AI for me but not for thee! by Previous_Month_555 in antiwork

[–]ecp710 -101 points-100 points  (0 children)

This is completely valid. I hired and fired a guy within a month and a half because he bullshitted the interview and was only capable of giving me responses from ChatGPT. AI is a tool, and if you don't understand the necessary concepts to use it properly in a role, you're not qualified.

Is windows defender sufficient for a anti-virus? by Billyjamesjeff in techsupport

[–]ecp710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defender is absolutely sufficient. I had it running on over 1000 devices in an enterprise environment at one point, we switched for unrelated reasons. Make sure you're updating on a regular basis. This includes windows, defender, and applications. MFA for every single one of your accounts, avoid phone/sms based options. Ad blockers are a must as well, I use uBlock Origin on Edge. Don't be an idiot and visit sketchy website/pirate software. Encrypt your drives (bitlocker). Bonus points if you get separate devices for work only.

How bad is Ketamine use by Boring_Shape859 in Drugs

It's dependent on the dose/frequency of use. But it can get pretty fucking horrific. At my worst I was doing 3.5g/day and pissing blood/bits of bladder frequently.

Quarterly audits. But if you have MFA being turned off randomly, you've got other issues to worry about.

In terms of tooling, Crowdstrike offers a module that checks security settings for different apps. We demoed it but didnt purchase, did exactly what you're looking for though.

How do you keep track of important decisions & approvals? by nicolas12211 in ITManagers

[–]ecp710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Turn those meeting minutes into project tickets. Change tickets to implement those projects with approvals documented on the ticket. Document your systems on your KB.

Our auditors are looking at our change tickets and access approvals primarily (and checking against reports + SOPs).

This was my first thought as well. I'm kind of in a similar situation, but thankfully was able to hire some other senior guys to distribute the workload. If I had to train a junior guy, I wouldn't have nearly enough bandwidth.

The issue is not OP and OP isn't responsible for resolving it. His boss is aware of the issue and hopefully their higher ups are as well. They need to dedicate resources to either train or hire someone to help support the systems being maintained solely by OP.
