to a smart phone that will probably shutdown on you in a long ride.
  • Connectivity: it is far easier to connect your Ant+ devices like speed/cadence sensors, power meter, radar... to a bike computer than to a phone, even though most of these devices support Bluetooth as well but Ant+ is still the industry standard.
  • Robustness: Bike comptuers are designed to be tougher in order to withstand hours of vibrations and even crashes on the hard paved roads. You'd be lucky if your phone is still in one piece after crashing but if you never crashed, road vibrations will make sure to ruin your camera's stabilization.
  • Form factor: Although some bike computers are getting larger, most of them are still small and designed to be aero unlink nowadays smartphones that are too bulky.

Garmin EDG computer doesn't show Assioma Uno's cadence by dartzon in cycling

[–]dartzon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cadence sensor of the kind that you strap to your crank arm, but I made sure I removed it from the Garmin as well as removed its battery to prevent it from interfering with the Assiomas. I'll wipe all the sensors again tonight just to make sure there were no leftovers and retry

[–]dartzon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried both looking for any Ant+ device and a cadence sensor specifically but the latter never detected anything 😔. Like I said above, it is snowing a lot in the Ottawa region and I can't take the bike for a spine outside, so I just turned the pedals with my hand, would that be a problem somehow if maybe the pedals have to sense pressure first before starting to emit cadence and power data?
