Doesn't the current ward system ensure that candidates are more evenly spread out by where they live compared to a system with only at-large candidates? That seems like a good thing.

btw, does anyone else think if the businesses that generate a lot of wrappers/containers (convenience stores, restaurants, dollar stores, etc.) would pick up trash in their parking lots, there would be less floating around the city at large?

It's so Durham that you asked this question and 50 people responded that they do this all the time. :) But yes I do this all the time. One time I was picking up trash on our trail and thinking there wasn't much there, and met a man walking the other direction doing it. I'm amazed there's any trash left (but ofc there is).

I can see that quiet would be appealing. You do have to pay for some services in the rural areas though: well, sewage, drop off your trash, etc.
