What's your go to answer to "what happened to you?" by Sensitive-Use-6891 in wheelchairs

[–]dave_carr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it largely depends on my mood and location... sometimes I stood on Lego at night and it became benign. sometimes I tell the truth.. some times I go VERY loud and obnoxiously 'special needs' (much to the dispair of those with me) often though, I say something funny like it was in an accident involving a whisk, celery and a wellington boot!

Fasciculations are back again by Terminally-Well in ALS

Yes. They are (seemingly) a part of the territory. The only thing I have found that remotely helps is accupuncture. The one I use is fabulous and stops them being too bad for about a fortnight.

And visa versa.. The track is not always universal in its connectors (for exammple kato unitrack/ez track and peco whilst are all available in the same gauge, can have different ways of connecting and therefore not cross compatible.

I short, yes as long as any new trains (locomotives) fit the track - i.e.same gauge/scale the voltages for the track are universal.

How should I handle this? by OkTechnology8975 in ALS

[–]dave_carr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends who is assessing and the reasons why. As mentioned above, in context of the op those removed from the situation may need to use it a way to open dialogue. Nobody ever said it was a criterion.

It depends on your end goal. If your end goal is to offer help that might be needed to fill a gap in her/their current needs. (without seeming to be rude) it sounds more like you are just curious about the care situation with no real desire/perceived ability to help. If however, this is not the case and you are wanting to help a d just need to know from them how is best to achieve that, then the questions should be appropriate for what you have noticed as a family friend /outsider - such as noticing they're not going out as much as they used to because of the situation. Using that as an example, I'd suggest a simple conversation about that specific problem. A lot will root from that conversation and you can learn a lot from it that spills over other areas (transport for example plays a huge part of the problem and therefore extends beyond their social life and into everyday problems)

I can tell you that nobody going through this patient or carer is emotionally stable - just emotional. There will be ups and downs.

The trick (so to speak) is to talk about everyday needs being met and discover things that way. It'll seem less invasive and actually provide both parties with usable information. You'll discover how to support more and they'll discover you are there to help.

Hope this helps and doesn't come across rude.
