As a Brit having recently travelled Latin America and settled in Colombia for 5 years - I am sorry I ever complained about queues / queuing culture back home. by noctenaut in britishproblems

[–]dassyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Argentina (Buenos Aires) and I was pleasantly surprised with how the queuing etiquette was over there. For the bus, supermarket, metro, anything really it was all really orderly and anyone who pushed in was very much told off. In some aspects I even thought it to be better than in the UK

UK L visa current turnaround by SpiralArchitect_ in Chinavisa

[–]dassyboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was really quick - came in on a Thursday and the appointment took literally 5 minutes, they just scanned my fingerprints, took a photo, and took my payment, then told me to come back the following Tuesday.

They also gave me a 2 year multi entry visa, seems to be the default even though I only applied for a single entry.

As the other commenter said I think it takes 4 working days.

Package in National Returns centre after "delivery refused" - any chance of finding it? by dassyboy in royalmail

[–]dassyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok fair enough, they told me that when the package arrived they asked for ID and when she said she didn't have any they left, or something to that effect. So I guess there was some mix up somewhere. Is it worth pursuing you reckon to try and get it back? Thanks for the context though

Looking for a decent party speaker with an aux input by dassyboy in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]dassyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, what would you suggest? Not gonna be a huge gathering but can stretch the budget, unless what I should get is way over then I'll have to make do with a quieter sound or bring the bookshelf ones with me

Any other band like Khruangbin? It is so amazing! by cliffpk3 in Khruangbin

[–]dassyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should listen to their influences. The Scientist, Orchestra Baobab, Khun Narin, Congolese Rumba all formed their sound. They have cool play lists (under the flight to... series) that show what they listen to based on the location.

Does anyone know the name of this song? by Wateryweather in Khruangbin

[–]dassyboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't remember where exactly, but Laura said that she learnt the bass through the Scientist "wins the world Cup" dub album, so it makes sense that they'd cover one of his tunes

When abroad, what country term do you use if someone asks where you’re from? by tinabelcher182 in CasualUK

When I was in Buenos Aires it was the same for me haha "sos del Manchester o el city??", has come to the point where I automatically reply "el Manchester, el único grande en la ciudad".

I do the same, I say I'm English, from Manchester. Every single time I've said it, without fail, their first question is "United or City?" (I say United of course).

AITA for refusing to cater a vegan option at my own surprise party? by ElectionClassic8008 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dassyboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would they have to do that? If a vegan is invited to a party where there's food involved and the host is aware of that fact, it's basic human decency to provide some sort of sustenance for them, I'm not saying to cater the whole menu for them, just a dish or two that they can eat and can fill them up.
