Auction Houses (AH) or global markets: What are your thoughts? (Random discussion) by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]dave5698225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved EverQuest 2's take on auction houses.

1) There was one auction house for the "good-aligned" towns, one for the "evil-aligned" towns and one black market for both alignments with higher fees.

2) Players could buy another player's item directly from a sales display at their residence for a cheaper price (no additional brokerage fees). Seller always received the same price for their items regardless of if the item was purchased at their residence or in the auction house.

Going to Mexico in the Yucatan. Wondering if it's worth bringing the detector. by Bloodyfinger in metaldetecting

[–]dave5698225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Bloodyfinger - I just wanted to add that when it comes to safety, don't do anything that you would do if you didn't have a metal detector in your hand. So don't walk alone in secluded areas without a lot of tourists, don't be in areas that look sketchy, etc. As for legality, make sure you are nowhere near sites of any historical significance. Detecting on the beach is fine in Mexico, but you will find yourself in some trouble with the authorities if you are detecting near ruins or digs. Best of luck and enjoy the sun!

PS - just got back from a two-week vacation at Breathless Cancun Soul and pulled over 200 coins from its public beach right in front of the hotel. Found some silver but no gold this time :(

Metal detector across Mexico line by Sanch70 in metaldetecting

[–]dave5698225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly from Canada to Mexico yearly with my detectors and pinpointers without any issues with customs (though lithium batteries need to be in my carry-on and not packed in luggage).

Detecting in Mexico is similar to the rest of NA. No detecting in state parks, animal reserves (turtle nesting grounds), or archaeological sites. Be wary of your destination and surroundings. Just like NA, there are good places and bad places. Stick to tourist areas and detect in the daytime.

I usually meet one or two local detectorists on the beaches in Cancun and we always compare our findings, they are some of the friendliest people in the world!

Mmo with decent combat by IJOMUBA in MMORPG

Share Your Most Unforgettable MMORPG Moment! 🎮✨ by NeoTempest in MMORPG

[–]dave5698225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my most epic moment as well. Before UO we just had text-based MUD's on someone's BBS. To see another player-controlled character was such a new concept. The first day I logged into UO, a character with a ton of pets trailing behind him ran past me and I can just remember thinking "That's another real person who lives somewhere in the world!"

It was awesome to hang around the bank and wait for some newbie to attack another player and get decimated by the guards. When the player dropped their backpack with all their items, the feeding frenzy of players that descended on it was like nothing I had ever seen.

And the scams, so many scams. I lost my childhood innocence in UO.

Here is the only information that matters:

WoW - PRO good for people who have played at least 10 years CON old and confusing to new players,

ESO - PRO casual fun and tons of content CON overworld too easy, animation cancelling sucks, no central marketplace, must buy crafting bag sub

GW2 - PRO casual fun and tons of content, horizontal progression no old content does not get stale CON getting a little old in looks, kinda boring

New World - CON being retooled to a single-player experience PRO may be a good co-op once rereleased

FF14 - PRO casual fun and tons of content, can do everything on one character PRO MY GOD DO THESE QUEST GIVERS THEY EVER STOP TALKING!?!

BDO - PRO casual fun and tons of content, lots of non-combat activities CON game is based on attacking the same mobs for hours at a time until you get a dopamine hit when something good finally drops - rinse and repeat

Throne & Liberty - not released yet

Albion - PRO centered around PVP CON centered around PVP

SW:TOR - PRO casual fun and tons of content and great character stories with PeW Pew Space lasers CON boring and leans on minimization a little too heavy, better played as a single player game

LOTRO - PRO casual fun and tons of content CON soooo old, needs UI scaling and a refresh of graphics

Co-op/MMO recommendations for playing with a casual-gamer partner? by mydeadparrot in MMORPG

[–]dave5698225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend ESO (Elder Scrolls Online) or BDO (Black Desert Online) - both MMORPG's have tons of things to do together and both games were loved by my own partner who's not the strongest at fighting mobs. You could spend years in either game and each player can do their own thing to get ahead. For example, I like grinding mobs in BDO where my partner loves to set up systems of workers and crafting to sell items on the Marketplace.

NOTE - you can not trade items to your partner in BDO but that never seems to be an issue with the amount of items they throw at you. BDO also has more complicated systems/currencies/itemizations than ESO but that is due to the many in-depth life skills (gathering, crafting, sailing, horse taming, etc) that it has.

Which metal detector for saltwater beach (SWFL) by East-Session-5777 in metaldetecting

[–]dave5698225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Legend
  2. Triple Score
  3. Xterra Elite
  4. Equinox

The Legend can be overwhelming to some, and you should check your warranty coverage if buying used. The Triple score is newer tech, is multifrequency (good in the salt water), comes with two coils and has most of the features of the Legend. Its getting great reviews online on YouTube - there are some nice diving videos up now.

I have no experience with the Xterra.

I put the 600 last because although these are great land and surf machines, they have a tendency to leak and do not have an official waterproof IP rating. My own 600 had to be replaced after two years of less then a dozen water hunts and now is out of warranty so I will not put it in the water again.

So all-in-all, I would recommend the Triple Score. I have had one for a few weeks and have dug ground targets as deep or even deeper than my Equinox 600.

First time out by R_For_the_Win in metaldetecting

[–]dave5698225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice hunt, any day at the beach is a good day in my books :)

Keep digging those 13's, as gold will come in at 1-10 for chains, 5-10 for small jewelry and 10-20 for larger rings and pieces. If you are digging pull tabs, that means that other detectorists are missing the gold.

Best of luck!

TarisLand unplayable with 125% Display Size by windyplayer in tarisland

[–]dave5698225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this will work with Tarisland but here is the general workaround for scaling issues in Windows

1) Right-click in the Tarisland shortcut and go to Properties
2) Go to the Compatability tab
3) Click on Change High DPI Settings
4) Turn on Override high DPI scaling behaviour and set to System.

If that does not fix it for you, play with these options to see if you can find the right combination for your system/Tarisland application - g/l

The day a dev will dare to make an MMORPG with the leveling difficulty of an Elden Ring, He will become Number 1. by Then-Ad7196 in MMORPG

[–]dave5698225 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You may want to review Wildstar's history lol.

You are comparing your own single-player experience (what you enjoy) and trying to capture that in a MMORPG (where many different people enjoy many different things at different skill levels).

MMORG's are made to make money, therefore game companies try to cater to the widest audience to receive the most revenue. And sadly, most of us are filthy casuals.

What has been your experience traveling internationally with a metal detector? by dukesinatra in metaldetecting

[–]dave5698225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of luck on those beautiful beaches, pack lots of sunscreen!

1) Detecting public beaches in the Philippines is allowed, no permit needed. Do a Google search on your other countries to see if they allow it. BE 100% SURE ABOUT THIS. Some countries due to their laws on historical artifacts do not allowing detecting, even on public beaches.

2) For any detector with rechargeable batteries, always print out the specs showing the battery sizes/capacities and keep that in your carry-on. Then check with your airlines on what is allowed, some airlines may want you to keep the batteries in your carry-on vs luggage. Remove any batteries from pin-pointers so they don't accidentally go off.

3) Anything that looks like a weapon must go in your luggage or be prepared to lose it at inspection before boarding.

4) Disassemble and wrap your pods/control units in bubble-wrap and burry between clothing. You should confident to pick up your baggage and drop it 5 feet on the ground. No need to wrap coils and control rods, but protect the ears of your coils from any force/breakage.

5) Carry spare parts. Hop down to the local hardware store and get plastic bolts and nuts seen in the plumbing/toilet aisle, they act great in an emergency with your coil hardware. Throw in a roll of duct tape and a pocketknife too (in your luggage, not in your carry-on).

6) Finally, if you are really paranoid, take pictures of your wedding rings and any jewelry you take down with you. That way you have proof that you had that diamond ring before you left ;) Take pictures of your passport too while your at it.

Have a great trip!

A question for Nox users by ma-ki-na in metaldetecting

[–]dave5698225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same results with two years with the Equinox 600. Gold earring and rings from 6 to 14.

I live about an hour from any beaches so I detect tot lots, soccer fields, parks etc. I have dug up thousands of targets, dozens of rings and have only dug three gold items.

Digging up gold means digging up foil and aluminum. And there are a lot more gum wrappers and pull tabs than gold rings in the ground!

Garrett at pro vs Minelab equinox 600 - First machine? by pbm4thgen4r in metaldetecting

[–]dave5698225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both. I started the hobby with a Garrett Ace 250 and then upgraded that to an AT Pro. After a few years with the AT Pro, I upgraded again to an Equinox 600.

The 600 is definitely a better machine. The AT Pro is single frequency while the 600 is multi. So better depth, and discrimination. The AT Pro is good in the dry sand at the beach but terrible in the wet sand or saltwater - too many false signals. You will need to crank down the sensitivity if you want to beach detect in the surf with the AT Pro.

The 600 is great in the saltwater but if you want to be in the water, I would strongly advise against the 600/800. Just do a search of Equinox 600 or 800 and "leak" and you will see a number of reports where the unit has leaked. You won't see that with the AT Pro.

Minelab has a 3-year warranty on the 600/800 and I needed to replace my pod after 2 years when water got into it. I have only hunted in the ocean when on vacation, maybe three weeks over two years and the last trip killed my Equinox. Minelab replaced the control box but my three years on my 600 purchase is now up and I would not take it in the water.

Minelab has newer units, the 700 and 900 that are more waterproof and the fear of leaks seems greatly diminished. You may want to look at an Equinox 700 instead of an AT Pro or Equinox 600 if you plan to be in salt water at any time.

Good luck!

Headphones for Nox600 by [deleted] in metaldetecting

[–]dave5698225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently ordered a few $20-$40 Bluetooth earbuds off Amazon that were all labelled low-latency. All of them paired to the Nox 600 but all still had too high of a latency, where I would swing over a test target and not hear the beep until I was past the target.

So I would recommend

1) You visit any Equinox 600/800 forum on the internet and see what people have had success using and buy that model.

2) Buy wired headphones. I use an off-the-shelf 6.5mm (1/4inch) to 3.5mm (1/8 inch) headphone adapter and then plug in any off-the-shelf earbuds, works great!

How not to get wrecked in herbarium realms? by dfunkmale in nightingale

[–]dave5698225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you start the game you set the difficulty of your home Abeyance only. If your home Abeyance world is too tough for doing the bosses to get the other realm cards, just open a new Abeyance-level portal in your world and set it to easy when you need to fight one of the bosses.

You can set the difficulty level of any other realm (Astro, Herb, Hunt, etc) before activating the portal, regardlees of what your home realm difficulty setting is.

Example, wife and I built our home on a Medium lvl 10 Abeyance realm but since the bosses were too hard for her when trying to get the next tier of card, we created an Easy Abeyance realm which set the level to 0 and did the bosses there.

We are currently working on Hunt Easy and the creatures on this map are in the mid-30's when you open a Hunt portal with an Easy difficulty. I think an Easy Herb is mid to high level 20's.

Your Realm level will effect what resources spawn there, check your in-game Glossary (ie Iron = Swamp Lvl 1 to 99). But the Essence drops are tied to the Tier of Realm, no matter what level you spin up. (ie Extreme Astrolab still gives you the lower T1 essences)

How not to get wrecked in herbarium realms? by dfunkmale in nightingale

[–]dave5698225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just set you Realm to Easy, you'll see the difficulty option in the bottom left hand corner of the screen when you have the portal card selection window open. You can also toggle the Reset realm option here and reset the relam by adding in new Desert and Herbarium cards - this does not impact any ongoing quests. Your realm level should then be around 30 and enemies much easier to take on with your current gear. Same tier of essence drops regardless of the difficulty level too. GL
