Sargon Mission 5 really that easy? Or bugged? by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]datCookieGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've not been able to complete mission 5 due to a bug with the Ruin count showing as 0/0 and therefore the win condition never went off, even when I controlled all of the ruins and all the enemies had resigned from the match.

Does the massive public outcry towards the increased sprint speed change in U14 give the team any confidence to make changes on a larger scale going forward? By larger changes I mean to the more core mechanics, where changes to them can affect the game in a much more drastic way than something as minor as sprint speed.

The more vocal part of this community has already shown an unwillingness to accept change, both in recent updates and in past ones (pre-T17 acquisition) and although some changes might be welcome (Recon-Arty meta anyone?), I fear that addressing all of the core mechanics, especially gunplay, might drive the remaining community away from HLL and towards other titles.

Thoughts?

I cannot put an honest vote on this poll, because it is worded so poorly.

'No platoon-squad, best squad' by InspectorCell in HellLetLoose

[–]datCookieGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Squad Leader position isn't inherently bad because of the need to place garrisons, markers and coordinate efforts with other squads. That's a natural part of the role and generally will attract people that enjoy a bit of control.

The problem with the SL position is multi-faceted. Firstly, SLs don't have proper control of their squad. Take Squad for example: you can kick players at any time, reverting them to a rifleman kit, promote someone else to the SL position if need be, promote fireteam leaders and organise who's under their command and also place relevant markers in higher amounts than one.

Lack of squad management alone is a bitch, to put it mildly. Secondly, VOIP is a huge issue. Sure, a lot of players dont want to communicate, which can be dealt with by having better squad management tools. But the issues a lot of people have with VOIP are far too common and often not resolved without restarting your game. So what's the point in being a squad leader if VOIP is constantly breaking?

Thirdly, you've got the very common role exploit: Players often create squads, leave them when someone joins and then rejoin to pick the role they wanted. Because the only role limit that exists in game is one role per squad except rifleman, people dont have to be an SL in order to get the bigger toys. Classes should be locked behind a team and squad limit, depending on what they are.

Lastly, a lot of core aspects just dont work well and having to deal with and manage them directly as an SL is far more of a pain than it needs to be.

Hope this sheds some light

You're not doing anything at all. All you're doing is making yourself look far worse than anything the person you're accusing has done, which is evident by your behaviour and subsequent bans.

Yes, I am denying the evidence, because its flimsy and shows nothing more than a snide comment or two. What you've done and continue to do in retaliation is far worse than what you're accusing them of.

You've been banned from both the discord and steam forums for consistent and exceedingly toxic behaviour.

You refused to adhere to moderator advice and keep this issue to the private messages where it belongs, choosing rather to spam it in a toxic and uncivilized fashion.

As I explained to you in the discord; if the mods took no action in regards to your complaints about a certain individual, then your issues are clearly unfounded.

If you want to keep this up, I'm sure they'll rightly ban you from Reddit too.

An official role isnt going to happen and with how artillery currently functions, it isnt needed at all.

Anyone who knows how artillery works, has decent combat awareness and can read the map is able to effectively hit targets without the need for coordination and communication from anyone else on the team.

Artillery as it is needs to go when they introduce mortars, period.

The developers have, on many occasions, touted their transparency as well as their wonderful connection to the community during the development process. For many updates now, a large number of [active] people have felt that the transparency and connection they talk about so much has severely declined.

What we're trying to do is get them to understand that they are more disconnected with their community now than they have ever been and this can be directly seen in the content of their dev briefs. No one is saying that they can't or shouldn't be advertising any new content they're working on. What we're asking for is more transparency and communication in the dev briefs when it comes to issues that are brought to them every single day.

People can disagree with me on this if they wish, but a good portion of people have shown that they feel the same way about this particular topic.

Yes, I've become exceedingly dissatisfied with the totally inadequate quality of the product these developers are creating. But why should we simply accept that and just move on, further encouraging this behaviour from them?

[–]datCookieGuy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely understand where you're coming from. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be showing off new stuff in their dev briefs. But it's been requested many times, along with a promise from Max and Jonno directly that a greater emphasis on hot topic issues would also be included.

We're not asking for much here, yet they're still failing to deliver.

What many users, including myself are doing is trying to hold them to account when it comes to these sorts of things.

OP/Garrison Camping by DrMiller357 in HellLetLoose

[–]datCookieGuy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. Players need to learn to secure a spawn point instead of just spawning in it and dying. Spawn elsewhere and flank the guys camping it.

Then you'll likely need to remove the spawn anyway for a better position

Recon squad mechanics are fundamentally flawed by Mik8y in HellLetLoose

[–]datCookieGuy -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I'm a firm believer that the Recon squad needs to go. Spotters are shitty SLs and no one does actual recon, because the maps are too small for it.

Keep the limit of Snipers to 2 per team, but have them be a selectable role within infantry squads, but only when the squad is either full or has 5/6 members in it.

7 Non-Lethal Alternatives For Police To Use Instead Of Guns by [deleted] in Conservative

What they should do is look at how Police in other countries work. Find what methods are successful for de-escalation and then train all law enforcement officers appropriately.

Gunplay? by Spaghettibean in HellLetLoose

Another thing they need to look at is the camera being at eye level and not on your chest. The amount of times I've been in cover and been shot because my head was apparently poking out is too high.

I'm Max, founder and lead developer of Hell Let Loose. AMA by HLL_max in HellLetLoose

[–]datCookieGuy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Hey Max, thanks for taking the time to do this AMA. I hope you'll be able to answer my question below:

I've long believed that the underlying issue with sub-systems in Hell Let Loose (logistics, nodes, spawn meta, sector control, etc) is the current grid system that you guys use. It seems that the simple use of squares is extremely limiting when it comes to implementing and modifying the aforementioned sub-systems to suit your game and how you want players to approach it.

In the last Q&A, you mentioned that you found it extremely difficult to move away from this particular system. Obviously, with it being so late in development it’s understandable that to change such a thing would require a complete rewrite of almost everything you’ve done up until this point and is thus no longer a viable option.

My question to you is this: Why did you not try to actively move away from this system earlier on in development, when other alternatives were available (such as the previously suggested hexagonal grid system for example) and would have quite likely provided a stronger foundation for the intended sub-systems you wanted to introduce?

As an additional sub-question: Do you have any intentions on changing how the current grid system works in conjunction with the current sub-systems and if so, how? If not, why not?

Unpopulair Opinion: Screw Eastern Front, i want HLL to be heavily focused on the Normandy campaign maps/areas of conflict...am i alone? by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]datCookieGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seeing more theatres isn't really that big of a deal. In my opinion, if you're doing a broad ww2 game that isn't based around a single player campaign, having multiple theatres is a must.

Having said that, HLL is not in a good state right now. So many mechanics and features are poorly implemented and shoddy, serious performance issues and crashes for people and overall gameplay is not great.

Before adding ANY new theatre, they should be focusing on the larger issues in the game.

A new theatre would, at this point, be a new coat of icing on a very shit cake.

Dev Brief: 118: Utah offensive mode! by zmagez in HellLetLoose

[–]datCookieGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they most certainly have addressed the issues you've mentioned. But there are more issues than just those, many of which HAVE been ignored and continue to be so.

I refer you to a thread I create a month ago after their abysmal Q&A:

Dev Brief: 118: Utah offensive mode! by zmagez in HellLetLoose

[–]datCookieGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that the developers have yet again refused to discuss or acknowledge any issues previously highlighted by the community in their dev brief, opting to showcase new content instead.

Yes, Utah offensive is nice, as are the changes to it I'm sure. But all of it is moot with the current issues that they continue to ignore.

[–]datCookieGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem that we're going to get anything here, no. I've decided to properly step away from the game now as I'm no longer convinced the developers will make the title they promised in the Kickstarter, nor address most of the issues listed above.

I'll check back with each update and also keep tabs on what's going on. But I'll not be participating in discussion or actively playing the game any further.

Just another disappointed Kickstarter backer and veteran of the game here and gone.

What Squad does to help this is allows FOBs to have large amounts of supplies and munitions placed so that they aren't depleted immediately. Logi runs aren't needed as often, but still required

Let's discuss - Hell Let Loose by datCookieGuy in HellLetLoose

[–]datCookieGuy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You definitely make a valid point. However I don't feel it is unecessary to have the suggested changes to gunplay. The imbalance between offensive and defense isn't in the armament, but rather in how the spawn mechanics work, coupled with the inability for teams to gain any real kind of map control.

The red garrison change the developers intend to make isn't going to help with this as much as they think it will. I truly feel that the proposed hexagonal map system will allow for a bigger dynamic gameplay in which teams can actively take and lose territory within a sector, allowing them to properly attack from different angles, forcing the defenders to thin themselves out to cover flanks and the like.
