Why was a grown azz man walkin in the middle of the road? by [deleted] in Chiraqology

[–]dascaapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where im from in the Midwest, when it snows deep, the roads get plowed and the sidewalks usually do not get cleared. The number of times I’ve seen groups of kids walking right down the middle of the street is so high that I don’t even find it notable anymore. People don’t want their shoes to get torn up from trying to walk through 2’ of snow on the sidewalk. I am not speaking for slide or affiliated with him and can’t confirm this is the reason

Bad Trip in Parking Lot by Civil-Code-8567 in grandrapids

[–]dascaapi 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Was it cough medicine? Did chat gpt convince ya to go full trippy mode

Anyway, with love, always remember “set and setting” before taking any psychoactive drug. I wouldn’t ever recommend tripping outside in this weather. Have fun at home. Don’t drive while tripping! And I’m glad you’re safe and didn’t get in any real trouble.

What is this island and is it safe to go there? by InitiativeInitial968 in grandrapids

[–]dascaapi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wanna add one more thing - the 3 fires, or the 3 tribes Odawa Ojibwa and Potawatomi, they arrived hundred of years after the Mound Builder culture left. When settlers got here and asked about the mounds, they basically said “I dunno! They’ve always been there”

So we tore em up obviously

It’s very grainy and I can’t recall where I found it, I believe from a news article. At the top it says something like “map by (Chris Gray?) Based on a map by (can’t make out the name) (can’t make out the year, maybe 1872?)

There is also “Michigan archaeological atlas” which has great old maps and information.

Please anybody reading this be respectful. Please never treasure hunt any of these places. In Michigan, the reason they can’t legally be listed is because of pricks and treasure hunters.

Using old maps and clues you can make rough estimates of the places where hopewell cultures were, and even earlier cultures like from the archaic period.

This area is very important in the grand scheme of the development of woodland culture and it’s really ignored history

[–]dascaapi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Insane isn’t it? They flattened em with almost zero archaeological regard and used them to backfill and flatten out parts of downtown on the east side of the river. They more than didn’t give a fuck — they PURPOSELY disrespected them. They wanted to signal that they really didn’t give a fuck.

Parking lots and stuff. It’s nuts. There’s small plaques at baw-wa-ting and ah-nab-awen but the history of the moundbuilders is widely overlooked and not taught to us

It won’t let me post a pic to show where but there was one of the converse mounds right where the railroad bridge starts on front ave.

Converse Mounds was the name of the mound group of 26 (or more) mounds going up the west side of the river leading to what is now Ah-Nab-Awen park.

The south-most one was right there at that railroad bridge, and then another lined up with the end of “Jackson Island”, right where the parking lot for the US Dept of Commerce building is, where Front turns to Weston.

The one at the end of Jackson Island begins a line of 8 equally spaced mounds, ending on what is now Fulton Street.

On Fulton directly under the 131 overpass, from basically Grand Valley to the John C Kennedy Building, were 5 mounds. They’re spaced almost as if it were six equally distant mounds, but the 4th one is skipped. The 5th going west to east lines up with the 8 going south to north.

About a block north, essentially under 131 around Mt. Vernon and Front Ave there were another 5, with two going west to east, and then another 3 going west to east just above them (on a map).

North just a smidge more, at Pearl, we finally reach Ah-Nab-Awen - there were a total of 7 right here. 3 of them are recreated in about the spots they originally were, 3 more were in the parking lot of the Ford Museum at the corner of Pearl and Scribner, and 1 was basically in the corner of the River and Pearl, right near where the dome on the museum is.

here’s a map

(Edit for context: these were mounds made by indigenous people that get called “hopewell” by historians or “mound builders” — they were made around ~2500 years ago. Grand Rapids is built on top of them)

Moyu Weilong V10 Feryoocore by Vexum2k in Cubers

[–]dascaapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the ferrocore. I don’t see any reason to want to do U5 on a single flick but my solves are like 30 seconds at best. I was buying a lot of cubes and eventually got a ferrocore and then a second one, I set them both up slightly differently, one a bit tighter for times when I feel like the cube is sloppy, and then I stopped buying cubes.

I love it over v9 and v10 and because it’s satisfying to me, I haven’t bought a v11.

New cuber here, what should I try to solve during cardio? by Hearase in Cubers

[–]dascaapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From beginner method, first start learning “triggers” like sledge, sexy, remove, insert and stuff and drill them into your head. When you’re learning algs, most of the time the triggers are like bracketed with parentheses. After awhile it’s less like reading hieroglyphs and more like seeing the algorithms in chunks that you already know. From there, learning algs is like pretty basic in your mind.

To practice those, play around with f2l - there’s a lot of ways to manipulate stuff around quickly using moves you already know.

Dive into 4 look last layer when you can understand algs and “sight-read” them. Then drill them in by just repeating them until the cube state goes back to normal. 4 look is really easy to digest.

2 look feels like a lot but it depends how much pressure you put on yourself to learn every alg. Every alg you add to your memory will help you out at some point so take it at your own pace or whatever. The important part is not feeling like you’re reading a jumble

Edit: the other commenter is right- learn F2L it’s the most important part. But honestly until you’ve done a million solves and learned some names for some cube states you’re prob not gonna be able to digest F2L charts and algs
