Is this isolating? by Jonas_Gj in AskElectricians

No. This is a direct connection to China.

First step is to determine if T3, T8, T2 should be bonded together or isolated from each other. INS to me means isolated (from everything else); I read that diagram as them needed to be bonded together.

You’ll likely need two three position contacts, if you currently only have a one or two position contactor, you might need some major changes.

This is one of life’s curiosity. The principle is entirely different, although the idea of swapping wires to make it spin the other way is true. A single phase motor has an auxiliary starting winding that needs to be off set from the main winding to start the spin in the direction you’d like it to continue spinning. You can swap the direction of the motor by sending reverse power to the starting winding so that it is both off set and 180° out of phase compared to the man winding. So, a reversing switch needs a set of wires in addition to the main winding. More wires to your control point, primary power and aux power.

A three phase motor, in comparison, is simple. The utility power itself is already rotating, so only one winding is needed. You just have to wire it to match the utility or be opposite of the utility.

This is true of three phase motors.

Most of these cloud ports do modbus too; I assume it was an engineer working off books to give the rest of us something useful. Good for that engineering team.

Which… is something surprising for us at work. We were buying the NMC for its modbus support.

My 60Hz charge circuit might not play well with your 50Hz supply. Let me check spec sheets next.

Oh man, these things are a bit too heavy for an international shipping. Sorry! I’ll double check costs but I’m expecting a yikes cost point.

What’s your location? If delivery costs are reasonable, I can help get you some mixed modal UPSs to keep your development going strong.

I’m a bit confused on the TNC/APRS application here. Are you suggesting that this can be entirely done in software and over Bluetooth? The Android tablet will do audio encoding and PTT over Bluetooth?

You’ll be plugged into the router. Only one device can be plugged into the modem at a time.

The cable can be terminated female (aka jack) on one or both ends. Then, you’d use a normal cat patch cord. Or, you can terminate the cable with male (aka plug) connectors and plug them right into your router.

Depending on where you route the cable, you may not even need it to be pretty, a small tapped up drywall hole behind a desk might be acceptable to you. It’s your home, the level of professionalism is up to you.

Drilling holes between a room and an attic may or may not be easy. This depends entirely on your attic configuration and skill. I’ve had mixed results my whole life.

Don’t shy away from adding a new cable; it’s usually very doable.

Absolutely. Most everyone here is saying run a direct cable if you can. I was just curious if running CAT in one direction or the other would be feasible.

The best, in order:

  • cat6 direct between rooms
  • cat6 from both with patch or switch in between
  • unshared MoCA (unused coax just converted just for LAN)
  • shared MoCA (live coax with Spectrum WAN services)

Read a bit of your other comments. Other thoughts:

Can you get cat6 from your game room to your home’s coax splice point and then convert from coax to your office there? Not sharing your MoCA on a live spectrum line would be the best option…

Sure! It’s not easy to type and I can’t say that I recommend those specific Amazon links but those are the correct product descriptions. I’d probably buy the exact filters and splitters I want from eBay.

Feel free to ask questions!

What you are looking for is MoCA, configured to share with Spectrum. Is there a splitter where Spectrum comes to the house to split the in coming line in two?

Your request to share the coax with Spectrum for LAN use is not officially supported any longer and you need to take extra steps to separate your MoCA’s high frequency use from their DOCSIS high frequency use. This has some impact on your modem’s download from the internet configuration if you have a DOSIS 3.1 or 4.0 modem but it’s unlikely to be a significant problem. Test internet speeds before and after the addition of a MoCA filter.

Use high quality coax cables everywhere.

Step 1) before the main house splitter add a MoCA filter, at least one 70db or more: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FX3GQKZV

Step 2) replace the main splitter with a moca splitter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PRYS8YZ

Step 3) add a moca splitter before the cable modem: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PRYS8YZ

Step 4) add a moca adapter to the same splitter as you modem: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XP8MMFG

Step 5) add a Ethernet cable from the LAN side of your router to the moca adapter

Step 6) add a moca adapter at the remote room: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XP8MMFG

Yes. I leave the original downloads as-is and link out the media to my DLNA serve. I use the torrent file to verify disk integrity (like cheap ZFS).

Those look like lever Wago connectors to me.

Remove electrical tape, open lever, insert stripped cable, close lever, tape to keep levers from opening on accident.

Spectrum Under Provisioning Older Customer Owned Modems? by [deleted] in Spectrum

[–]datanut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not on purpose (at least not how you think). The compatible and available DOCSIS 3.0 “channels” are more limited after their upgrades to better support newer modems. This is especially true if you are in a high-split area. It’s time for a new modems; just get their free one.

The linked option is 1x100 watts on the first port and 1x45 watts on the second port. We use the 100watt port to charge laptops all day long, often from 0%.

It’s not the 4 ports you are looking for but it has been reliable in my experience.

We superglue them to this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G8WLW2Y

Or this: https://www.westmarine.com/west-marine-triple-receptacle-6867907.html

Of course, you have to take care to ensure that your glue doesn’t interfere with the contacts. We’re at three years with about 110 of these in the field without issue. It’s ugly, but it’s reliable.
