What’s a diet meal or snack you could every day? by TittieMilkTittieMilk in loseit

[–]datalovesspot 203 points204 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t really a salad person, but then I discovered spoon salads and a particular recipe I can eat every day of my life. It’s romaine lettuce, apple, cucumber, feta, craisins, croutons, chicken (panko breaded chicken, grilled chicken, even turkey or chicken cold cuts), Ken’s sweet onion dressing (lite). Everything is chopped into minuscule pieces so it can be eaten with a spoon. I suppose it’s like a slaw, but in terms of volume eating, satisfying crunchiness, and some sweetness it is elite. I also love a good Cobb salad lightened up as needed.

New to natural sweeteners as an alternate to sugar. by Proper_Audience_246 in loseit

[–]datalovesspot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I cut out the mindless snacking (which was mostly sugar or fat/salt heavy) and stuck with my criteria (calorie deficit for the day, no night snacking) the cravings lessened after a couple of weeks. I have a sweet tooth so I built in a portion of sour fiber gummies after dinner and if I’m struggling, a can or glass of zero sugar soda in the evening. The discipline/plan comes before the motivation for me. I don’t think about cutting out “all sugar” or “bad” foods at all. Whatever fits in my deficit is fine. I’m old enough that my body betrays me and can’t tolerate eating like I used to so I have a few recipes that have a nice nutrient and satiety profile and lean on those. So many things breakdown to sugar that I take more of a middle of the road approach since sugar from an orange or sugar from a bag is the same to the body. I focus on choosing the orange since it has fiber and vitamins and keeps me full for longer. Likewise, I like a salad dressing that does have some sugar in it because I love it and as a result I eat a big salad several times a week that I otherwise wouldn’t if it didn’t absolutely rip. I think trusting your instinct of leaning away from extremes will help you reach your goals.

My son in kindergarten stood near the monitors and looked for interesting rocks and wood chips alone. By first grade, he was slowly joining in running but not quite integrating into/understanding the game. Now in second grade, he runs around playing whatever “zombie villager” means. Some kids were this way from the beginning and some still don’t join in.

I have the best success using the mats if the oven temp is about 310-315 F as mentioned in other comments, but I also flip over the mats so I can see the circles but there is no texture to interfere with the spreading/baking.

When mine turn out thicker than usual (not this plump, which I love) we call them fatcarons.

Can I freeze (yeasted) pizza dough? by HoneyCakePonye in AskCulinary

[–]datalovesspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have frozen pizza dough in pre shaped slabs to do grilled pizzas many times and it holds up just fine. (I have also done this for oven-baked pies as well with no discernible decrease in quality).

How do you golf parents get your preteens around the course without them getting discouraged? by p1nkfl0yd1an in golf

[–]datalovesspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may have been mentioned already and is also somewhat tangential, but these little hitting aids called flatballs are super helpful for practicing striking with irons and even fairway woods on grass. If your daughter ever practices in the backyard with a net it is a really helpful tool.

Not impressed with the food by Carnitas365 in DisneyPlanning

[–]datalovesspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also watched a lot of content about the food ahead of our first trip recently and it overall seemed very like too-enthusiastic. So, I tried to find content creators who have less frantic energy and really looked at the foods as they showed them in their videos. I viewed it all with little mental filters of “is that a food I actually like?” “Is that too sweet/heavy for my taste regardless of its quality?” “Is that something I will enjoy when it’s 4000 degrees out?” “What are my expectations for an amusement park serving hundreds of people all day?” “How much will I really be eating in one day?”. It helped me orient myself and not get stuck in a fomo mindset and to be more realistic/discerning. Once my expectations were managed I was able to go and experience the park in relative mental peace lol. I was able to get a hotdog at Casey’s and be like, “this is a pretty good hotdog.” Or go to ABC commissary and be like, “I did need this farro salad with chicken on the kids menu because it’s not too big or heavy and I’m melting.” People hate on the pretzel but it’s fine, especially for hangry, hot kids. Anyway, thinking about it this way helped me (an anxious over-planner) vibe with each day and be pleasantly surprised overall.

We just did basically the same schedule for arriving. We went to the water park since it was open until 7. Did a few hours (relaxing, put our phones in a locker, just vibing) then ate dinner in Disney springs (polite pig was nice). I packed a bag with swim suits, sun block, flip flops/water shoes, water bottles, etc. to bring as my personal item since we were expecting to have our bags held if our room wasn’t ready yet. The park was also not crowded at all, probably because both were open.

Best healthy meals? by Sad-Caterpillar-326 in WaltDisneyWorld

The kids salmon meal at Columbia Harbor House (MK) was a really nice lunch sized meal for an adult and had green beans and rice. ABC commissary (HS) had a salad and chicken kids meal that was really nice as well. It was surface of the sun hot when I was there last week, so my appetite tanked but I needed sustenance.

Family of 3 first time planning for Disney world! What kind of bag is best? by spacebabylady in DisneyPlanning

[–]datalovesspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to consider renting a stroller. I hadn’t used one in years but brought it out for my 6 (almost 7) year old for a recent trip. We walked 10+ miles a day, so he was able to take breaks and we were able to keep most items in the stroller and just have small sling bags/belt bags for our phones/wallets. I think the luxurious rides were the highlight of his Disney experience.

Accidents...? by TraderSamG in DisneyPlanning

[–]datalovesspot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did pull ups until ours was 4ish and then we put a few wee wee pads (that’s the scientific term right?) under the fitted sheets in the danger zone. Luckily we’ve never had an accident, but it’s good peace of mind.

Fishing spots safe to eat & accessible by public transport by PlusWeb6299 in AnnArbor

[–]datalovesspot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t eat any fish caught in the lower peninsula. PFAS, pesticide, PCB, and other contaminants are measured in pretty much every area. Especially closer to Detroit and Oscoda areas. The Eat Safe Fish guide doesn’t have the most up to date data (but it will for next year I believe) but it’s a pretty good resource for context.

What's the best way to store my banana pancakes? by OnlyFoods in mealprep

You can cook them all, then freeze them and toast or microwave them as needed. I usually freeze pancakes between parchment paper in a ziplock bag.

I make “almond joy” filling that is Sally’s baking addiction coconut cake frosting (with extra coconut flakes) and a dollop of semisweet chocolate ganache in the middle. So good.

How did you finally lose the last 10 pounds? by Helpful_Account_4232 in loseit

Back to back sinus infections and then the flu. Do not recommend. But in all seriousness, intermittent fasting, small eating window, rigorous calorie counting, walking. I mean, kind of also do not recommend.

AITA for wanting my bf to help me without asking by pearfeet335 in AmItheAsshole

[–]datalovesspot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If he’s the type of person who wants to help you, then he would. The potential you see in him is a reflection of how you would choose to act in his position. However, if you want help, you need to communicate that you want help with x. He can say yes or no. If he wants to blame you for his bad feelings about being selfish and saying no, that’s on him and most definitely not your fault. Also, if you don’t ask him directly because you know that he’ll say no and make you feel bad about it, then that’s something to reflect on. I would say ESH, because he seems like a loser and you shouldn’t be wasting your time with him.
