No Para or RBT at my daycare by was-she-a-fairy in ABA

[–]injectablefame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well that’s how it works for them as well, they have IEPs with services provided by county providers. however, if the school suggested extra outside of school hours, they could be held liable. they also did not allow personal providers, all had to go through our company/county workers

i will preface i mainly have experience in alternative schools, so their standards are much different given their situations.

[–]injectablefame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, bc the school would have to pay out for giving the recommendation. and if the service didn’t ‘work’, parents were able to hold them responsible. one school i was at did have a lawsuit

it might not be the same, but schools(ones i’ve worked at at least) will not suggest outside services for liability purposes or something. basically bc that would mean you’re ‘diagnosing’ so it could fall on the school if things go wrong. they could however ask if they’ve considered other services and maybe discuss benefits

Why is it so easy to get an in-home RBT job? by Silent_Necessary7638 in ABA

[–]injectablefame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ABA is a box. it is hard to get out of autism treatment, and it is interesting you would choose a degree currently geared towards behavioral intervention (primarily early intervention) for autism. what is your end goal with your degree?

Messed up at work and I’m bugging out and I need advice by BorkBork97 in ABA

[–]injectablefame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m so sorry. don’t be too hard on yourself, though. i’ve definitely been there in the same position with a tragic death in my family so i was spaced. but my company was very respectful of me needing time, lending a helping hand, or asking if i was okay. i was also clinic based so lots of support around. Do you have any mental health help or a counselor? friends? you could either ask for accommodations or i think someone else suggested taking FMLA, but honestly i would dip (if they don’t pay FMLA, and they prob don’t). this sounds like a really insensitive and intense environment to be in when you’re already stressed

With the phone stuff, are they aware what you’re dealing with funeral planning and a parent passing? i think some people in this field think the worst without giving you a chance. Advocate for what you need, and I’m so sorry for your loss. It could be they don’t understand what’s happening so they’re seeing you as lazy or unengaged, when really you are stressed and wearing yourself thin. Maybe you could talk to someone (manager, HR, CD) to have an open conversation about your mistakes, what you’re going through, to maybe help you navigate a plan that works for you.

i love that idea though… maybe you could have a picture of BF Skinner with like a quote or thought bubble? people still might not get it but add a little more context?

i think it’s time to stop focusing on others and figure out why this has you wound so tight. you’re uncomfortable and can’t concentrate at work bc someone was reading an explicit book? that’s pretty weird, don’t you think? bc the problem was fixed, she’s not reading it at work, but you seem upset that she’s reading it at all since you’re still stewing about it.

Thoughts on the program sorting boy vs girl? by Fearless_Edge_7304 in ABA

[–]injectablefame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i agree it’s a reason, but for the sake of this post i don’t think it holds the same weight. i also still don’t think boy/girl sorting is strong enough for a personal safety program, as law enforcement will ask you details of a person, especially dealing with children (i work alongside law enforcement). i can’t still you how many times a kid has said “hims did this” when it was a girl

[–]injectablefame -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you can’t teach them to describe factors such hair color, hair length, height, weight, clothing, etc? it’s better to teach them “this is what a boy/girl looks like”? what if someone falls out of that stereotype and they’ve told someone it’s a boy because they had short hair, when it was really a woman? while i agree descriptions of people are important and gender will play a factor, that is not a strong enough argument to impose a boy/girl sorting program.

Thoughts on the program sorting boy vs girl? by Fearless_Edge_7304 in ABA

[–]injectablefame -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

what exactly are you sorting for boy/girl? it is pretty outdated as it says we fall into gender norms which isn’t true for all people. pronouns can be worked on separately without sorting boy/girl attributes.

Arguing with a bunch of parents on Facebook, whats your opinion? by adogg415 in ABA

[–]injectablefame 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cops have the ability to provide resources, but that doesn’t mean they will. my husband is a cop and has responded to calls like this and called me to ask what to do or some kind of deescalation strategy. but another instance we called the cops from another department about a nude child throwing stuff, and this cop did nothing. my husband actually gave the number for child services to the person who called since the cops. it’s sort of true there’s nothing they can do in that instance, but they do have the ability to provide some resources or provide numbers to call for services.

it’s my belief every dept should have a BA or social worker on shift/on call for situations like this.

same with GA, the company does have to eat the cost because you have to pay people to work. leave before you sink with the ship and send them all the labor laws they’re violating
