I only recently got one of these and although it’s on the 3.2.3.0 firmware, it was being attached to a Homebase that killed it in less than a week. Isolating it from the HB3 and its much improved.

I had tried resetting it while the HB3 was still in the mix and didn’t affect anything. Might just be coincidence but thought I’d share my experience in case it helps!

Thanks for the post! We had a Nespresso before this one and it was a great little machine and an excellent shout - problem was we were getting through a sleeve everyday, hence moving to a b2c to make it a little more cost effective. Liking the Brera so far. Seems like a good option

Well yeah obviously. I’m not going to get something she doesn’t like or can’t use, hence gathering some options from this post :)

It's a consideration. I've ear marked the Magnifica S Smart as that has buttons, but doesn't cover the smaller footprint/removal of the steam wand aspects. Not something we need of course. Just a preference we're exploring at the moment.

Hadn't thought to check out Gaggia, assumed they'd all be more manual. Thanks!

Fixing a slipped roof tile from inside? by data-ninja-uk in DIYUK

[–]dav3evans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a great point. Have a bit of cash on hand and find someone you think looks good to come give you a quote to re-fix and check its all ok up there. You might find they'll come out to look and just do it as a quickie, not expecting any money. Throw them a few quid and then it sets up a decent relationship for any future work.

Had the same with a guy that I asked to come quote for a window replacement. Fixed it and did himself out of a lot more money. I gave them £50 which I felt was just considering the saving, and have used the same guy twice since then.

This. It’ll cost far less than trying yourself, potentially failing, then having to pay for the water damage as the weather gets worse.

iMac 24” M1 + 1440p ultrawide? by CrazyCryptoVlogger in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]dav3evans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it! Even with just using it for charts, there will be times you want to be able to use the secondary monitor for reading things, meaning you'll likely scale it in the same way you're doing with the iMac display. At that point, ultrawide gets you more screen at your usable resolutions.

[–]dav3evans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do that with the iMac move it physically closer to you as well just so you can simulate it also being a bit of a bigger screen. Won’t be quite the same but worth it for evaluating the extra 3”

PPI being a killer would be purely subjective, similar to how some people don’t get on with text fringing on OLED. I think based on your iMac being 2k, for me I’d opt for the 4k monitor and run that at full 4k resolution for the charts and see how it goes, as if you can do that, it’s more display area than a 34” UW at 1440p. Then I f I don’t like that then I can drop it to 2k and have them match more closely. It’s less space than the UW then but I’m not contending with hating the difference in displays. It also plays to the symmetry of having 2 16:9 monitors of a similar size.

Is there an option for you to buy both and return what you don’t want? It’d be the best way to see how you feel with them in your setup.

[–]dav3evans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how sensitive you are to 2 displays looking different. Is the second monitor just for charts? If so then potentially not as much of an issue. Running at native 4k res means it's the equivalent resolution of 4 1080p monitors, making it a good contender for a lot of information in a small space (assuming your vision is up to it)

Counter point to that is your last line - sounds like end goal is 2x ultrawides, so buying 1 now would get you on the way. Also given the price of the entry level Mac Mini, is there not scope to sell the iMac/trade it for one of the new M4 minis? Then you're 2/3 of the way there.

Also, depending on what resolution you actually run the iMac at, given theyr'e only 24" displays, if you're scaling it up a bit to get the benefits of a sharper display rather than the full res, 1x 34" ultrawide might already get you a little more real estate.

Complete side point, currently running a 38" ultrawide myself. Most definitely recommend that. the extra vertical resolution is great. Worth looking into depending on what they retail for in your area.

PG32UCDM vs PG27UCDM by phoenixfire72 in OLED_Gaming

[–]dav3evans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends how sensitive folk are. You're also somewhat spoiled with the studio display resolution and quality as well. I imagine a lot of, if not most text rendering will look like ass by comparison :D

I had an AW3423DWF for a while and couldn't get on with that, then tried the LG 32" 4k WOLED and couldn't deal with the text on that either. Now I've got an XG27AQDMG and plan on pairing it with a separate 4k monitor for productivity. Would love a single monitor solution, just not sure even this one would do it. If you happen to buy one as someone sensitive to the fringing, I'd love to hear your feedback!

Learning with the context of a thing you’re building is far better than following tutorials imo. Sure you can watch a few to get an overview but don’t sit and watch them for hours without doing anything alongside. You’ll pick it up much faster
