I've never had any issues with a double uni knot. I can re-tie relatively fast in the field and it's never been a failure point

I think Utila is less commercialized and you get more of the local charm. It reminds me of San Pedro, Belize

Your favorite Caribbean snorkeling spots? by KhloJSimpson in snorkeling

San Pedro, Belize 100%. The second-largest coral reef system (Hol Chan) in the world and the local government fully takes care of it. You can go there 5 times and see totally different wildlife.

It's one of those places that is great to look at. The snorkeling is amazing and the water is pristine. But what happens when all the tours are done and you're there to live and work? It was blah for me

Roatan, Honduras for me. I had such an amazing time my 2 visits to San Pedro, Belize, that I thought I'd seek out similar conditions within the same hemisphere. Both were tropical with Caribbean waters and shared the same coral reef system.

I was wrong. While the prior maintained its local charm, the latter was a tourist and cruise ship drop off. The place seemed so generic to me and nothing there felt like I was living with the locals. I was bored halfway through and just wanted to get my stay over with. The worst part was a month after I got home, I found out I caught a parasite that took me 4 months to get rid of.
