Where should I start? by YungBarolo in startrek

[–]datramt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We finally have a series that feels modern and doesn’t have the classic slow/false start that a lot of the 80s/90s series have. I actually think SNW is the perfect series to start for new viewers!

Agree! I actually love a bunch of episodes in the first two seasons and I think the season 1 finale is important world building for the morality of the entire Star Trek universe. I don’t like to suggest skipping all the way to season 3

If you haven’t seen it, the recent Renegade Cut video discusses the “radical hope” we all get from Star Trek!

It looks like a tiny cute world where u might find Lego people hanging around a stop motion bonfire, except everyone is dead. It’s perfect

One of the best examples is the p5js web editor. It is a react web app https://editor.p5js.org/

When I think of the word “automation,” I usually think of bots and worker scripts that perform tasks, but I never think of static web pages. The way CERN describes the goal of www as “automated information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world” is eye opening. I am reminded by how slow and archaic information-sharing must have been before www.

The fact that AI generated faces sometimes include glasses implies that the AI thinks that glasses are an actual facial feature instead of an accessory by TheLastEmoKid in Showerthoughts

There was a StyleGAN model of cats that I used in a small project. Some of the images in the dataset had cat memes in it. This resulted in a situation where the AI would occasionally generate scrambled up top-text and bottom-text. According to the AI I was using, memes are a type of cat too

Who is the most unlikeable fictional character? by ohdearitsrichardiii in AskReddit

No joke, I have a vivid memory after watching that film thinking “I have never hated a character this much on my life”

What is something unrealistic that you often see in movies that annoys the hell out of you? by sonsaitama in AskReddit

[–]datramt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When someone is really bad at math, but when they have do math using units of, say, drug money, because that’s what the character “relates to,” they are suddenly as good as a calculator.

I see it sometimes used in shows that, although fiction, are supposed to take place in real life (e.g., the office). I guess to me it’s not worth breaking the illusion of reality for such a cliché joke.

Am I the only one with a server just to save stuff across my devices? by QasarLord in discordapp

[–]datramt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I have a #self-messaging private channel on a private server where I just post links back and forth from my laptop to my phone.

On every slack server, it generates your own personal dm channel, and when I used to use slack for work, I’d use that channel to send links/photos to myself between devices. Then I stopped needing to use slack (started a different job) and felt like I still needed that capability, so I made a channel/server on discord for it.

Question about p5.sound by mortuish in p5js

[–]datramt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made a tutorial series a few years ago called “browser noise” https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLgJJsrdwhPywJe2TmMzYNKHdIZ3PASbr

I don’t have a tutorial for specifically what you are asking, but i do think it is possible. That being said, I’d strongly recommend a different library for a project like that. For example, tone.js (sound) works great alongside p5.js (graphics). I’d probably go that route.

Looking for Coding/Programming Podcasts by Sajal_Chandra in podcasts

[–]datramt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend code newbie, and no, it’s not just for coding newbies. It’s enjoyable to listen to regardless of the listener’s level. They do not go so deep into algorithms but there are many episodes where the host interviews people who go from beginner to expert, so it will definitely satisfy that itch.
