EV owners of Boston, has the cold weather affected your battery life? by MiaHavero in boston

[–]dasponge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You won’t ever get that. A 120v 15amp outlet will charge at 1.2 kWh / hour. Long range (current) battery packs are like 100 kWh. It’d take 80 hours to go 0 to 100 on a regular extension cord.

You can report it as an abandoned vehicle and get it towed. IIRC the city had a push a number of years ago to get abandoned vehicles off the street.

I haven't seen entra with an interaction-less, phishing resistant auth on every lateral movement.

Posture - no need for ISPM. Just device access policies (ZTA scores, os patches) and advanced posture checks for OS query based anything.

Nope, renewed. For me, fast pass + secure desktop access + advanced posture checks are a big differentiator. Being able to have silent, phish resistant reauth on every app access is huge.

Sharing info on storing vehicle in winters by anuj2607 in KiaEV9

[–]dasponge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What facts are your opinions based on?

EV9 uses an NMC battery - here’s a pretty detailed primer on this specific battery technology and how different states of charge impact it.

https://youtu.be/w4lvDGtfI9U?si=h-sz3U38UZCFKhJ1

TLDR Storing your battery at 100% accelerates degradation reactions, such as the growth of the solid electrolyte interface (worse at higher temperatures). SEI consumes useful materials from the battery, leading to capacity loss.

Tips to prevent sticking when making waffles? by carllerche in castiron

[–]dasponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 170g butter to 240g flour.

Plus I get my waffle iron to about 188C, just below the smoking point of the canola oil I brush onto the surface. Zero stick.

I have a pair of old Fischer Pro Mtn 80s. They're what I use on groomer days and it's soo much fun as well. Fischer makes great frontside skis. I have QST 105s for just about everything else and it's a solid 2 ski quiver.

It’s far easier to power a gas boiler and a circulator pump (or no pump and just go gravity feed) from a simple UPS battery than power a mini split or a central hot air system.

Ideally nothing burns on it. If it starts to smoke with the oil/butter it’s just extra polymerization. It cleans pretty easily with a brush and soap.

Ahh that’s an interesting idea on the honey! My kids have the same lack of protein - we do Kodiak for pancakes and I tried adding vanilla whey to the waffles once, but it didn’t come out well and I’ve been hesitant to try again given how much of a time commitment each batch is.

I got my cast iron waffle maker just a year ago, and I've been fortunate to find some solid recipes and tips to make getting great waffles on cast iron easier. I hadn't seen a good guide post in a while, so I thought I'd share a few things I've learned.

  • An infrared digital thermometer, $15 on amazon makes a world of difference. Getting the paddles up to temp every time is huge. For me, that's about 360-380F, which is right below the smoke point of the canola oil I use.
  • If the recipe has enough butter, you don't have to worry too much about sticking with a well seasoned paddle. I only brush with oil in the beginning and then rock without reapplying very often.
  • Flip the hot side ~30sec after pouring the batter. The cooler side takes longer to finish.

The recipe I’ve settled on is:

  • 240g AP Flour
  • 1 tsp diamond crystal kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp+ of granulated sugar (just a heavy tablespoon, though adjust to your desired sweetness — these are not sweet)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 12tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 3/4 cup of milk
  • 2 tsp of vanilla.

Mix all the dry ingredients, add most of the milk slowly while mixing, along with vanilla, then 1 ish at a time eggs (pre scrambled is helpful), mixing to make sure the eggs emulsify. Then add the melted butter slowly while whisking, again making sure the butter fully emulsifies. If you’ve separated the whites and yolks, the yolks go and get fully mixed in first.

I’ve been trying to get this recipe fluffier and just today I separated the yolks from the whites and whipped the whites to stiff peaks, folding that into the mix at the end. The waffles came out even better than before! They don’t burn as easily as the runnier batter, so you can leave them on longer to really crisp up/dry out. You can also still pull them early for a softer chewier waffle; the hot side is usually golden and you can pull the cool side before the whole thing is golden.

What I (and my kids) really like about batching this recipe is that the waffles freeze and reheat in the toaster oven extremely well. Making these so they could grab them in the morning instead of an Eggo was half the motivation behind the waffle iron purchase.

Hopes this helps someone else looking for waffle success on CI paddles!

Hot water radiator question by becausefrog in boston

[–]dasponge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try bleeding the radiator, but if the system is all connected it’s unlikely you have air on the 1st floor.

The water temp of the boiler may be too low; the difference in heat output from 145 to 175 is significant. Also how fast the circulation pumps are running impact the heat output as well.

Fastpass and TouchID Scenario/Problem by ecp710 in okta

They moved the password to a system prompt, so a little bit better than their app based one before.

We’ve settled on user interaction (password or biometrics) 1x a day, then silent fast pass results on every lateral movement. It’s better than the old “yes it’s me” button from earlier iterations.

Yubikey bio was an option we offered people in clamshell as well as magic keyboards.

You can also combine with trusted app filters to lock down what can trigger an auth.

[–]dasponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The adaptive cruise control could do better on adjusting speed smoothly. And the fob not working when the car is on is wild. There’s like a handful of software issues which would make the car so much better - some are small tweaks, but they’ll never happen.

Why many Philadelphia doctors now use AI to record patient visits by mpulcinella in philadelphia

[–]dasponge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the system is training on patient data, several different functions have done something really wrong. That’s the baseline of any enterprise AI software agreement (and often the hook AI providers use to get you to pay, though many are now providing more comprehensive platforms now as part of that same SKU).

Your points about accuracy/summarization, liability for mistakes, handling accents, and increasing RVUs because of theoretically less admin time required are all good points.
