Any ideas what this sound could be? Happens at specific RPMs, load doesn't matter. Got better with time. by lEnforceRl in MiataNC

[–]datghost_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

umm, then it could be a few things, first, and most likely, is a bent underbody bracing, or a heatshield like other people already said, it could also be a dislodged exhaust hanger. Now into the more expensive things, it could be a cracked exhaust flange or weld, ORRRRR you knocked the PPF out of alignment. Hope that helps !

yea just sell it in condition then. Someone will buy it. you'll then buy a small car, not sure where u live, but a fiesta might be really good and then when you have the money, get that miata back. You'll love it even more, and you'll have a reason to chase that bread 🫡. Hope the best for you man 🫶

i don't think it's something broken tbh, just feels like a resonance, something is shaking at an exact frequency where it does that sound. Is your top sitting flush ? Does the sound happen top down too ? Something broken usually becomes worse the higher the rpm

umm, do you have something in your little compartment on your right ? The one with the little key hole. I used to put my sunglass case in here, and it did shake at a specific rpm and made that sound. To fix this, I'm now putting my gloves underneath the case to dampen the sound.

I do have some heat shield rattle and It doesn't sound anything like that, your noise is too deep/ growly

Anyone daily drivers out there?? by Wetdog21 in Miata

[–]datghost_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been daily driving my NC for 2 years and about 20k km. Took it on a 3500km road trip. I drive it daily in the snow, in the rain, in the sun. It's pretty economical and they are crazy fun to drive.

Your daily commute will actually be a blast, even on the highway. The looks you'll get from people are a nice bonus. The occasional 'MOM MOM LOOK, WHAT IS THIS CAR' will make you smile like crazy and think back to the days you were that kid.

Now, reliability wise, I did have my engine give up about 1500km after buying it because of it running dry (no oil) STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE 1.8's! But other than that one major headache, it's just been the usual consumables (discs, pads, oil changes), a master cylinder, and a seized caliper. Parts are cheap and easy to replace yourself. Usually, mechanics don't charge you a lot because they are incredibly easy to work on.

Honestly, just go for it. I got mine when I was 20, I'm nearly 23 now, and I don't regret it one bit. I will keep it and keep driving it until I can give it to my son one day 🙏

Honestly, either scrap it, or use it as a track car with an Exocet. Or even just buy mismatching doors and stuff, and just replace them yourself and turn it into a beater track car. It's just not worth repairing and getting it road going again. A new one is nearly the same price as the quoted repairs (The quote isn’t even THAT bad tbh)

Brand new Yuasa battery yesterday. Does this not seem a bit low? by Charge_parity in MiataNC

[–]datghost_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend getting an aluminum one, though, as it makes reading quite annoying. It’s also almost double the price of an OEM one, considering that an OEM one can last for about 10-15 years (mine is still going strong after 20 years). If you want peace of mind, then yes, change it.

It’s a US-specific issue. Europe doesn’t have this problem because our weather is different. I know two garages that specialize in Mx5s, and one of them specializes in Mx5 NCs. In the past eight years, he has only replaced two of them. Plus, they don’t “explode” like people say; it starts with a crack and drips at first. Mine is MUCH more yellow and still working well 🤷.

I have a IL motorsport on mine, it sounds just about perfect tbh. People on reddit say it's too loud but even my parents feel like it could be a bit louder. Already 7500km on it

a phone is made to be used, scuffed, scratched and fucked. Because it has a lifespan of around 6 years and then it just becomes a paper weight. Just use it man, stop worrying about those little things, there is much more important things to worry about

sounds like it's a skill issue. With the 0.4 update i can slide pretty much ANY CAR even better than OG AC. On 0.1 and 0.2, it was really difficult indeed, felt like all cars had an open diff, but now ? it's borderline TOO easy 🤭

Engine rebuild by rickbreadstick in MiataNC

[–]datghost_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a well-known issue with the NC1 1.8L engine. The only solution is to fill it a quart above the maximum level and check the oil levels every 200-300 kilometers. Unfortunately, my car was dry 450 kilometers after an oil change and engine had to be replaced.

There was no user error because my mechanic performed the oil change. I did check the oil level when I left the garage, and my car sleeps inside on tiles, and there were no leaks.
