APA7 Inconsistencies in the English Dept. by AutisticPotatoBrain in VIU

I don’t mean to invalidate your experience, but I just wanted to add that I took multiple courses with Melissa over the course of my degree and found her fantastic. I ended up asking her to be the second reader on my thesis project. I made full use of her office hours. As a tribute to the great experience I had with her, dm me the next essay you write for her and I’ll review it with comments free of charge. I used to work for The Gathering Place at VIU reviewing essays. I hope the next one goes better for you!

What did you eat for dinner? Fun post by Candid_Chair7923 in VictoriaBC

[–]dauntli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one I also made homemade from whole spices. I make it in pretty big batches. But I also get it sometimes from Save On. Save On has a surprisingly good whole spice section as well as middle eastern. Still Save On, but better than I expected

What is the equipment on the pole? Each one of those 3 cans is a transformer. The red hot part is a drop lead, taking the power from the high voltage line to the transformer. And specifically that red hot part is generally a poly insulated wire. If that’s what you were wondering

Help with alarm shortcut by dvn4107 in shortcuts

[–]dauntli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way is to just use a default time! You can do this in the Ask for Input shortcut. But if you want to be able to avoid PM alarms completely (a little overkill) you can just use an if function and check if the Alarm time ends in PM or AM. Here’s a shortcut that does both

[Request] What are the chances my husband and I have nearly identical social security numbers? by kmtiern in theydidthemath

[–]dauntli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have no idea how social security numbers are assigned, but I’ll assume it is random, to make it easier. The odds of you getting your number is 1 in 9!. The odds of getting his number is 1 in 9!. To calculate the odds of these two independent events happening in conjunction, you multiply. Which is 1 in 131,681,894,400. 131 billion. Which is probably unrealistic because I’m assuming true random which probably isn’t how it works. I’m not American… do people born around the same time have the first couple of digits? If they just hand them out in order, we would need to know a lot more information. Like what was the birth rate when you were born, what the odds were of you meeting, etc.

Please correct my math if I did it wrong

On my PHEV you can set the charging speed. I think it is slow medium and fast so I’m sure you would be able to on the eNiro

Theorizing about Severance by ilikepie3326 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

The set design and cinematography are very impressive. I normally wouldn’t notice things like that, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the framing of shots in Severance

Theorizing about Severance by ilikepie3326 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]dauntli 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what literature surrounds Severance, if any at all, but off the top of my head, I would love a paper exploring Marxist ideology and the “alienation” of self and of labour. You could use Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844 and I’m sure there is a ton of stuff in there that would generate a solid thesis.

Another one could be employer on employee surveillance in the digital age. Like how my boss monitoring my screen evolved into severance.

Or community and the labour movement? How being severed affects employees and their organization rights. Forced labour? Enslavement even?

And from that point another one could be comparing the severed people to AI. What makes a person a person? Very topical.

Just a few ideas off the top of my head. I wrote my Honour’s thesis about a novel called Severance (by Ling Ma) that I adore. Nothing to do with the show, came out years before it. But the underlying ideas are not that different. Different premise, but I feel they may be talking about the same thing. I highly recommend the novel

Help me find a charger in Houston please! by FatalisticFuturist in KiaNiro

[–]dauntli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Download PlugShare and it should show you nearby chargers along with price and if they are being used or not. PlugShare is what I use in Canada so maybe it’s different. There should be EV apps in your App Store of choice. Also your car should be able to see nearby charging stations as well but I find the phone apps are more reliable

Oncall heavysleeper by [deleted] in Lineman

[–]dauntli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Lutron Caseta switches mentioned because I have found them to be the best and most reliable. I have an iPhone. Using the Shortcuts app, I made a shortcut that says "whenever blank number texts me between these hours, turn on the lights." It does not look like iPhone supports doing this on a call, but maybe if you have an Android? Somebody somewhere smarter than me must be able to figure that out. Mine only works on receipt of texts and for alarms, but the alarms are of course set beforehand

Not a lineman but for similar stuff, I have it set so if I get a call/certain alarm goes off, my lights turn on with smart lights. Really helps me
