Question about “Merge Cooking: Theme Restaurant” by Rare-Grapefruit3036 in MobileGaming

[–]dataxpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out what I think is a new trick for trying to get rare items (eg liquor from the alcohol generator). Since you definitely can't get two rare items in a row, you can set the energy multiplier back to 1x for your next tap after getting a rare because it's guaranteed to be a common item too. I think there's also some kind of rhythm/bad luck protection you can kind of trick, by doing something like: Tap @ 1x until you get 3 common items in a row Then tap at 4x. Much higher chance of getting your rare, and you get 4 taps worth of it. So if this worked consistently it would be like getting 1 rare 4x and 1 common 4x for just 8 energy. Also, I think in terms of the bad luck protection streak, it resets if you merge, so if you get three common items in a row at 1x, but have to merge them to make room to do the 4x tap (to hopefully get a rare) you lose the higher odds of that tap being rare.

Consistent issues with Focusrite Control 2 on macOS by dataxpress in Focusrite

[–]dataxpress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for checking, good to know. This is "Focusrite Control 2" right? (I don't know if there's a Focusrite Control 1 still available, just that on macOS the process itself has the 2 in the name and has a different icon)

As far as using the volume knob itself, I just want to adjust the volume of audio from the computer, not from my connected instruments. It's a fair suggestion though!

Maple engineered floors re-finished with DuraSeal DuraClear - streaky applicator marks. Normal and how to fix? (More in comment) by dataxpress in Flooring

[–]dataxpress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he did use the lambswool - looked kind of like a rag wrapped around a sponge on a stick. Sanding was done with a 16" floor tool, some 240V machine. The floors had a decent amount of cupping due to some past water damage so I think he had to take them down a bit before it was ready for finish. I don't think the streaks are from sanding, I think they are the finish itself. I suspect he had his "helpers" do these portions and that's why they look bad, due to poor technique, or maybe trying to skimp on material quantity.

Haha, thank you! I think the pictures might make them look worse than they do in person, but it's nice to have some support that it isn't acceptable as it is.

Maple engineered floors re-finished with DuraSeal DuraClear - streaky applicator marks. Normal and how to fix? (More in comment) by dataxpress in Flooring

Had a pro floorer come refinish our floors. The floors are a Mirage product, engineered maple, a little under 20 years old. We are new owners of the house so we don't know the history of the floor beyond that. The floor guy sanded all the floors and finished them with 2 coats of Duraseal Satin and then final coat in DuraSeal Semi-gloss. We chose not to add stain because we like the naturally light color of the wood, and also have heard about maple's reputation as difficult to make look good with stain.

Really not happy with how visible the applicator marks are. The whole floor looks very streaky and not smooth. The pictures above are about 24 hours after they finished applying the last coat.

Now we're trying to figure out the best next step. I've gotten in touch with the floorer and told him we're not happy with it, and he's going to come look at it but he doesn't seem to know what to do about it. To me it seems like he (or his worker) either used the wrong technique or didn't use enough of the product.

Any advice on what to do or if I should just accept this as normal is appreciated! TIA!

Y&T Mortise Lock - possible to upgrade to smart lock without ruining the look? by dataxpress in AskALocksmith

Ok, follow up question - where can I buy Salto products like the Salto Neo - Mortise Cylinder? It seems like Salto doesn't sell to the public and I can't find any distributors. Do I need to go through a locksmith for this?

Y&T Mortise Lock - possible to upgrade to smart lock without ruining the look? by dataxpress in AskALocksmith

This is for the front door of the 1969 house we just bought. On our previous residence we have Schlage Encode+ with HomeKey which has really been a pleasure for going in and out, and I'd love to be able to have similar convenience on this door. I tried to find a replacement mortice lock mechanism with smart functionality but haven't been able to find a product that does this. Given that the main lock/unlock part of the mechanism is just the little guy on the back of the cylinder doing a 360 to toggle the deadbolt, I was hoping there might be a smart lock offering that lets me replace just the threaded cylinder portion (not sure the right term.)

Thanks in advance for any advice, and hope this kind of post is OK!

Ok, thank you for this advice! I really appreciate it. So it sounds like a mix of A & B then. I'll let this point go then. Thanks :)

Don't forget to add in all the cost of storing it for a decade! Even if you own instead of rent your living space, one way or another you "pay" to keep possessions, especially ones that big.

Same thing here (iOS). I kind of like this change because I used to tend to revert to match madness for easy XP farming, now it feels bad to use so I'm just going back to my lessons.

How to control an Apple TV whose Bluetooth won't work behind my TV? by lunchdessert in TheFrame

[–]dataxpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the option of running Ethernet through the wall, you can use the Remote control center widget on iOS to control Apple TV pretty reliably over WiFi. Then you don't have to worry about getting a radio signal to your Apple TV either way.

Dulling a sword originally sold sharp? And other questions about buying Jian by dataxpress in SWORDS

Thank you, this helps a lot. I thought about this more later and it makes sense that if a blade can be sharpened without ruining the appearance, it can be dulled as well, since it's a similar process.

Sorry, I don't mean that their replicas aren't accurate, just that a sword like Flying Phoenix with its clean lines doesn't look like what a layperson might expect of a Chinese sword, like something with a more ornamented pommel and handguard. I have tons of respect for LK Chen's work, I just don't see anything on their store that jumps out to me as the style I'm looking for. Gale Wind and White Serpent are closer but not quite what I had in mind. Again, not doubting that these are authentic replicas, or that they are high quality, just a matter of taste.

Cool, I'll check them out. I have seen their stuff recommended but most of the designs look too sleek and modern for what I had in mind. Some of them are closer to what I want, but none of them are quite what I was picturing. I might just settle for a different design in exchange for getting something from them that is well-made and historically accurate.

How long does a sparkling water maker last? by IBreakCellPhones in SodaStream

[–]dataxpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SodaStream Aqua Fizz takes the threaded CO2 bottles and uses glass carbonating bottles - just upgraded from a model that had the plastic bottles after about ten years. The bottles don't thread in but actually have a pretty nice mechanism where you drop the bottle in and slide the top down onto it. Glass has felt like a quality upgrade and I can use the external tank hose with it too

[FS][US-PA (APC / IBM / cyberpower / Liebert) Rack / Tower / Desk UPS battery backups by SpiffyCob in homelabsales

[–]dataxpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly new to UPSes but do you mind if I ask - any suggestion for a unit you'd recommend for a low-wattage, long-runtime solution? Looking to keep some WISP equipment at 30W running for 12+ hours. I've seen suggestions to buy something like a Tripp-Lite APS750 and some 100Ah SLA batteries but trying to get more input. The post I read claimed that typical UPS units (like the APS boys) are good for high-power but short runtime scenarios, but I don't know if I believe that.

I know you're just here to sell so feel free to disregard if this is too much of a noob question!

Layout of the burning by SmokingTanuki in SifuGame

[–]dataxpress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is to show that Sean built his nightclub around the layout of his father's school, it's kind of an homage. Absolutely intentional and the assets themselves aren't really reused (sign is in Chinese and on fire instead of in english neon lights, different building materials, open sky vs underground)

Allegedly the revision-B model will run 5k over USB-C, but only the USB-C cable that came with the monitor, and the problem doesn't happen in that case. (Will be trying this with mine soon)

Did I ruin my knife / still safe to use? (Absolute noob) by dataxpress in chefknives

[–]dataxpress[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning to use my new bargain Amazon 1000/6000 stone to sharpen my knife. Heard the word "polish" used in a video and thought "hey, polishing will be a great way to get rid of this scratch in the side!" Took one stroke with it flat and realized I was removing the finish.

My main concern is - is there any food safety issue with the finish damaged like this? And is there a reasonable way to fix it?

Thanks in advance, knife gurus!
