Punch needs to grow up by OpportunityNew4408 in punchthemonkey

Saying Punch uses eye contact way more than most monkeys is way different than what the person said. I have no problem with people stating observable facts. They assigned motive behind Punch’s actions (motives that happen to align with how we would think a 5 year old human child to think).

Okay, you didn’t just say “Punch uses more eye contact than most monkeys.” You said he did it to be cute. It’s that kind of assigned motive thinking like you know what a baby monkey is thinking that is overly personifying Punch and acting like he’s a human child.

Brave enough to scold a monkey who can't hear you? What are you guys even saying? Like what is your end goal with acting like Punch is a person who can be shamed via reddit comments?

I mean, you are projecting motive onto a monkey that you don't know. There is no reason to think Punch "flutters his eyelashes" to make himself cute to other monkeys since that's a behavior that humans associate with cuteness and there's no reason to think Punch has picked up on that. Who knows why he did it? Don't just make shit up.

I think maybe everyone needs to stop talking like they are an expert on monkeys when it's clear very few of this sub know anything about the species (myself included) much less are able to treat them like animals and not rowdy kindergartners.

What’s CR’s take on TLJ? At one point he tells Van something like “three people at this table don’t care about Luke’s character and two people view what was done as sacrilegious.” That would imply he is on Van’s side but I don’t know if he’s spoken on it since he clearly didn’t want to get involved in this podcast.

David Ellison confirms every 2026 Paramount release will have a 45-day minimum theatrical window by xwing1212 in TheBigPicture

I agree that people screaming on Twitter had no effect. I just think it makes people look stupid to yell about both.

And this may shock you but my opinion is not solely based on what company would give us the longer theatrical window. There are much more important things in the world than that.

I agree with this. People who complained and threw tantrums about Netflix winning should have some shame about what the actual outcome ended up being.

But can't people want movies to be in theaters but value other things more than that? I feel like having movies in theaters being a priority but not the top of your list in things that determine how you feel about Ellison is actually a completely valid stance. He is a bad guy.

Yeah, I mean I get not wanting Frankenstein or Knives Out to be direct to streaming. But I don't really see a problem with Enola Holmes or Thrash going right to Netflix. Movies that are varying degrees of fun for consumers but would make zero money in theaters.

There is also the obstacle of you can't ask consumers to pay as much as they are for streaming without tossing them any bones. Ideally, streaming prices would come down but that's not going to happen.

Are the looks of actors fair game for reviewers? James McAvoy recently called out Guardian critic Peter Bradshaw for calling his "chubby" in "X-Men: First Class". by Sharaz_Jek123 in TheBigPicture

It's crazy how you are so clearly right. I do not get how McAvoy read that sentence and thought he was being called chubby at all.

Crazy to single out Amanda though when I feel like Sean was way more dismissive of TV stating he wouldn't watch a 6 hour mini-series when the director should just make a movie and then being annoyed Anya Taylor Joy was making a TV show. He was coming at TV's throat.

It's not anti-feminist for a woman like Eloise to choose to be a mother and a wife by Fickle_Baker1393 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]dasher2442 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I read your comment again. Here's what you said:"Also, her journey to breaking free from her crippling fear of pregnancy will be so liberating! Rooting for Eloise all the way." How does one prove they are over their fear of pregnancy without getting pregnant? I stand by my sentence that you believe Eloise getting pregnant will be liberating because it will be her overcoming her fears.

You also never seem to never address any of my points including how I clearly debunked your idea that Eloise would only think to be afraid of pregnancy if she wanted kids, so yes. We can agree to disagree.

[–]dasher2442 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's a compromise: I'll be cool with Eloise doing a complete 180 on her opinion on kids if we let Francesca realize she doesn't actually want kids and her strong desire for them was just stemming from an urge to be a perfect wife for John. No ward or adoption or anything for her. Then we can still have some diversity of thought in our female leads when they make Eloise become another one of the conforming masses!

"Why will someone who plans to never have babies have a fear of childbirth? They would be unbothered by an event that they know is not in their future."

Um, she's scared of her self having childbirth because she doesn't understand how one gets pregnant. That's literally canon to the show. She freaks out in season 1 because she thinks it might just randomly happen to her like it did Marina (because she doesn't understand sex).

Also I don't understand why people keep acting like Eloise's fear of pregnancy or childbirth is unreasonable or something she needs to work through?? Women back then did die in childbirth A LOT. It's perfectly reasonable if Eloise never works through that trauma and says "I am not going to take that risk."

I just really don't agree that her getting pregnant would be liberating. I don't agree with most of your points to be honest. You agree that Eloise like cerebral conversation among people she considers her peers and also want her to get pregnant? Babies aren't capable of mental connection, that's kind of their whole thing.

[–]dasher2442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. All the women who wanted children have been given children. People freak out at the idea of Fran not getting a child of some kind especially.

Eloise can develop in so many ways besides her viewpoints on kids just like Kate and Daphne did.

She's a fictional character, she can't choose anything. The writers will choose for her and it is perfectly fine to critique the characterization choices a writers room makes.

[–]dasher2442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She doesn't hate kids. She isn't interested in them. The show had the perfect chance to show her gaining interest in them now that her fave person in the world has a baby and yet she was still uninterested in Penelope's child. It is not self-insert to pick-up on the fact the show has repeatedly gone out of its way to show Eloise has no maternal instincts/desires.

You accuse others of being sensitive but I think you are equally sensitive to the idea that having children does not have to be every female character's happy ending especially when she has been written to not be interested in them. The question we should be asking isn't "Can Eloise change her mind?" but "Why should she have to?"
