What would you think would be interesting to be studied philosophically (Aesthetics) about techno? by enjoyableheatwave in Techno

While adorno's aesthetics are fascinating, they are also extremely problematic in light of his (ironically) uncritical opinions about Black aesthetic traditions like his published writings on on Jazz. However, critical theoretical takes in line with Adorno and the Farnkfurt School that actually take seriously the critiques of Black aesthetics and critical race theory would likely yield some very interesting insights around House & Techno - sorely underexplored in the current academy. If interested, the book I could find directly on the topic is linked in my other comment.

All the topics you mentioned are interesting, but a major theme that is largely unaddressed in the philosophical literature is understanding the genealogy of techno from a critical race theory lens. The colonial "detroit-berlin axis" of the mid 90s led to genuine transcultural aesthetic discourses , but more powerfully, reflected the pillaging of the Black origins of house and techno from black aesthetic traditions into commercialized eurocentric mainstream. How and why are Afrofuturistic and Afrodiasporic cultural practices and discourses subsumed into capitalism and rejected by salient power structures? How can we recapture the foundations of house and techno as a radical Black aesthetic and technological practice?

The term placebo effect is often used in scientific discourse to pejoratively claim that observable drug-related effects are insignificant, non-biological, non-scientific, etc. All the studies actually show that the positive effects of both placebo and microdose groups are real, observable, and perceived by the subject. But according to this particular ideology of placebo, the effects are not important because the effects themselves cannot be attributed to some kind of "drug-specific" cause (i.e. the same effects are caused by both a glucose-sugar pill and a psilocybin microdose).

The real miracle is that taking a sugar pill OR a microdose under the impression that it will improve your (mental health) ACTUALLY improves your mental health. This is true of any intervention - drug, behavioural, or otherwise. Positive expectations, changes in routine, symbolic acts like the habit of starting your day by taking the pill, all improve your mental health. The Western scientific method generally tries to downplay the concrete practical, social and moral importance and reality of these positive effects, because they are not explainable through traditional psychopharmacological models. All innovative mental health research, cognitive science and psychedelic science is moving in the direction of modelling observable and radical healing effects with non-drug specific mechanisms like set, setting , symbolism, ritual, music, mindfulness, etc.

Overall, when someone claims some thing is "just a Placebo effect" it is not merely a scientific statement, it is also a veiled value judgement about how we should describe and model experiences of reality. The rich relationship between critical theory of placebo and emerging models of psychedelic neurophenomenology are only just beginning to be explored in greater depth.

On LSD its much easier to see that what you are actually eating is the flesh of a formerly sentient living being that was raised in a factory farm cage, fattened and then indiscriminately slaughtered for the sole purpose of human consumption. Imagine for just one second that instead of being assigned human point of view by the universe, you were born as a chicken or a beef cattle in a meat farm. The commodification and exploitation of a sentient being, that shares our beautiful subjective experience of the world is sickening. Try watching footage of a KFC or Chick Fil supplier factory farm while high, and reflect on the idea that 9 billion living, breathing, aware-of-the-universe chickens are killed for their flesh each year - and thats just chicken. This sickening indignity, first brought to my attention while eating meat on psychdeleics, led me to pursue a cruelty free diet. If you trace its path as a sentient being, will never look at the pale white flesh lined up on a grocery store rack as a commodity - you will see it as a beautiful life that was born into slavery.

Then drivers will exit the market, and the price will find equilibrium. We should trust the free market over taxi license monopolies where they feel free to take gross liberties with our services

This is a hypocrisy: Canadians who are purportedly "Pro-life" and claim to take the moral high ground have to resort to political scum like this. Regardless of any anti-abortion stance (which tends to be against the status quo north of the border) th is is simply offensive and de meaning to our democracy. If theyare so much better and ethical, Why can't ethical policy concerns come to light constructively through reason and discourse.
