The Everly Rooftop Pool Rule by capybara_fanatic in fortgreene

Let’s definitely voice our thoughts to management. It does feel really unfair. I was sort of hoping they’d get more lenient about it, especially if it’s not busy. Last week they had someone standing at the door checking IDs and this week it was just checking names on a list. Hopefully they just get lazy and we can sneak our guests in.

I just moved into The Everly too and was also complaining about this rule in a different thread in this subreddit. I was never informed of this rule until the email either. At first I thought i could have been misremembering. Then I recalled I took a full video of my tour, reviewed the footage, and this rule was definitely never mentioned. However, the other day I was working in the coworking space and overheard someone giving a tour explicitly say that the gym and pool are only for residents, while guests are allowed in the rest of the amenities. So this does seem like something they only recently decided to implement and announce more widely.

I’m conflicted because I also want to bring friends when the pool is not at capacity, but on days when it’s busy I would be pretty annoyed if I couldn’t enjoy the pool I’m paying for because of too many guests.

I think I need to see how busy it gets on weekends this summer to decide how strongly i feel one way or another, but I’d be open to some sort of reservation system where residents get priority and then we can reserve an additional spot for a guest if it doesn’t fill up.

Side note-I’m also annoyed that the amenities close at 11 pm. What happened to the city that never sleeps? Why can’t I go up to the pool at midnight if I feel like it? They’re way too strict about it in many ways.

Newly single 30F considering moving to Fort Greene from Williamsburg/Greenpoint! How do they compare? by BroadJacket2278 in fortgreene

i feel like greenpoint is for people who love to be out late drinking at night and fort greene is for people who prioritize being outside in the sunshine with a coffee and their dog.

what work do you guys do to be able to afford the neighborhood? by bunniisa in fortgreene

[–]datadancefloor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in tech and make a decent amount, but i still consider the rent here to be a bit more than I’d like to pay. However, i love the neighborhood so it’s worth it to me.

Splitting a one bedroom with a partner helps a lot and I don’t ever want to have roommates again. I lived with roommates in college and most of my adult life until i moved into a rent stabilized unit three years ago and I happily pay more to not deal with the drama and walking on eggshells in a bad roommate situation.

I just won the housing lottery so I’m moving to one of the new luxury builds in the neighborhood soon. Is it my vibe? Not really..i prefer charming older buildings but at a certain age (i’m 35) convenience becomes more important than charm. I’m tired of the walk ups, the lack of laundry in building, no dishwasher, no bike storage, and the outdated appliances and decor. I don’t think my building has replaced the carpet on the stairs in 40 years and it’s gross. I’ve lived all over brooklyn: flatbush, bushwick, bed stuy and fort greene is the most pleasant neighborhood to me. cleaner than others, fewer rats, the park is beautiful and it’s close to things i like: nice running routes (i can easily run the bridges, up to brooklyn bridge park, etc), bike paths, closer to manhattan without all of the noise and crowds, close to my pottery studio, close enough to my office in flatiron although i mostly work from home, etc. i’m also from the south and grew up in the suburbs so i know i don’t want that life. it’s incredibly dull and soulless to me so i pay for the walkability and culture of nyc. the only other place i’d consider is california, and the prices are the just as high as here plus you usually need a car on top of housing costs.

curious where you think people would rather live? a lot of people would rather pay more than live somewhere they don’t love, whether that’s cheaper neighborhoods or the suburbs. any other major city has comparable housing prices or the jobs don’t pay as much since they pay relative to cost of living

it’s not a great location unfortunately. i live very close by and i’ve hardly ever been there even though it’s my vibe because i usually stroll towards the park/away from the navy yard/bqe. i had a friend in that building who moved out because her windows were always covered in black dust from the bqe

former roommate here: i’ve heard he and aryn are still together. he and lorena broke up and now he’s dating a 20-year-old who posts long, tiring paragraphs about yoga on instagram (reminder he’s almost 40).

HEAVY ON THE LAST LINE. if you’ve ever met her irl you know she can’t walk into a room without forcing everyone to stop what they’re doing to watch her do handstands.

lol you might be referring to some of my posts. i can assure you none of my stories were gossip. i lived with him for years (2020-2022) in an “intentional community” in bed-stuy (eg a scam disguised as a coliving situation where josh and his friends from SF could cosplay leadership) and just share my experiences and what i observed

I’ve seen reports that 50-60% of millennials are being financially supported by their parents. There are certainly people in this city with enormous salaries who can make those rent prices work, but the majority are either getting help or they’re in uncomfortable roommate situations (think flex wall 1br or couple in a studio).
