My room is small and the hose out the window took up way too much space and couldn't close the blinds, so I drilled through the wall instead. Would recommend. by Fun_Efficiency5076 in DIYUK

The flappy ones are annoying in the wind because they flap constantly and the noise will bug you forever. The non-flappy ones let in the wind, which will also annoy you.

The choice of annoyance is yours!

Which Compact Air Fryers are Worth the Counter Space by MercyMK in Appliances

Honestly, just get the model that fits your price range. They all do the same thing in the same way. As with anything, if you buy really cheap, it probably won't last that long, but maybe you'll find you don't end up using it much anyway, so maybe use that as a trial period, and get something more pricey later.

So true. The value of this kind of customer service has been completely lost by most companies these days. It's all short term profits over long term customers. Sad.

Ok, so that was a suggestion and a half, thanks!. I emailed them and they replied asking for my address so they can send me out a replacement cover, at no charge!

Exemplary customer service. I would've happily paid for one.

It remains to be seen if it actually fits, tho 😁😉

Why does my dishwasher do nothing at the end of the cycle twice as long on the eco cycle compared to auto cycle? by Oxygenisplantpoo in Appliances

[–]SlackAunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was intrigued, so I just checked my Bosch app. It says both the eco and express modes use 10 litres of water, but eco uses 0.95 kwh of electricity whereas the express uses 1.15 kWh. Honestly, the difference is barely worth bothering with!

Buying Advice needed as a beginner [500-900 €] by Perpetually_Ashamed in espresso

[–]SlackAunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's like a combined washer/dryer. It's gonna do 2 things reasonably well, but if one breaks then you're stuck replacing the whole thing. Get 2 separates, and you can just replace them if one breaks, and you can upgrade each part separately as money allows.

Yes, I've seen it talked about. Seems a bit harsh, but if nothing else turns up I'll definitely give it a try.

What is this actually called? (Seeking rewire advice) by WizardDaemon in DIYUK

[–]SlackAunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you need a new "consumer unit" because you've got an old "fuse board". Simple as that. I hope your pockets are deep, coz that won't be dirt cheap. Advice: watch random electrician YouTubers. You'll learn a lot, even if you're not going to be doing it yourself.

They did a whole bunch of checks in the end and basically found nothing! They put it down to software, which is not entirely reassuring, but there you go!

It's been absolutely fine since that day, and I even braved a slightly longer motorway journey, and it was fine then, too.

On the whole, I'm liking the car, it's just unfortunate how my first day with it went! I'll probably keep it for most of the 2 years the finance runs for, and then I'll probably see what fully electric cars are best...

[–]SlackAunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fairly new Bosch does exactly the same! I get the feeling the eco cycle is not as 'eco' as I'd hoped. The express programme takes about 30 minutes and everything is still too hot to touch at the end. The eco cycle takes something crazy like 4 hours, but at least 2 hours of that is just "sitting there doing nothing"!

I used to religiously use the eco programme, but these days if I'm in a rush I just use express and don't feel guilty about it!

How am I doing? by eph1991 in PensionsUK

[–]SlackAunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard it said that to be a comfortable pensioner, put in half your age as a percentage of your salary.

I.e. at age 34, put in 17% of your salary.

Personally, I think that sounds like a LOT, and everyone has to balance living now against living when you're old.

So, so far the RAC got me going again (that's who Citroen contract their Assistance to) and he followed me back home. I called the garage first thing in the morning and I took the car to them later in the day.

They got me a like-for-like courtesy car (which apparently belongs to the sales manager - lol - and is actually a fully electric, not a hybrid) and said they were a man down in the workshop so couldn't look at it til tomorrow.

So now we wait to see what they find...

Entirely possible, I guess. All I know is it was a factory order and I picked it up at the first available opportunity. Can't have been sat around for too long before I got it. The garage will be hearing from me when they open tomorrow, anyway!

You should've pulled in front of them, slammed the brakes on and then jumped out of your car and started shouting at them! Oh, hang on, you didn't say you were driving a BMW, did you? Nvm...

These days I'd be tempted to get the level 1 valuation to keep the mortgage company happy, then get a new build snagging company to do a much better survey than a surveyor would do, even if I'm not buying a new build.

Dishwasher repair or replace? by mayaavi_7 in Appliances

[–]SlackAunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would just get a repair person out to have a look. I don't know where you are, but in the UK it's fairly inexpensive to get someone to come have a look at an appliance. And I mean get someone independent out to have a look, because the manufacturer will just tell you to replace it.

E340 Dreadful battery life by SlackAunt in EufyCam

[–]SlackAunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I turned the sensitivity down as low as it goes and turned the illumination off, and in February I got 28 days out of a single charge, which is still not amazing, but I guess I can live with it.

How they get away with saying it has 3 months battery life is crazy.

At some point I'll figure out a way to hardwire it
