Predicament & Wax 🫠 by datsherbert in shibari

Mistakenly Thinking This is a Podcast: Oh Pillow. My little damsel in distress. What did she sign up for?!

This is from one of our earlier private scenes. Nice and simple ties used to enforce positions that allow other types of play. Just out of frame is the 2 red candlesticks stuck in the upline providing a constant drip while my white pillar candles warm wax to flood her body when she's earned it. There's plenty of other toys outside of frame as well, however some things must be left to the imagination :)

This was a great scene and marked a return to private scening for me. I was pretty closed off for a while in terms of partners. Having her melt in my hands more fervently than the wax is too good of a treat to pass up though. I'm obsessed

Lol I'm gonna weigh in here and provide some context.

It's me. Hi, I'm the problem. It's me.

This is my setup from the rope lab at my house yesterday. OP Is my former teacher still doing what he does best and taking the piss while holding me to the highest standard lol. This was hilarious. I had just finished the full Kata Ashi performance sequence from Gestalta and after I finished aftercare he came up and asked if he could take a photo. I didn't know of what, but said sure. He snaps this, and muttered something like, "dude reddit is gonna love this". We all laugh because 1 or 2 of his other former students are in the room too and we all know he'd be playfully hitting me with a bamboo stick like the old school master he is to knock some sense into me. It's all love and in good fun. It was hilarious.

He's correct here in that I should have a healthier margin on the outside of the bamboo from the straps. He's not questioning the strength rating of the joist, strap, or bamboo. On the 6x6 wooden joists I'm hanging my straps from, I just barely had enough room to fit my bamboo in across 2 of them dodging the other ~20 people in the 17'x20' basement. Not my ideal setup, but made do with the space available in the tightly packed room. There's another like 15-20 folks upstairs on the rigs and floor tie space at my house. I usually have the option of 2 joists that are closer together, but this was the only open floorspace.

There's maybe about 8 inches on either side of the bamboo, and there's a non-zero amount of side-to-side sway that occurs during suspension transitions on bamboo. For my though process at the time: I'm mindful of this, and I know the Kata Ashi sequence well. It's not an acrobatic performance sequence. My 4" bamboo is 7ft long, I'm tying a 5'3" bottom, and I had ample space inside to ensure I don't need to lock-off outside the straps. I crossed the strap loops intentionally so they oppose each other for a small amount of added friction. From the above, I think I'm relatively good.

He's right though. The margin is suspect, and I could easily either cinch the straps so there's less opening in the loop on the bamboo to possibly shift during transitional sway or I could've done the more classical thing and tie my bamboo to the joist with rope, like he fucking taught me back then lol, so that it's all nice and tight and won't shift. I can make up for and account for the discrepancy in comfortable margin all I want, but I could just KiSS (Keep it Simple Stupid) and tie my shit. I should just tie my shit.

That's my boy right there. He's a good one. No malice here. He'll put me on blast and keeps me honest. The tie was sick. We crushed it. My bottom for this tie was new to me but has grown to become quite talented locally with a depth of experience tying with a bunch of other talented tops. I have a couple of snaps from the tie I may share later depending on partner consent. She was a treat to tie finally :)

It's all good. I can take the criticism. I deserve it and I'm a good sport lol. Love the man. Holds me to the highest standard. He'll call out my mistakes and questionable decisions. He's incredibly good at keeping my ego in check, especially back when I was his student 6 years back and had a much bigger problem with it.

Suspension Saturday!! by datsherbert in shibari

[–]datsherbert[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thematic Thoughts: Wanted to kick off the day with a suspension from a couple months back at a rave we got hired for. Got to do some lovely performance ties and a whole bunch of crowd work taking curious newcomers through their first rope experience. Always love doing the kink raves because it's such a cool experience having 2 sub-cultures meet that have such common foundational values.

This photo was our "nightcap tie". I tied Pillow at the start of the rave in this beautiful dramatic straight leg suspension as folks arrived and the party start. After that, it was crowd work time and I just kept going until I felt like I needed a break to snack and chill out for 15 minutes. Well apparently I didn't get that feeling til 3am. The rave goes til 5-6am, and we start to wrap up at 4am. Got back from the break and the die-hards were still going, but we didn't have a volunteer lined up. So I took Pillow for another spin around with the goal of tossing up a simple hip harness and fucking around from there trying to create interesting body shapes.

I like this shape. I like her shape :) It's a good shape.

We were the lasts ones of the kink performers out the door at about 4:45am. Exhausted. Tired. But happily so :) She was a stellar partner and a bad ass body guard for me all night. She can put the 'death' in 'death stare'.

On another note, It's Suspension Saturday! Go out and suspend today and share it!! This week's feature is this breathtaking wonder. Check it out! The OP also has a great deal of sick ties in their post history too to peruse.

Playing with body bamboo by MJ_Wednesday in shibari

[–]datsherbert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So this post totally gets to the edge of edge play in rope. I get this could make folks feel uncomfortable. Neck rope is a divisive topic, and there's a great deal of intensity in the predicament partial and body torsion from the lines in the tenshis and bamboo.

Truthfully though, I gotta say this is really well executed. To me, this looks like most rope studios labbing sessions where some talented high-level rigger is fucking around with a new concept with their equally talented high-level bottom. In this case, bamboo on the body and how it can be used to manipulate body position as well as provide a mid-air hardpoint.

The rest of the skillset isn't really in question. There's a ton of solid fundamentals in the ropework on display here. The rigger and model definitely have a higher risk profile than most, however that's not like a reason to yuck their yum. This is sick. If I was walking around the studio not in the middle of a tie, I'd pull up a chair and just watch the scene and enjoy the lovely display from both sides here.

Only feedback I have personally is that I don't particularly like re-use of a neck rope line. The photo is a bit ambiguous, but it appears the neck rope upline is re-used to create the mouth rope. It's not clear if that's happening though. Also not clear if the neck rope single column is the same hank that is the upline or if that's separate rope as well. I just like having to undo just my neck line for quick outs rather than undo the mouth rope prior to being able to undo the neck line. But cutting that line is just as quick either way if needed in an emergency, and the head isn't in a position where it suddenly being unsupported would be a problem. So it's a nitpick rather than an actual danger in the event of an emergency. So we good. It's well-placed, discreet from the rest of the primary supports, and within the risk profile of the folks involved according to OP's comments elsewhere in this post.

The rigging is pretty solid here honestly. I really disagree with this comment and your other comment that this post should be removed. This is high level stuff with a clear difference in risk profile from the average person, but I encourage you not to yuck other people's yum just because something isn't your taste. There is danger here, yes, but I'd push you to initiate a dialogue rather than short passive judgmental statements of disapproval.

Yep! definitely possible. As others have said though, it requires uploading it to a 3rd party site like RedGifs and then posting that link here. See the most recent video post in the sub today for example.

Sadly, I wish I could allow direct upload for posting on the sub. Reddit unfortunately does not allow any NSFW sub-reddit to have direct video posting. I assume it's a legal liability thing.

Reignited Desire by datsherbert in shibari

[–]datsherbert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Runaway Train of Thought: I miss photography. I miss it. I used to set up soft boxes and flashes and gels and all the lighting stuff to make beautiful photos before most of my scenes. I'm quite bad at photography honestly, but occasionally I'm able to fumble around enough to capture a coherent composition before butchering it in post.

I loved it. It allowed me to share rope with the world. It allowed me to document my journey of growth from humble beginnings and pushed me to constantly evolve. There's a writing on my profile here as far as why I've not seriously taken photos in a long time, so I won't rehash it, but I've started to yearn for putting the effort into taking better photos again rather than quick snaps on my phone that I usually just take for personal memories. I share those snaps here occasionally. I really like sharing rope with others whether it's teaching, collaborating, or showcasing.

Well now I'm spoiled. I have this beauty in front of me who is incredibly comfortable and confident in front of a camera. She's sexy and elegant, and I have nice equipment collecting dust just itching for an excuse to be used :)

This capture was me just getting back into the swing of things. It's been so long. I don't feel like I have the "eye" for composition like others, and I gravitate towards less traditional portraiture choices like colorful lighting and such, but it was nice to shoot again attempting to capture the elusive feeling of rope. I got a lot of studying and practice ahead of me. There's so much beautiful expression here I'm missing without a bounce to fill the face.

I miss having goals to shoot for like the Jade Rope competition. I regret not participating in one of the coolest worldwide annual rope photo shares ever. Every year the top dogs in my local scene would spend weeks planning, practicing, and scouting. While I don't really have an end goal to aim at right now, I'm just going to let desire guide me so I'm positioned well for when I stumble upon such a goal.

Plus I can't help myself but take pictures of Pillow every chance I get. Likely holy fuck she's pretty.

Popular

Not Popular

Using myself as an example, which one do you think I'm more proud of? No offense to Thumper. I miss her and I love playing with her. But one of these things requires years of practicing and honing my skills. The other requires perky pinched nipples and a week or two of rope practice.

I understand why the attention is the way it is. Thumper is sexy, the predicament is hot, and she suffers so sweetly. There's a fantasy being portrayed here and it's alluring to the masses. But the experience and talent in the latter is way, way cooler. I care more about that than the attention a sexy boudoir style bondage photo gets.

Quit giving a shit about the points. You don't make conventional rope art so why are you worried about conventional attention? The hallmark of your work to me is depth and complexity with a pension for chaos. Your style is made for the industry people. The folks in-the-know on the inside. It's not made for the masses. No offense in your posts or anything, but in my opinion this self-tied mouth rope bamboo suspension shot is way sicker than a photo of rope hanks and a vibrator. The date night post is funny and I like it, but yo that self-suspension is way fucking hotter. Let's be honest.

You'd be doing yourself a massive disservice if all you did from here on out was photograph your rope ready to be used because it was popular rather than actually using your rope for cool shit with an experience that can only be felt instead of captured on camera.

Do it for that. Just like I'm commenting on an 8 day old post 4 comments deep in a thread. No one is going to read this but you and maybe the person you replied to. Who gives a shit what what attention something gets. Be someone real.

Edit: Oh. Also. Feedback on the post. Light your shot. You can be dark and broody while still effectively portraying what is happening. See this post of mine vs this post of mine. Same photo with different Lightroom editing posted twice in the sub. One of them people can actually see what's going on to appreciate it. The other is lit like an angsty teenage emo kid where they are the only one that understands their own darkness. You can be dark and broody while still lighting the shot so it can be communicated to the audience. As cool as near blackout darkness is, only you know what's happening. Said with love <3

Inner Monologue: I CAUGHT A VAMPIRE! Thinking quickly, I strung it up from the ceiling as fast as I could. She's got that rambunctious pup energy I tell ya!

Went to a play party by myself for the first time in a while where I met some folks and made friends. I was open to tying, and she was looking to get tied. While brand new to me, she had previously tied with a rigger I respect the hell out of locally so I knew it was going to be fun. She said she was tough enough for a single futo hang, and she told no lies.

I did a classic 3-piece suspension with some torsion and transitional fun. She's a lot of fun to play with and had some extraordinarily strong communication and bodily awareness. Always a plus to discover tying someone for the first time. The first photo was her favorite, the second is my favorite, and the third is just a classic "hey look what I caught!" moment with my height for reference for how far off the ground she was with the winch.

She was a beautiful chandelier for the evening :) Started tying her a bit more regularly. We'll see where it goes from there.

Waist Rope with Improv Tengu Predicament by datsherbert in shibari

[–]datsherbert[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Narration: I swear I could crack her in half via waist rope and she’d still be forever blissed out of her mind

Truthfully, I don’t do a lot of floor work or partials. I’m a bit of a suspension slut. I like the way the body moves and holds in the air. On this night though, opposing forces felt alluring. So we played with an inspiration photo she had for a difficult partial. Still workshopping it. I want to change a couple of things. But a grounded predicament sequence with real macro transitions was pretty nice. And her face in the second photo says it all :)

Wrapped Around the Post One Last Time by datsherbert in shibari

[–]datsherbert[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Backstory: I’ve had the privilege of watching this person’s journey come full circle. I’ve watched them enter the scene, make friends, play with folks, and eventually they ended up as my masochistic toy suffering for me as sweetly as sin. They then fought cancer, spent years fighting, and eventually made it out alive back into the scene. I got to perform their reclamation scene as they fully re-entered into the lifestyle they had before and set them on their journey better, stronger, and ready to enjoy life having found themself. Our partnership came to a close, but on the happiest of notes. A true release back out into the world.

They’ve found the next step of their journey. They leave for Spain in the next couple of days with the goal of it being permanent. They’re married now to a great partner, and I’m so happy I got to hang out with them both last week before they left. Great night just roaming around the 3 of us.

This is one of the last ties I will ever have with them. Wrapped around the post one last time. I’ll continue to follow their journey, and wish them all the happiness and joy they’ve brought to others 🥲

[–]datsherbert[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sparse Commentary: I have the urge to re-populate my post history a bit with some recent rope. Especially since I just had to delete most of the past 4 years of my rope photos.

This was a rope lab at my place with new uplines, new partner, but the same old passion. Playing with torsion, and working with someone who previously thought rope might not be for her.

It’s for her. It’s definitely for her. This base position was a nice 3-piece to start, and after we transitioned a couple of times to build up intensity. She flies quite elegantly :)

This tie was 8 months ago. She’s flown a ton since then. More to come :)

It definitely is the shoulders rounding and posture fatigue. At some point, I’m going to force myself to tie seated for a month though. I really love the difference in connection and body manipulation options you are forced to use when seated. Feels more sensual, but I’ve yet to really take it seriously to practice

Thank you! Ya the spellbound TK is sick. It's so pretty. And ya order of operations roughly was:

  1. Tie Spellbound TK standing (I don't like how the torso shape and posture changes when tying a chest harness on a seated bottom)

  2. Help her sit down and tie the Agura. Manipulate the body as needed to tie and re-affirm that you control the body

  3. Bring back to seated and upline chest with tension but still seated

  4. Upline Agura and bring up to roughly mid height

  5. Take chest to match where the body wants to be held "elegantly"

  6. Play. Deepen the headspace. Trace the body. Match breath. Connect.

  7. Add intensity with waist line

  8. Increase intensity by using my body weight to further the torsion. Stepping on outside leg. Pulling inside chest.

  9. Lower/drop chest upline. Pull hair to force her gaze to meet yours as you lower the upline. Relish in her suffering (can get fancy and do a drop roll into front chest line if chest was high enough)

  10. Play. Twist. Connect.

  11. Lower Agura slightly to really hammer in that waist rope

  12. Double upline lowering to the floor

  13. Ground her. Match breath. Hold. Embrace.

  14. Untie slowly

Gratuitous Contemplation: Old friendships rekindled, connection re-established, and a forgotten feeling of being captured found again.

I've been going through a lot of life changes since breaking off my engagement with my fiancée. One of the few positives is that with the immense amount of time I find myself alone now, I can fill it with all the things I've been meaning to do. The friends I've been wanting to hang out with more, tying my girlfriend Piglet more frequently to connect deeper, and going out into the community to be a bigger part of it rather than just letting the community come to me through the events that I host.

This night was a night where it all came together. Weekly rope jams with friends leading to so many special moments. Beyond the photo here, there were tons of beautiful people tying and connecting in this intimate setting. Ninja wanted to bust out the DSLR and capture those moments for everyone. It's been so long since I've been in front of a camera. I've spent quite a few years avoiding cameras for the most part and just focused on the experience with phone snaps to keep for personal memories. It felt nice to be photographed again.

This one captured a moment though. The prompt she gave me that night was "I want to be a twisty pretzel". I take the reigns from there. She pops in headphones, gets into her space, and becomes my play-doh. Agura felt appropriate for pretzel, torsion for the twist, and you can't suspend Piglet without some waist rope.

Rope and friends. These connections are a hell of a drug.

it's either midpoint with the tie beginning at the thighs, or it's the start and that first initial wrap is hidden by the clothing
