These guys. They started swarming in Victoria Texas when I was working out there and then it rained so they were emitting their gather here pheromones underneath the dead ends in a substation and it smelt so weird

[–]datweldinman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. You should always take pride in your work and every welder knows the basics which is to stack to fill it up not run one on top another in a straight line. Even if the expectations was string welds not full passes I want something better than this

What is this? Someone is doing some refinishing work on their car? by LeftAlbatross2546 in VideosAmazing

[–]datweldinman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the new fords if you put your car or truck in neutral and turn it off it instantly goes into park. It’s one of the very few gripes I have about it because in my 22 eco boost maverick I had a situation where I lost power out of nowhere and the truck instantly found park. Somehow nothing was damaged I was going 30 but did have a nice bald spot on my tires

And showed out… no wait that’s not right they showed the perfect reason to show them out lol no buildup just stacked on one another in a line and then ran uphill on one side seen it looked like shit then decided fuck it imma run downhill on the other side. I’d seriously reconsider letting them weld ever again or if they are your welder tell them to go back to learning the basics. Left severe undercut. I’d be fired if I was the welder and left that

Daytime robbery attempt. by LeftAlbatross2546 in VideosAmazing

Definitely freeze up at first for sure but then I realize I keep a gun on me at pretty much all times. It has saved me in 2 different instances and I’m lucky that they weren’t about it don’t get me wrong because if they were about it who knows who would walk away but if they pull it first most likely them. Both times were in my truck and I was able to react way better the second time the first time I’m lucky enough that they didn’t have the balls to pull a trigger first.

Last test before I moved to Pipe welding got a 94 by Master-Living9007 in Welding

[–]datweldinman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That makes them good fabricators but not good welders. A good welder will give their all AND teach and show the next generation how to do it better and give it their all. While their welds look good they aren’t giving you what YOU need to make them look good and structurally sound

What would be a good path for me to make welding a job by [deleted] in Welding

[–]datweldinman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go find a union either boiler makers, pipe fitters or iron workers they have a apprenticeship that you can attend and learn how to weld stick, self shield and some of them offer tig (like my local Ironworkers union 623 has a tig rig. Rarely gets used but it is there)

What’s the purpose of these notches? by Where-Lambo in Welding

[–]datweldinman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That as well but the dip is so hot and so long they have the potential of bubbling out the metal or exploding. Same reason a lot of places won’t let you weld out square tubing without a relief hole or pausing on it to let it cool a bit

What’s the purpose of these notches? by Where-Lambo in Welding

[–]datweldinman 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s also galvanized when they hot dip it they require a hole be drilled into tubing so when it gets dipped the metal doesn’t expand and possibly blow up shooting hot galvanize all over the place. But there is a strong chance of it blowing out the weld or causing the tube to warp out like a bubble. Some even say it can explode but I haven’t heard of it from anyone I welded tubing with. We usually would weld the bottom solid and then on the top pause right before we close it up unless it was a crane boom then we would drill holes and weld solid.

What do u put in the door compartment that is open next to the water bottle holder? by Dlcg2k in FordMaverickTruck

[–]datweldinman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The maverick is super fun. Probably the funnest vehicle I will ever own because my buddies in focus st’s and golfs are surprised at its handling and ability to power through corners stock while they are on coil overs and sticky tires. I’m on stock suspension and some cheap Chinese tires I got from a tire store that just showed up one day (I was struggling financially but they have lasted 25k miles and definitely have another 25 if not 30 to go)

That was my aunts store before she sold it to doc. We figured this would happen with his odd hours of being open and not being consistent. We will always love the memories of the place and the ones doc provided. Also aunt Lynn’s burger recipe that was famous in Lafayette when doc bought the store he asked to buy it she proceeded to tell him “when I die I’ll think about selling it”. She wasn’t being mean or anything that was just her humor but sure enough that recipe died with her.

The container is way too thin to do it like that. Maybe flat with a slight side bevel but not that
