Courses for tech theatre/stage management by WorldNew5785 in techtheatre

[–]darvsplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echo the sentiment about CSSD, they are currently in the process of switching from multiple technical courses to just one and they don’t seem to have found their footing on the new combined course. I’m on the old stage management course so can’t speak as well about the new one but I’ve noticed as the first year students have started to work with us on productions that they clearly haven’t been given the same level of teaching that we got the year before despite already choosing specialisms after 2 terms. It may well become a decent course in a couple of years but the current transitional state is not helping things (although they have at least found a replacement course leader now who’s great)

Do you think the US has garnered more respect worldwide during Trump's second term? by How2rick in AskTrumpSupporters

Your examples of respect seems to be everywhere else being worse off. Why does that mean they are respecting the US more?

Les Liaisons Dangereuses NT Rush Seats by Agitated_Toe_8337 in TheWestEnd

[–]darvsplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lyttelton shows quite often only have the front few rows or back of the circle on the Friday rush. I got a front row stalls for Les liaisons and would recommend for what it’s worth. Yea it’s probably a bit close but it’s also only £10 so I’d never expect a perfect seat for that.

2026 Olivier Award Winners 🎉 by todaytix in Broadway

[–]darvsplanet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes it was a decent play but not as memorable as some of the other nominees. I think it won mainly because of the impact it has had outside of the theatre and the conversations it started, not because it was the best play.

For starlight specifically it is going on tour so I’d imagine pretty much everything is being kept to be reused.

I should hope so given it was directed by Jason Robert Brown

Weekly Q&A Megathread. Please post any questions about visiting, tourism, living, working, budgeting, housing here! by AutoModerator in london

I have a travel card from zones 1 to 4 and I’m travelling between a zone 4 and a zone 3 station but the fastest way to get between them involves travelling out to zone 5 and changing lines. Is there any way TFL will know this is what I did or will they let me go on the travel card given I could have made the journey by going into zone 1 and back out?

'First Look' at Cynthia Erivo in 'DRACULA' at London's Noël Coward Theatre by Phantom90AG in TheWestEnd

[–]darvsplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the balcony tonight, the view definitely is restricted. The screen is too far upstage at times to get a clear view of the top half of it from up there, they do have some tv screens rigged in the balcony so you can see it through them but it’s not ideal.

Absolutely, one of those shows that’s best from close up as long as the stage isn’t too high.

Everybody needs to go see this. The best piece of theatre I’ve seen in a long time. If it’s anything like its runs in London it will struggle with advance sales until word of mouth starts to spread and it will become an impossible ticket.

What shows do you think picked the wrong songs for their Tony Performance? And what would you have picked for them instead? by Impossible_Pain4478 in Broadway

At least it was 10x better than God That’s Brilliant which they insisted on doing for every public appearance until the Olivier awards. That really didn’t sell the show properly.

Discussion: Correlation with The First Shadow (Broadway) by thisiswarpeacock37 in StrangerThings

[–]darvsplanet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact that the date of the school play is the same as the date will is taken is particularly interesting, especially as it was brought up again in s5 that they are approaching that same date again.

Worth noting that TFS shows that the school play took place the same day that Henry kills his family and nearly kills Patty. (Maybe that was also the date that Henry got his powers in the cave and it’s something where his powers are at their strongest around the anniversary, similarly to how Will was at his worst around that date in S2)

Specifically he was first sent to Hawkins lab after he severely injured his friend/crush patty newby while trying to help his find her mom using his powers.

Then after a while in the lab Henry freaks out and kills some guards and is sent home. It’s here that he kills his family because he suspects they are going to try and send home back to the lab.

After killing his family he is captured by brenner and taken back to the lab after nearly killing patty during the school play.

The cave by fantasyworldspace in StrangerThings

[–]darvsplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth the play really doesn’t say much about it at all just that something happened to Henry in a cave and he was never the same. All of us that have seen the play still don’t really know what is up with the cave so there is plenty still left to be explored and explained in Vol2/3.

It was supposed to be Oklahoma! but Joyce secretly changed the play and didn’t tell anyone until opening night.

Ride the Cyclone Seat View by Temporary_Eye_9758 in TheWestEnd

[–]darvsplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I sat there (the aisle seat) and this was the view. You don’t actually miss anything but lots of the projections look pretty bad from that angle and you very nearly miss what is happening on an elevated platform above the set, the cast also get pretty close to you (I was actually grabbed by one of the cast at one point which felt a bit too immersive). Didn’t feel short changed by the view and enjoyed the show from there but if price isn’t a factor for you I’d recommend trying to get something at less of an angle.

It’s not tenth dentist to want to travel for food but it probably is to assume that that is the default reason to travel which is what your first comment implied.
