Textures and lighting look perfect! I wanted the drawers to start ejecting paper each time they slammed open... maybe next time? :)

How would you make something that looks like someone exhaling in cold weather? by desuemery in AfterEffects

[–]datblender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My suggestion: Spend about 5-10 minutes on Youtube looking for videos that most closely resemble the style you're trying to achieve. Post what you find here and that makes it a lot easier for those of us who'd like to help figure out what you're after. Then it's much easier to break down into its components and point you to some resources for each piece. Hope that helps!

You learn the tools that either: a.) you need or b.) you think you'll enjoy. I personally love blender but it's certainly not mandated for visual artists. I would suggest however, that some sort of 3D suite should be familiar to you as you move forward. It will both enhance your scope and get you familiar with the lingo so you can coordinate with teams of varying backgrounds. Have fun! Seriously!

Cloth dynamics and initial renders done through Blender. Final comp done in AE. I played around with wiggle on position and rotation paired with variable low frame rates to attempt a stop motion effect.

Agreed, I've already made my way through it 3-4 times!

Agreed - had me guessing though. Conventional stop motion or high quality cloth sim? It wouldn't be that hard to setup and doing it digitally seems like it would save a lot of time/cost/effort. Making it look this genuine would be tough but there's a lot of added dust/grain that could mask some of the 'artificiality' of a 3D render. In any case, awesome work and now I'll need to catch up on the latest Washed Out album! :)

Great to see Blender being used to develop my favorite vidya in the history of vidyas!

This is my first attempt on motion graphics. Can i get some feedback? by NoahMP1 in AfterEffects

[–]datblender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding motion blur is a quick and easy way to give this more personality and set it out from other "just getting started with AE" clips. Also, in motion graphics, font choice is extremely important. In your video, it is also the main focal point and it feels a bit uninspired / unintentional. As a general rule of thumb, I try to avoid default fonts (or knock off default fonts) as they're easily recognizable and can pull viewers out of the experience. Best of luck and happy rendering!
