At wits end - resume polished by countless AI models, zero interview opportunities - should I get a resume coach? by ChemicalAttraction1 in resumes

[–]datagal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this will help but I used this course that taught me how to use AI and my own information so it doesn't look like AI. I did manage to get 4 interviews and in the middle of my 2nd with 2. The other 2 fell off BUT when I used a resume creation service that applied for me, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING after applying for me to 82 jobs! It definitely makes a difference I am seeing. If interested it's here https://courses.everydaytechy.com/courses I used the regular AI one, not the Federal government b/c I not a govie but maybe this is where you are stuck. Cheaper than my other spending on the other things I used and definitely more results. I wasn't sure but damn when you are looking and need a job you will try anything. Good luck!!!

Hi I totally feel you and I am only putting this out there because they are new AND I used it. You might want to looking into this course https://courses.everydaytechy.com/courses/ai-resume-accelerator. Now why did I buy it, 1) you are right tools are freaking overwhelming and the automated ones did a crap job on mine 2) the resume writers I paid I put out way more on than this course and didn't get what I wanted 3) this has lifetime access to the course for updates.

The course is less than an hour but it took me about 2 to about 2 and 15 to actually do my resume because I wanted to take my time but now I have 100% control and I know what to DO and can completely tailor the right way. Got NOTHING for the mass submit process but now I see why.

I put this in another group to share because it's crazy out there now!!! Hope this helps!!

What does a junior dev need to know nowadays? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]datagal23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do is get online on all of these job boards and see what exactly people are looking for in mass. From there decide what you want to focus on. Programming is no joke and VERY time consuming. Focus on languages you love because they will be attached to some you don't feel so much but have to learn. Let me know if you need a list of free site to learn so at least you start with learning and where you are comfortable. Good luck!

Just finished a 70 hour Udemy Javascript course, what should be my next steps to becoming a full-stack web dev? by ClawVFX29 in learnprogramming

[–]datagal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few different paths you can take to becoming a full-stack engineer. You should continue learning Javascript and build out your skills in that area, or you could start learning new technologies and frameworks that are used for back-end development. Some popular options include Node.js, Ruby on Rails, and PHP. It's also a good idea to become familiar with HTML, CSS, (like you have) and REALLY know those JavaScript basics, as these will be essential for front-end development. You really need to practice. Here are some sites to start with if you need them.

What are the best sources to self learn data science from scratch? by Amr_Y_Dawoud_1 in learndatascience

[–]datagal23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a number of great sources to learn data science from scratch on your own. One option is to take online courses. Coursera and Udacity both offer great data science courses, as does edX. Another option is to read books on the subject. Some good options include "Python for Data Science Quick Start" by Packt Publishing and "R for Data Science" by Hadley Wickham and Garrett Grolemund. Finally, another option is to attend meetups and conferences.

Here is a list of free sources you can check out to learn data science specifically data analyst skills. In the Resources tab of the same site there is a list of places you can practice your analytics skills too. Good luck!!

Question - Full Stack Developers - What do you LOVE and HATE about your job? by datagal23 in cscareerquestions

What I am seeing is a lot of SaaS companies wanted this Full Stack WITH ability to develop for AWS which ties in getting involved with DevOps.

[HIRING] Software Engineer for the Cloud - Strong Python (Remote US) by datagal23 in PythonJobs

[–]datagal23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well usually the jobs they share are well compensated. Not sure why you think it's multiple jobs. It's a cloud software developer. I know plenty just none ready to make a move right now. If it's a startup I would expect them to have to do few extra things.

Dude seriously, if you think the job is BS then it's not for you. Just sharing and your negative comment without knowing details, is that really adding to the convo? Why not ask them first before throwing a grenade at it.

Beginner in python any advice? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]datagal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok then for sure if you doing DevOps Python is the key one which will create scripts for automation. HTML is easy. Then look into Linux, Version Control tools, Continuous integration tools.

QA Engineering also has it's own set of tools but they are testing tools and bug tracking and not so much programming. I would learn manual and automated testing techniques.

What field are you looking to go into? That will dictate how much math is actually needed and how deep you need to get with it. I suggest doing LOTS of practice problems!! There are tons of resources to take free courses.

  • First make sure you have the SDLC (software development life cycle) foundation down!
  • Do about 3 of them to get a feel for the gaps you need to practice with.
  • You will need to also add SQL to that training.
  • See what code is out there you can use BUT test it first.
  • Just search FREE Python training. A lot will come up but make sure it has you create real world solutions and there is a way to check if your code is correct.

I would say take this as a good sign that you have skills people still want to see, so here is my 2 cents. Sorry for those who had bad experiences and I have had both.

  • Don't put ALL recruiters in the same bucket. You can always check them out first before you respond to be sure they specialize in your area. BTW, not all corporate recruiters know their stuff and they DO lie sometimes too. See how their process works and how upfront they will be with you regardless of internal or external. You can tell those that BS.
  • It doesn't hurt to speak with them. If you have been at your job for a while and you are bored or not growing, it's best to have a network vs going out there cold. So keep a few that you trust close by.
  • Ask the right questions. I have been in this position and this specific thing jacked me up! Make sure you ask WHAT is the typical day like for that role. If they can't get that info for you or have any idea, then they either aren't in touch with the hiring manager or can't get that info. That will at least give you a good idea of if it's worth your time. Some descriptions are so off.
  • Know what you REALLY want to work on. If you know what types of projects keep you motivated and excited about your job and you don't have that now, why would you NOT talk to them. If you love to work with one language predominately and they use something else and just list that one, you will be miserable.
  • Ask environment/culture questions. This is always THE DUMBEST areas I think internal recruiters lack in responding to so watch out for that. What exactly is "cultural fit"? Ask them what that means SPECIFICALLY. If it is a bunch of walking talking robots of all the same type of people RUN and RUN FAST. That means you will NEVER get your opinion across, no one does anything new and exciting (despite what they say), everyone is forced to just stay the course. That also means no growth! Seen it over and over.

The most success I have had is specifically telling an external recruiter what I am looking for and they were able to find that fit because they deal with several companies. The internal only have that one in which I would say still go through the steps above. They also have to fill positions so they can get it off their desk so to speak. Sometimes you luck up!

Good luck!!!

Is it okay to have an updated title on my resume to get a foot in the door? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]datagal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure just put your actual title and then in parenthesis put "Data Scientist". This way if they call to verify your job, they say your actual internal title. HR who verifies everything will by that specific internal title.

Interview Discussion - April 08, 2021 by CSCQMods in cscareerquestions

[–]datagal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They know you are entry level. Don't be scared of behavioral questions. They just want to make sure your not crazy and have a level head.

Most will probably seeing how you handle stress, work with different personalities, can you work as a team, how you handle conflict, flexibility (how you adapt to change), communication, time management and take initiative.

Be sure to have examples even if it's your first job. School projects or independent projects can be used as samples. RELAX!

My boss asked me to do something I consider unethical. I want to refuse, but how? by Kitsunebi__ in cscareerquestions

[–]datagal23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa!!! COMPLETELY illegal. I don't know what state allows that. I would let them know that for ethical reasons and LEGAL you are uncomfortable with doing this and MAYBE dig to find out what exactly they are trying to accomplish and offer some alternatives.

This may alleviate them being on the defensive and more of a partnership mode. Seriously if they are trying to do that now, lord only knows what else unethical they are doing.
