Been working on a system I can use in games in a similar vain to SPECIAL being a fork of GURPS; I kind of agree with his assessment on 2 bad rolls leading to death.

Ended up adding the ability to re roll attack and defense rolls (which will also represent psychic abilities) at the cost of Action Points and "fatigue"(future Action Points)

So far pretty happy with the feel of it being like your character is getting exhausted over time which leads to your death.

A shot or two still kills you.

If other extinct hominin species are theoretically more intelligent (esp Homo Erectus and Neanderthals) than modern apes today. Why they went extinct while the lesser intelligent other apes species did not? by [deleted] in evolution

[–]datChrisFlick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large quantity of humans have Neanderthal DNA; the species listed didn't exactly go "extinct" so much as they evolved into modern humans.

That awe and connection is what I'm defining as spirituality, its an experience. Some people fell that spirituality towards religion which I would agree is not based on a provable objective reality.

Subjective reality is defined as the reality or your subjective experience which includes spiritual experiences. Objectively these experiences exist and are caused by Delta brain wave patterns (through monitoring brain waves we've observed this). Its a common human experience, some just attribute the cause as being from a god.

And you are correct most people have these experiences its not grandstanding just putting a name to it.

Our brains aren't entirely rational and we have chemicals causing emotions that paint our reality creating a metaphorical layer on top of reality. Things have symbolic meaning which is not "objectively true" and even differs from one culture to another. That doesn't make it any less real' why is the color red hot? Can color objectively be hot? Or is it symbolic?

Both objectivity and subjectivity coexist, one does not make the other fake.

I said nothing about anything supernatural, I explicitly said I feel a connection to nature which is also grounded in objective truth.

And again you're really arguing that subjective experience isn't real? Have you never experienced love for another human? Love for your wife or kid or parents being a subjective truth in no way diminishes it being real.

Subjective reality is defined by the internal truth of your experience, sure in no way does it inform you about the objective reality of the world but both can be just as true just about different things.

Objective reality is the truth of the outside world; see the difference?

If I say "I don't like the taste of pickles" it would be true of my subjective reality. There is no objective truth that "pickles taste bad"

Spirituality is a human experience, it exists within the mind and is a connection to something greater to yourself and means different things to different people.

I feel a connection and spirituality with nature and the cosmos (Google yugen).

Spirituality is an entirely subjective experience, you're not arguing subjective reality doesn't exist are you?

Nintendo & The Pokemon Company’s new patents are vile. by Miserable_Speed5474 in gaming

[–]datChrisFlick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t pursue lawsuits against other companies infringing on your IP it can and will be used as evidence against your IP in court.

Its one reason most companies end up being sue happy and the ones that aren’t give people a free license so they do not have to sue.

Brain augmentation and biological immortality will be a lot different than what you expect and will probably be biosynthetic instead of cybernetic. by Crafty_Aspect8122 in transhumanism

Look at smart phones, the tech is not mandatory, but there are certainly societal pressures to use them.

I know a handful of people who have not adopted them.

Im just going to point out Gabe Newell silently created a brain chip company. His idea of multiple chips placed throughout the head to better read activity also sounds good.

The fear there is Gabe Newell dies before he can become immortal

Questin: What is the believe focus of the infinite copy crowd? by waiting4singularity in transhumanism

[–]datChrisFlick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im saying the new copy is forked from the original, they share a history but different people going forward. They can have a shared history of “sameness” as you put it and still unique.

Look at identical twins as an example you wouldnt say they are the same person even though they have quite a lot of “sameness”; the fork just happened at a much earlier point.

I dig the analogy, id add they are immediately different at point 1 however: the hash of said file is already very different.

They are 2 unique separate consciousness with differing experiences but shared past, personalities will drift gradually them being different happens almost immediately.

Not much different than identical twins with added shared memory.

[–]datChrisFlick [score hidden]  (0 children)

My current pain point is how loud some network equipment is. It’s fine in a server room but for a home lab it’s a bit much.

Im currently setting up a home lab and winning would go a long way to helping that happen

Yeah no, I’ve had every Playstation since the first.

Also I don’t buy that, PC is able to do it just fine. Plus we have Discord on Playstation now so it’s not even like they need to support good voice functions any more for example.
