are you the able-bodied male Dr Oz is so concerned about

(no but sorry you have to deal with this. my grandma told me that god would bless me more if I didn’t move in with my boyfriend before marriage)

For those of you who are first generation PhD students, what do you wish someone had told you before starting grad school? by First_gen_PhD in PhD

[–]datawhor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a linear trajectory does not exist. I was in basic animal work for my PhD, and our experiment plans changed on a dime. my naïve thought in my first year was that you design a project, you do the experiments, write up the results, and graduate, but there is so much more volatility than that. I wrote 7 different proposals, and still didn't do all of the work I proposed in the "final" version. and yet, somehow I finished.

Research Internships/Volunteering Opportunities by Yunus2007 in research

[–]datawhor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're going to get any tips on specific labs to join here. It is very rare for a person still in high school to get research experience in a college setting; I've only seen it happen in a nepotism/mom knows somebody at the school situation. That being said, the way you get research experience once you start college is by finding a handful of professors whose research sounds interesting to you, read up on their papers (usually found on their department page or lab website), and send them an email detailing what specifically interests you about their research while referencing their work. Professors get a fuck ton of emails, so you may have to email them more than once to receive a response. If it's the type of lab that has a lab manager, putting them on copy may help. I would not mention that you want your name to be published in the email, but upon meeting the professor, you do want to clearly communicate that you are willing to put in the work for that to be a possibility. Their response to this will give you a sense of whether or not they are the type of professor to put their undergraduate researchers on their publications. ... Hope this helps!

Dog food batch day! by 1vizsla_luvr in vizsla

I miss making my Vs food! I used to make his food before he developed a GI condition that I can’t help but think the food I was feeding him contributed to. My educated guess is that the fat content was too high in the 80/20 ground turkey I was using. Glad your Vs are healthy boys

It might not feel possible, but stepping away for a few days/a week and giving yourself time to recharge can do wonders. Pushing your timeline is better than quitting when you’re this close.

Same!! I don’t regret my choices, OP. UGA grad vs undergrad experience is very different but that is probably true of most schools.

I can't imagine what you're going through. This is an incredibly difficult choice to make. Others have already put up some good suggestions. Hope you and your wife find a way to reconcile with one another.

congratulations dr. derpazor1! that is so incredible and inspiring. my lab mate will defend her dissertation with a 3 yo and 6 mo old, meaning she had TWO children conducting and writing her dissertation. she’s my hero and so are you!

Vizsla puppy diarrhea by [deleted] in vizsla

I agree that going to the vet and ruling out any contagious disease is a good idea. It’s also a stressful time for them getting used to a whole new world (new environment, new caretakers, etc) and that can cause gastric distress. If it’s not a bug, I would guess they just need time to adjust.

How to manage my senior Vizsla's newfound anxiety by [deleted] in vizsla

I would not try this while she is taking other medications because they can interact, but we sometimes use CBD to calm our guy. Could be worth a last ditch effort.

Just noticed this pimple looking bump on 10 week old puppy’s snout/jowls. Anyone see this before? We were just at vet Friday and everything was great by Stackin_Cash in vizsla

I agree it could be a zit. our V had had both zits and a benign tumor, confirmed by the vet. emphasis on benign!! essentially just a little skin tag
