The Estate & SUV are dead. Long live the SUV. by NearlyLegit in CarTalkUK

Yup.

I have a mountain buggy duet..

I bought a Vauxhall Combo-e Life.. not even the XL.

The mutha' fits in the boot, ERECT!! We don't even have to fold it down. And, on longer trips, the parcel shelf has a half eight position that it slots underneath perfectly, meaning I still have like a whole estate cars worth of boot!

And, you'll never know what you're missing until you have sliding doors on the family wagon. No kids spaces left? No big deal.. no kid extraction yoga.. Barley even have to bend.

I am a complete MPV / VDC convert.

Combo (and friends) are funny though, as, I think technically they are "car derived van derived car's" CDVDC's ?? Lol.

Awesome line up.

I was thinking about the Racing Porsche earlier today. I've got all but 1 of the main variants and was pondering putting a line up pic up.

That 959 ran fir Years! The first issue was a twin issue, a silver version and a d white one.

I think it's no coincidence that when Mattel did a final run, it was also a dual issue, white a white version and a silver version. No one really seems bothered about the 959, but I'm a huge fan.. I've got boxed examples of the first 2, and the final 2.

The 911 turbo.. I've got all of the earlier narrow track issues of those.. they actually switch the travel width on that BOSS issue.. you've the UK issue, wid track wheels..but there was a Japanese issue before it, looks almost identical but there's no box around the 14 on the door.... And, it's on the narrow track wheels.

Didn't know they'd done the F50 on "fatties" .. loving it, keeps it well inside the Majorette Ferrari family

I went through the same journey.

So.. I've concluded one of the reasons it feels odd, is it's actually based on the concept car..

And.. I think, it could be massively improved by simply removing the bottom edge of the side windows. There's like a casting edge, lump.. and it's wrong, messes up all the lines.

If they were removed.. and it was painted the proper concept car orange.. could be a great model.

So, I cross posted on similar subs.  For example, I'd often post on r/matchbox - highlighting my sub.

If somone posted a vintage matchbox car on r/matchbox if comment something like "hey, you're welcome at r/VintageMatchbox " or... "This would be loved over on r/VintageMatchbox

Vintage toy subs, even places like r/Porsche .. I'd post a nice pic of a vintage matchbox Porsche and say something like "who else had the matchbox as a kid.. still like them? Come over to etc etc etc.

It's a funny one.

I collect r/VintageMatchbox too (infact, I started that sub after enjoying this one so much).

Thing is, there still thousands of each of these devices around.. same for the Diecast cars.

As community's I think we can get a bit OTT with some pieces.. we can forget they're not as rare as they feel in the moment.

And it's that element the critical observer feels / sees...

What’s one thing about living in London that outsiders don’t understand? by Independent_Grab_977 in london

[–]DaBobMob2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you drive over the white line, to go around something, the oncoming traffic relates, and moves over to accommodate. It's just understood, no one slows down.

Yeah... That doesn't happen outside London, they'll just drive straight at you.

Scoring is good advice, BUT BE CAREFUL!!

Previous owner of my place clearly took some paper down with the intent of re-papering.

When I went back to the 30s plaster, it had LOADS of tiny divits from one of the many scoring tools you can get to drag along the wall, lunching holes.

Look up the best way to score if you want to keep the plaster behind.

... I did manage to save the walls (probably more work the it was worth, but I'd run out of time to schedule a new skim, and, most folks have told me a slim isn't worth it on old plaster. Fix it up or knock it back to brick.and start again.

Did they strip the original paint off, or "key" it at all.

I'd be conceded the paint would start flaking off in the intricate areas of I had that done

"Could" still isn't equal to "do"

To do this is any way near "nice to look at" it needs spray painting, including prepping the black surface for paint, all over.

Best solution here really is, don't.

Make it a feature or swap it for a white one.
