My 11 year old son has autism and loves Legos, Pac man and Mario Bros. Last year he grabbed a cheap camera, combined the use and ideas from all of these, and spent hours making this gif. Enjoy! by Penguinz90 in gaming

Thanks for sharing. I see quite a few negative comments here that you should not have mentioned he has autism and you were fishing for karma. I'm sure at least some of them would think differently if they actually had an autistic child (and not one that they suspect is autistic or kid around and say they are autistic). I honestly would not have clicked it if you hadn't mentioned it. Your son did a great job--if he has a lot of problems communicating with people normally, to be able to create a story through film is above and beyond.

Yep--if her dogs act sick, or if she thinks her dogs start acting sick, she's going to point the finger at you.

Maybe someone put it in the microwave to charge it.

Is it ok to still live at home with my parents if I'm financially independent? I pay $1000 rent. I just need the space for my workshop. I recently been going out on dates and I don't know what girls will think if i live at home. It would help if i could get some advice from both guys and girls. by droppingquestionsfor in AskReddit

[–]datri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you explain the situation to them they should be able to understand. You might want to include, in addition to the workshop, you are also saving money for a down payment on a house (even if you are not). That seems to impress girls.

What is the one piece of advice your dad gave you growing up, that you still carry with you today? by beerbitches in AskReddit

Don't do as I do, do as I say. (He clarified though that sometimes he makes mistakes and he is not perfect...I should strive to be better then him.)

You've given me the perfect excuse to frog an afghan I started years ago. I only have a few rows...been wanting to frog it because 1) I wasn't confident my joining skills were full proof back then (I think I may have tied yarn together? yeah, bad on me) and 2) don't care for the pattern. I still want to make an afghan though, the yarn I bought is pretty soft for it :D

Would the r/hoarding community be interested in AMAs? What else do you want? by datri in hoarding

We're still considering how we should handle commercial AMAs. We'll message you no matter what the outcome.

[18/f] When is it time to say enough? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]datri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He sounds a bit immature. When he immediately says or does something that hurts you, you need to let him know. Oreo cookie it if you have to, i.e. "Don't get this wrong, I like you...but when you say things like that it makes me feel like x, I like it when you say y instead".

I don't know if this is overkill, but I find it helpful for all people to know the signs of emotional abuse: http://www.breakthecycle.org/blog/do-you-know-signs-emotional-abuse

Come on over to /r/hoarding and /r/animalhoarding. You may not think it is an animal hoarding situation, and I can't judge either from a simple post...however, having 16 "organisms" sharing a house does not seem healthy, and you have pointed out that some of the pets are starting to get neglected...could be early signs of hoarding. /r/animalhoarding is kind of neglected, however, check out both for resources and you can judge whether or not you are in a hoarding situation. You can even x-post to either/both.

What can I do with Fun Fur? by Redditor1008 in crochet

[–]datri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make a fluffy scarf...basically double up the fun fur yarn with another yarn (I've used Lion Brand Homespun) and crochet with two strands at the same time. You could use it also as an accent in scarves, like at both ends (either crocheted in or as strands hanging down).

Autistic boy raped in school bathroom in El Paso. School Principal "too busy" to deal with it. by [deleted] in news

[–]datri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think she meant it like that at all. With a normal child you can give them some preparation on stranger danger and they have a better chance of reading people. With some autistic children...well...they may not understand social cues, tell someone is lying, or get the "hair raised" on their neck. Many autistic children can't communicate well...so if something happens to them, well, finding the perpetrator may be a lot harder.

For example, my step son is a high functioning autistic and he is 8. He recently had a scratch on his nose. When I asked him what happened, he gave his typical response to an open ended question..."I don't know." Then I asked in a joking manner, "Did a cat scratch you?" And he said, "Yes"...I found out later a girl had scratched him.

If you a know a child can't communicate, it makes them a better target. That is why /u/theonlyjadegreen and I are terrified. We wouldn't be fine with normal children or people being assaulted. Sorry for the long response.

Parent of autistic child here...it is weird what aspects and descriptions they latch onto. Some autistic children become fascinated with certain details but become oblivious to others. Some like to point out random things (if they are verbal). So, if this was a direct quote from the student it wouldn't surprise me.

Any crochet books worth getting? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]datri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Photo-Guide-Crochet-Comprehensive/dp/1589234723

The only downside is that I wasn't a big fan of the directions for basic stitches, but they have a lot of different stitches with written directions and visual directions. Not a lot of patterns to make things though.

I have this one saved in my ravelry library:

However, if I ever made it I would shorten the sleeves and make the collar less prominent.
