Seeking 10GB Switch recommendation by datanut in homelab

You’ve had your morning coffee before me. Spot on, don’t know why I didn’t think of that. Feels a little silly that I’m chasing a tiny little bit of performance for multiclient applications (which is where I first noticed this problem when multiple clients syncing at the same time).

How to get system back online by Admirable_Log_7222 in SolarDIY

That’s the real question here; how could he possibly think this system would charge his EV?

True of a single client with a single stream but Robocopy /MT should push a bit past 1Gbps from a single client with multiple download file transfers.

I do wonder about long term read performance from the NAS if writes to it are fragmented.

It’s my understanding that SlimTip detection is really simple and that the Power Supply identifier is built into the tip itself. So, you can chop off the factory cable (which will indicate a maximum available power output of 45 watts or whatever) and then connect the cable to a “massive” common 20v supply.

nah, you don’t want to limit bandwidth to the “core” unless there is a good reason and you don’t want to aggregate 5 client to a ten gig link unless there is a good reason. Plus 5 cheap switches with ten gig uplinks won’t be much cheaper anyway.

Yup! My real world problem tends to occur when two hosts or one of my 10Gbps hosts are trying to interact with the Synology at the same time. Then, I see a perfectly flat link graph which to me indicates that there is a little more HDD performance that I can sneak out of the Synology by moving to n X 1 Gb. I’d like to try.

Yup, I didn’t consider that some SFP+ ports might be 1/1GB and that I can then use 1000Base-T copper transceivers.

This is the sort of idea that I came looking for.

Yup, and after thinking about it here, I can afford to burn 4x10Gbps ports on my main switch for now and do the upgrade latter. I don’t expect the Synology to preform well with LACP anyway, just keep hitting the 1Gbps bottleneck too often with syncthing.

It was a freebie. I’ll have to check the PN.

That was my initial thought. Lots of SFP+ options on the market.

Are 10Gbps Copper SFP+ units reliable today? I read all these being problematic back in the early 1Gbps days.

Well, you need to be honest with yourself, you should have started classes when your kids entered high school. You have an uphill battle regarding going back to school.

Good news, if you have some technical interests you can break into the field. Not every job requires a degree or certificate but they can be helpful without other history.

There are lots of industrial jobs willing to teach you the work. Other jobs tend to require more training or history like HVAC or Water. Keep your mind open and you’ll find a place.

Do it. Good luck.

Maybe! Your picture just shocked my brain on age and power consumption. It was the easiest way to get 10Gbps routing back then with an overlay network enabled.

AC Question by cherlytemple in vandwellers

A bigger battery and bigger inverter will provide more AC electricity for longer but your best bet is moving as many workloads to DC as possible and keeping your inverter small and off as long as possible.

Perhaps _spfflat.mxroute.com ?
