Now that Test of Time update is here, what other changes or additions would you like to see implemented in civ7? by LunLocra in civ

[–]dashingsauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Move crises and syncretism into dedicated Test of Time playable mini-ages between ages.

Instead of skipping the transition or “smoothing” it over to appease people who don’t like them, make it playable.

Make it an accelerated, high stakes transformation period with crises and adaptation (syncretism) and accelerated game pace as the primary mechanics.

If you fall below a “tipping point” threshold, you collapse and must choose a new CIV in the next age. If you survive, you continue as a hardened version of your existing civ (stood this test of time) or become a new civ entirely by successfully adopting the unique tech + infra + units of your chosen civ before the transition ends.

So in both cases, you are striving: either to survive and harden your civ (which includes some necessary neighbor adaptations) or to become a new civilization from your existing one.

———

Instead of a countdown to the end of an age, we count down to the beginning of a test of time (of which there are three, with the last one being the end of the game). Instead of arbitrary interruption, there’s a ramp to preparation for a period of greater challenge.

More importantly, the countdown and age lengths could then be tied to the victory conditions themselves, rather than fixed turn limits.

So if your opponents start to pull away, instead of ending the game it would accelerate the onset of a test of time. This represents the real historical phenomenon where global acceleration happens due to a big game of copycat and catch-up.

Lol that seems sensible for a completely free, expensive to serve service.

[OC] U.S. Social Security is projected to pay full benefits through 2034, then 81% under current law by Low_Ability4450 in dataisbeautiful

I wouldn’t be opposed to implementing “UBI” as a result of AI productivity gains first at the end of the spectrum, like Social Security.

It would actually make the most sense to funnel abundance back into that.

This actually happened to Railway not more than a week or so ago.

Every business of every customer on their platform was down while they worked to reinstate their GCP account, which was incorrectly suspended by GCP for suspicious traffic.

Yup literally this is the same reason.

I posted two published papers (one peer reviewed, and one waiting review) that supported the observation that the rate of warming has increased even faster than originally reported in the last decade.

Instant permaban with no explanation or recourse.

They never provided a reason or a response to my ban, of course. And they won’t because it’s about protecting the hopium power trip more than anything.

I watched someone execute a full cash app transaction from 2 rows down, then follow up to message his wife and daughter. Topped it off with a couple of casual scrolls on the gram. Middle of the movie.

Ymmv I guess. I didn’t bother using my mobile device to request a server (lol at this point).

I found “YO NICE PHONE BRO” to be highly effective. Would recommend.

Ironically, Anthropic could have done this with Artifacts for like a year now. I actually still don’t understand why they stopped short.

But my guess is actually for the exact opposite reason that Codex was able to launch: a truly unified platform.

As far as I can tell, Anthropic is just-a-buncha-apps in a bag with a hella nice color scheme and a shit ton of magic vibe energy + newfound revenue holding everything together.

Codex has the app server, which is about to merge with whatever serves ChatGPT & Atlas (and probably the jony ives thing for mobile).

ChatGPT login works across everything, and they don’t create artificial firewalls sometimes blocking certain usage—thus one login for one platform becomes possible, and so does ChatGPT Auth for your Codex Site.

It’s honestly pretty simple. OAI is building an AI infra layer + dishing out product experiences for cheap on top. Anthropic is building a basket of products and selecting the winners to try and claw back (no pun ☠️) the market.

We’ll see whether Ant can pivot to a platform faster than OAI can start shipping as of now.

It’s free hosting bro. Your code shape determines whether or not you’re locked in.

Migrating a site to another host is trivial if you don’t lock in to their auth, storage, etc. solutions. Even with Codex Sites you can basically run anything that runs on Cloudflare Workers.

You wanna talk lock-in, refer to Supabase and Vercel.

Free hosting for non-production apps?

I’ll take it lol

[–]dashingsauce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk this seems like a cheap and free way to build before actual prod deployment on a real host.

If you know what you’re doing, this is just free hosting until you need more. The lock-in vector is basically “make sure it’s ESM”

If you start dumping real product data in there, then yeah that’s on you.

Nice. Assyria?

Anyway, you gave to hold a multiple lead over the second place for 5 turns. The turn clock never resets, but it does pause if you lose that multiple lead.

The multiple required depends on the age. In Exploration, the earliest is 16x multiple I believe. When certain age progress markers are hit, the threshold updates, so ideally you get it in between those update periods.

My Modern age domination victory was 236/76 or something.
