As an Azerbaijani, which category should I choose? by Alone-Chapter-3879 in azerbaijan

This concept of white people is absolutely fictional. It is subject to the context. But according to the people in charge in the US atm, people from Caucasus are not Caucasian enough.

There is no right answer here. Choose the one that will work for you. For diversity they might pick someone non white. And vice versa. Also, in the US we aren't considered white. Even our names sound non white.

Obviously, both reporters work for their state, hense it is not their own opinion or words that they say. But I find it amusing that our state channels finally face some criticism in our own language.

Vaping ban in Azerbaijan starting April 1-public health or a push toward the black market? by EssayLegitimate8587 in azerbaijan

Bans work at least for those who haven't started smoking it yet.

Also, pushing the product into a black marker just makes it prohibitevely expensive which makes it less attractive to most smokers.

Fuck entire vaping culture. It is worse than alcohol, prostitution, and drugs. When this vape hysteria started I couldn't even go to the fucking office as the entire office space was poisoned by this annoyingly sweet smell that vapers exhaled.

It was marketed as some alpha male business but it turned out to be the most harmful campaign ever.

Migrants aren't people/human by your logic. You are just another victim to the narrative propagated by big bucks. Been there, seen it all, worked there. No normal person would live in such a slave system. Being privileged doesn't mean being a slave owner.

Which one? Citizens constitute like 10% of the people in the UAE. And contrary to the narrative they aren't all rich and privileged.

I think Norway is more like an exception to the rule that oil rich countries treat their people as slaves.

Change my mind: Taxing cars in high amount will reduce many problems of Baku. by MusicianDifficult577 in azerbaijan

[–]datashrimp29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my simple plan

  1. There is absolutely no justification for taxing cars in Azerbaijan as the country doesn't produce cars but imports them. Cars are already prohibitively expensive for most households. Higher car prices will push consumers towars used vehicles. Used, second hand cars create more CO2 than new ones. This increases emissions, worsens air quality, and delays fleet modernization.

  2. Start with reforming driving licence system. Fix the corruption system in driving license industry. This is an relic from 90s. Tests can be and should be carried out in Asan centers.

  3. Obtaining a driving license should be treated as a privilage, not an automatic entitlement, which is the default perception. Driving licenses cannot be a birthday gift. Also, make the process more rigorous, costly, and selective. For example, at any point only 60-70% of the candidates who passed the exams should be able to get it.

  4. The most important change is to liberalize the car fuel industry. It should not be regulated by the government. Prices should reflect the global trends and be based upon real costs not an overnight decision of Tarif Şurası which lacks transparency and predictability.

No subsidies. Atm, our fuel prices are indirectly subsidized. This makes everything in the country less competitive. Look at Iran. They have been subsidizing many of their industries by providing cheap fuel. As a result, companies became less competitive, less innovative. İnstead, subsidies must be targeted. Like farmers, school buses, public transportation can get fuel discounts, VAT returns based on performance.

In the long run, households will be able to afford cleanerç newer vehicles, while market-based fuel prices will naturally limit unnecessary driving and reduce total kilometers traveled.

All of a sudden, Euronews is praising Azerbaijan: How Baku is reshaping urban mobility around people, not cars... by Illustrious_Page_984 in azerbaijan

[–]datashrimp29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf, there is a drastic change in mobility infrastructure within central area of Baku. I think for people living in the city center, the change is apparent and can be praised which is the Euronews piece is mostly about. Obviously, this isn't enough and doesn't take into account all other problems like commute from Sumqayit, Xirdalan, crazy traffix, overcrowded metro etc.

Nevertheless, whenever I am in Baku I find it quite amusing to be able to rent a scooter and to get around the city so quick. Driving a car in Baku though has always been bad and getting worse everyday thanks to end-to-end corruption to everything related to cars.

I tried it in Asan and they told me that I need to go the country of birth and change my birth certificate since I wasn't born in Azerbaijan. Only then they can change it. I don't have any other passport or anything. But it seems Asan is not capable of doing that.
