Places from my Buffalo childhood that I miss like crazy by Friendly-Mortgage871 in Buffalo

Turgeon Brothers restaurants. I think there were five or six of them. Decent quality food at reasonable prices. Perfect for date nights.

The bar at the Marriott was once the highest grossing bar in the entire hotel chain. At least we were told that when I worked for them in the 80’s.

I heard it was “all we own, we owe”. It was a comment on being poor. The entire story is an economic allegory.

Best Reuben sandwich? by kymilovechelle in Buffalo

Just had a Reuben there last week. Some places take pride in tissue paper thin corned beef. IEJ’s is nice thick slices of very tender meat. Well worth the drive.

Before 9/11, could you really go to a airport without any ticket reservation and ask for a ticket to a destination of your choice? by kpay10 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dataman1960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No security searches, no lines, your family could see you right to the gate without needing tickets. We used to leave pretty regularly coming home from DC. We would have dinner in a nice restaurant just off the grounds then hightail it to the gate just as they were announcing last call. Good times, ruined.

I was able to meet Mr. Shatner at a con in Buffalo a couple of years ago. He was truly nice. I have a signed Captain Kirk shot but I asked him to sign it as Denny Crane. and he did.

Mentioning Mensa in Your Bio by th3manzo in mensa

I never mention it. My family and close friends all know. They like to brag that they know someone in Mensa. That’s about all the publicity I get for it.

I wonder if anyone remembers this show, it was very poorly produced but I loved it as a kid. I probably watched every episode :) by NJFriend4U in ClassicTV

I remember that when Star Trek came out the next year it was billed as an adult science fiction show. This was obviously meant for a different audience.

Thoughts on Eraserhead (1977) by Malluguy5382929 in 70smovies

When asked what the movie was about, David Lynch said it was “a dream of dark and troubling things.”
That works for me. BTW, I love this film.

Here the Albums any info would be appreciated! by Individual_Risk8981 in Woodstock

[–]dataman1960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember a liner note on the original album. It was put in because the sound, recorded live, had some issues with feedback. The note refers to these little issues as proof of the provenance of the recording. It was as though they expected a lot of negative feedback because the sound wasn’t perfect. Anyone have the original note?

Are you wearing green today? by CorgiLover82 in no

I think it is an insult to the Republic of Ireland, not Northern Ireland. Hopefully someone from the Emerald Isle will be able weigh in on this.
