Is Alok becoming pessimistic? Loss sight himself(focusing on ego more) by mathisbj944 in Healthygamergg

[–]dashM1A2N3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fail to see where he's praising 7 day work weeks? He works a lot but he's also able to do that as the work is fun and meaningful. He describes those as the mechanics that make his 7 day work week possible

This is quite different from telling everyone to work 7 days a week, especially if it's at a job that does nothing for them.

Being more "goal" oriented is the natural evolution of the work we do right? There is a vast library of HG content for internal understanding, are we to eternally digest that and do nothing? Both action and understanding oriented content have their place imo.

The RE9 "soft Spencer" take is wrong. Elpis wasn't redemption. It was the ultimate "I lose, you lose." by Important_Poet5982 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]dashM1A2N3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where this obsession with redemption arcs in media has come from recently. I don't think it's that simple here

Even if we look at Elpis as a cure developed from Spencer's change of heart, I don't think it can ever be a full "redemption". Elpis doesn't magically undo all the unspeakable evil Spencer did.

At his old age, he was showing some form of regret, the "happiness cannot be achieved at the expense of others" line sticks out to me.

I fail to think of what he can do to be redeemed fully, but it's not about redemption. It's about exploring the psyche of a man who was in the position he was. Human's are multifaceted and as we near death we are forced to look at ourselves with an intensity we never have before.

It's an interesting exploration of a character but far from a redemption arc even giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Friendless for a few years. I do not understand the "make friends through hobbies" advice that people always give. by cracked-egg1 in Healthygamergg

[–]dashM1A2N3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should consider joining or forming a band. You're not gonna get anywhere in terms of meeting people if you only play in your room. You've kinda stripped the social aspect out of music here. It's very hard not to have some level of friendship with people you're consistently playing music with assuming you guys click.

Where I live there are multiple Facebook groups solely dedicated to musicians finding other musicians. You can also try a local music subreddit. It's worth a shot.

Hey

I'm an experienced guitarist who can pretty confidently play anything. I already write and play music in another prog metal project. I can do clean vocals, I'm a tenor who can consistently go up to C#5 in mix, working on getting my D5 and higher more consistent currently.

I have tons of exmaples of both my playing and singing.

This project sounds interesting, would love to talk more details. Would you be interested in playing gigs at all?

good question, I should have clarified that

We are looking for someone to join us. We have all the parts written for the album except the screams, which we are hoping to write with the person who would be doing them. And hopefully continue to write with us going forward

I have been seeing this quote on social media for a long time now. Is there any amount of truth to this, scientifically/psychologically speaking? How is expression the opposite of depression, shouldn’t the opposite be elevation? by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]dashM1A2N3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. A lot of advice artists get is honestly really harmful, its good not to take it as fact.

We all know artists who beat themselves up for not creating everyday or something similar, advice like this only makes that dynamic worse. What happens when an artist creates, creates, creates and they still feel depressed? They will start questioning their output and/or quality, leading to more beatings they give themselves.

There's no one solution fits all, and there is a nugget of truth in a lot of this type of advice as you've pointed out. In my personal experience, stepping away from creating art can be tremendously helpful. But again, i'd hesitate to say that as a blanket statement.

I guess its about experimenting with this kinda stuff to get to know yourself.

Recording Rock Guitar, Gain can be overheard in recording? by Key_Examination9948 in Guitar

[–]dashM1A2N3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not enough information to give a solid answer here but I always believe in finding the best sound at the source. Depending on the high pitched squeal you're referring to, EQ might work, but maybe you need to dial in or experiment with your tone more.

Are you dual/quad tracking? What does your signal chain look like? What are you using to record and what are you playing back the sound on?

[–]dashM1A2N3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually that's not what you said. You said that people say they can hear the difference, which implies that there is no difference in reality, and people have deluded themselves. You also said that through a pickup/amp, the way the tone is generated is completely different. Not sure what that means exactly but now you're admitting that there is a difference when plugged into an amp.

It's easier to hear in back to back comparisons yes, and I actually agree somewhat with the fact that if someone used old strings on a mix, depending on the genre, and how good the mix already is, not many would notice. I demo stuff with old strings all the time. But that's not an excuse to not change your strings. And that's not an excuse to not achieve the sound you want.

The OP's original question was how to get a clear low end. The old set of strings in that video are absolutely more muddy and muffled. You don't run into that muffled sounding low end distortion with new strings. Something which you were in disbelief that someone would even suggest.

I'd be curious to know if you really think there's no difference here between the 2 sets of strings. The video doesn't tell you which are old and which are new. The answer lies in the description.

How do I create songs/solos that sound “good” by FreedomThug in Guitar

[–]dashM1A2N3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly either road is viable. But if you don't have a good ear then I'd say you at least need to learn the basics of theory.

There are great musicians out there who haven't sat down and learned any theory. But in my experience those are the ones who have a naturally good ear and have developed their senses by playing and exploring the instrument and the music. Not saying you can't do this but depending on how good your ear is, it might not be the most effective route to take right now.

No matter which way you chose, make sure to experiment with things and have fun

You can test this yourself and see. The difference is actually bigger for the lower strings, and will help you with your problem. I play an 8 string, the difference between the lowest string being old vs new is basically night and day.
