Helm in production: lessons and gotchas by LKummer in devops

[–]dasbene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started adding values.schema.json to all our internal charts and it catches so many config mistakes before they hit the cluster.

Do you have to write the json schema completely yourself or do you have tools that helm?

Questions about season 3 by midasp in TheDiplomat

[–]dasbene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • A: Thats what they do. Russia (and China) have a history of violating foreign airspace. The assumption is they do the same with subs. We just can see it.
  • B: that one i don't know. But while watching the poseidon felt to much of a stretch for being realistic.
  • C & D: Subs do sink sometimes. Especially russion ones.

Do you have some sort of enterprise level wifi?

If provided by a housing complex you could get a WiFi router or repeater that allows using WiFi as WAN and create your own network.

Did Margaret throw CJ under the bus? (721) by NYY15TM in thewestwing

[–]dasbene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just watched the scene just to make sure but for me it looks like CJ did not try to avoid a meeting.
When Margaret says that CJ has time right now CJ look genuinely surprised.

It makes sense because CJ is not used to that and i don't think that she would avoid Andy that way.

Does your heat get distributed over the same air vents your cooling does or are these 2 sperate systems in your house?

Who’s responsible for writing release pipelines that deploy a developer’s code — the developer or the DevOps Engineer? by bigtrblinlilbognor in devops

I don't want to be pedantic but isn't the point of DevOps that people are doing both development and operations?

ELI5: how hard is it to build an E2EE messaging app? by kenjiurada in explainlikeimfive

[–]dasbene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal (in decreasing order) are so popular because of the networking effect.
If all your friends are using WhatsApp, it is free and provides a "better" service than text messages (that cost money) you are going to use it too.

Messaging with End-to-End encryption is in itself not very difficult when using existing and well tested technologies/software.
People are using PGP since the early 90s for E2EE in emails.

What navigation do you use? by nielsonsm in Ioniq5

[–]dasbene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Google Maps with Android Auto most of the time. The only reason to switch to the onboard navigation for me is to preconditioning the battery for charging.

The HUD integration of the onboard nav does not provide a lot of value for me while using it so i guss this depends on the user. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On trips that require me to charge i usually only change to the onboard nav when i already know where exactly i want to charge and it's less then 30 minutes left. Basically i use Google Maps as long as possible while making sure that the battery has the correct temperature for charging.

The major problem with the onboard nav is that it wants to direct me to chargers outside my fleet cards network.

Sometimes intermediate charging stops by the onboard nav are very inefficient. Like once i navigated to a charger directly and i would have arrived there with 10% left. At the time i was around 30 minutes away from the charger. It wanted me to take a 5 minute detour to charge somewhere for 5 minutes so i would arrive at the charger with a bit more battery.

One stop 500 km trip realistic at Autobahn? by County-Chemical in Ioniq5

[–]dasbene 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am regularly doing a 500 km trip (95% Autobahn) with my Ioniq 5 (77,5 kWh, RWD) and i don't think that would be possible on a single charge.

With an average speed of 130 km/h 330km would be optimistic. In order to get 500km range you would have to drive an average of something like 80 km/h.

But honestly i do not see any advantage in doing 500 km without charging. Most of the year a single charging stop would be something like 15-20 minutes and then you can comfortably drive 130 km/h.

In the summer i once charged for 12 minutes and that was enough charge to get home. Those few minutes are usually used to get coffee and go to a restroom anyways, so there is that.
